Spent a night there visiting Cardiff. Impressed from the moment we stepped in. Stunning Christmas decorations and music. Very quick and effective check in. They had an event running so we were a bit concerned about the noise but before I even mentioned it, the lovely receptionist made it clear we would be staying in a quiet area of the hotel and so it was. Never heard a sound. We all slept really well. We also celebrated my husbands birthday and the hotel arranged the room with a little Happy Birthday banner and a small cake. Very kind again and much appreciated. Breakfast varied and tasty. One little downside was spiderwebs in the room on the ceiling and a spider we woke up to next to the bed and also dust on phone and lamps. But that is me being picky really since I am OCD with cleaning. We have stayed at quite a few Holiday inns before and had some unpleasant experiences but this one beats them all by far. And the reception staff definetelly deserve a little cake each for being so lovely and helpful. Collapse

I was the person who in July this year gave this hotel's restaurant a terrible review. We decided to give this hotel a 2nd chance last weekend. We booked a table in the restaurant for the Friday night (17th Nov). What a difference! The food & service was excellent..much improved from our last visit. We also ate in the restaurant on the Saturday night(18th Nov) & again the service & food were very good. As before we found the hotel staff friendly & courteous & the hotel facilities/room etc.of a good standard. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel & frequent buses into the city centre.Very handy. Cardiff a lovely city to explore. Collapse

Just returned from Cardiff after a weekend of celebrations surrounding my sons 21st birthday (he's at University there). Stayed at the Holiday Inn J4/M4 and certainly no major complaints from us. The room was very clean albeit there was a musty smell which we quickly solved by opening the windows. Beds were very comfortable and although there was a wedding party going on downstairs we still slept very well. We opted not to try the pool or any of the catering facilities so can't really comment on them. The hotel is approx.15mins drive from the city centre and we would definitely stop here again when in the area. Collapse

We all had an excellent stay here at the Holiday Inn. We booked 2 rooms for this trip as it was cheaper than the wedding venue. The staff were very friendly and welcoming on arrival. The breakfast was very good and the chef was very friendly and couldn't do enough to ensure we had a good breakfast. Food was hot and there was plenty of choice and when we asked for fresh food etc the chef would bring more out. The waitress/waiter who were working over our stay were also very friendly and again made us feel very welcome. We even got talking to the housekeeping staff and again couldn't do enough for us. I had an issue of a damp smell in the room. This was quickly addressed and resolved for my stay. The housekeeping manager did report it to the manager who will hopefully sort it out. Would definitely recommend as it is in a great location for getting about as it is just off the motorway. The only thing I would say is that the seating area to your right as you enter the hotel need cleaning as some of the seats are badly stained and it doesn't give the right impression. Collapse

Food in Holiday Inns is usually of a very high standard however if you want food that has not been cooked - come here. They could not even manage to do a cheese and mushroom melt despite two attempts. The first had not seen any heat whatsoever and was delivered stone cold so clearly no controls in the kitchen to check the quality of food being prepareed and served. The replacement was on soggy bread instead of a ciabatta and the cheese was partially cooked but on the plus side was delivered with marginally warmer mushrooms than the first. The Manager came and collected the tray and on request gave a full refund. As someone who stays in hotels on a regular basis and will be in the area for 6 months I'll bring in a picnic next time.
