Reserved two rooms for 4 of us fours months prior to arrival. Requested PREMIUM RIVER VIEW rooms for both, along with early check-in (before 12:00 noon) and a request for adjoining rooms. Arrived at 11:30 am not expecting our rooms to be ready, which they were not. The guy at the front desk suggests I complete the check-in procedure and they will text me when my room is ready. Perfect! Signed smoking waivers for rooms 2331 and 2329, which I assume are next door to each other and hoping they're adjoining. We decide to walk the Merchandise Mart & town while waiting. About 2.5 hours goes by (now 2:00 pm) and one girl doesn't feel well, so goes back to the hotel to check if the room is ready. They are! Great! They have her sign the smoking waiver for room 2348 and escort her up since their key card system cannot create key cards. (They'll bring her one when capable) Then I got my text message that our rooms are ready at 4:30 pm! Nice. Over two hours after the rooms were actually ready. We head to the hotel and now realize one room faces south, and the other faces west. Not even close to each other, and one room is much larger than the other having a couch and larger sitting area. Ugh! Probably not getting what we're paying for. Beds were new, but not comfy at all. Water pressure is terrible in the shower. Store downstairs is ridiculously priced asking $4 for a 99 cent bag of chips. Restaurant on lobby level never had a soul in it! No hot tub available - only a pool and sauna. CityScape bar had great views, and an awesome staff. Porters/Bag handlers at the entrance were friendly and fun! I realize I was only requesting adjoining rooms, and early check-in and that it's not guaranteed, but to pre-check in to two rooms, and be sent to a different, smaller room, and get a the text notification that they're ready 2 hours after they actually were upset me. Then when I called down to inquire about it, they said I signed for the two rooms we received, which was an absolute lie! I really liked this location, but felt taken advantage of. They mentioned the hotel was filled to capacity, but I went online and attempted to book another two rooms with no problem at all. Overpriced, staff was not helpful with my concerns. Collapse

Stayed her for 2 nights for Veterans Day weekend. I was not only acknowledged as a spire member but personally thanked for being a spire member, I really appreciate that from the gentleman that checked me in. Wish I remembered his name. But he checked me in Thursday night and he was an African America male with a short full beard. I was also upgraded to a Jr suite that had amazing views of the Chicago river and the skyline. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious and clean. Location was good too. Everywhere we went was less than $10 by Uber. I’ll definitely stay here again, I loved everything about my stay. Oh definitely grab a drink in the cityscape bar, has awesome views and good service. And it wasn’t really crowded. Collapse

As professorial lecturer of a judicial academy, I stay in hotels for a fairly amount of time every year for conferences, trainings, and meetings. As an Asian, I am used to Asians’ quality and luxurious hotel guests service that one could receive even from a three or four-star hotel. We arrived at past 11PM. It took a while for bell service to come down to the lobby and help us with our suitcases to the 15th floor where the check-in counter is located. At the check-in counter, the front desk staff flatly told us “I found your name in the system, but your room reservation had been cancelled.” We explained that our four rooms had been fully paid for a five-day stay. She answered, “you talk to the reservations, but we are fully booked tonight.” We asked her if she could recommend a suitable hotel where we could stay while trying to figure out why our already paid-for room reservation was cancelled. “I’m sorry, I cannot help you.” When you flew in from across the world, the last thing one needs is an unsympathetic, deadpan-expression response. This is something that one will never experience in any hotel in Asia. Eventually, we figured out that all room reservations were all put under the delegation head’s name. She gave us our room assignments and key cards, but did not offer any apology for the almost-heart attack moment she gave us all. Because it took us a long time to check in, room service was already closed and we all missed dinner on our first night in Chicago. The rooms are fairly okay. The beds are excellent. The pillows are soft and fluffy. The towels are absorbent. The bathroom has basic toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and bath soap. Toothbrush, toothpaste, and shaving kit are on upon request basis. The room has no lint remover brush which is essential for anyone traveling with business suits for meetings. There are also no cotton balls, cotton buds, and bedroom slippers. A certain Gwendolyn at front desk, however, redeemed our first impression of this hotel. Unlike the first front desk person who attended to us, Gwendolyn was very accommodating yet not patronizing. She was very patient and helpful. Thus, I give her my five-star vote. This hotel is very accessible to Michigan St. It is also walking distance to Wacker where the first stop of the Big Bus (hop on, hop off bus tour) is located. Collapse
