We had a very comfortable stay here - we decided to stay in our room but went down to the restaurant to order from the menu there rather than from the in-room menu. They still delivered our food to our room. We plugged our phones into the TV and watched Netflix - our cat also enojoyed the stay! The reception staff were very polite and welcoming. This is a very comfortable place to stay if one wants to divide their journey into manageable chunks. Collapse

We stayed on a Saturday night after a days shopping in Calais, unbeknown to us we were put in an old room which was not good. We had no working air conditioning and it became unbelievably hot, we did complain and they bought a new remote control but not offered another room until we checked out the next morning. The room was very dated but clean lovely big bed. We used the bar but quite expensive, didn't eat at the hotel but also looked expensive. We booked a taxi to got to Sangatte in the evening and we were charged €18 Euros each way all of a 5 minute journey what a rip off. We would stay again but make sure we were offered an upgraded room. We always feel that the Holiday Inn at Coquelles has the edge over alternative hotels located in the centre of Calais, where we used to stay, for a number of reasons. Although being close to the A16 autoroute it is still quiet at night; it is equally close to Cité Europe (free parking); hotel has a large free car park, the staff (Samir, Coralie & Gregory) are all extremely pleasant, helpful and multilingual; there is a very comprehensive buffet breakfast available and many of the rooms have been recently refurbished. We stayed in # 209 which had been tastefully refurbished to a high standard (excellent LG television, bathroom heater with self-regulating temperature controls as well as a single combined EU/UK socket). The latter was useful if you had forgotten to bring an EU adaptor with you. WiFi reception acceptable and free. Unfortunately, the refurbishment did not extend to cover mini fridge or room safe. I found that the bed was firm and I got a good night’s sleep, although my wife found it too hard and ended up with back-ache. Personal choice, I guess. In the evening, I tried the room service meals (omelette & fries, cheese platter) which arrived within 20 mins – tasty and OK if you didn’t want an a la carte meal in the restaurant. Hotel is always consistent in their specification if you require a good night’s sleep before a long drive into France/Europe or returning back to the UK. Collapse

This is a typical Holiday Inn. Generally good but with a few faults. For around £70 per night it represents reasonable value. Very convenient for travellers using the Chunnel. Quiet location. Easy parking. Good but not great restaurant (see my separate review). Checking in and out was swift and carried out without fuss. Room was good size. bed was comfortable, bathroom was good size and well appointed. Hot drinks can be made in the room but limited choice of drinks available (eg only Lipton Tea, coffee and decaf) On the other hand some poor design features. The room could not be heated to a temperature which suits my wife's needs. This is because in room 139 the large radiator is located below a window and ceiling to wall thick curtains stop the heat from escaping into the room. Also the plugs were not receptive to my voltage adapter (which has been used numerous times without a problem in other establishments) meaning I was unable to charge phone or i pad. We avoided using anything from the minibar as the prices were expensive. I managed to leave some documents at reception. When I checked with the receptionist he had then in his possession. But why not phone me in my room to advise? Collapse
