Well, I had better start with the positives.., 1. Nice staff - helpful, polite, and tried their best! Some needed a bit more training in how to be “in the service industry” but they tried at least! Maria (Spanish, on front desk) was the best by far. Good manner, and knows how to do her job properly. 2. Rooms - not a bad size. Beds comfortable, pretty well clean, but “tired” and carpets in rooms and throughout need a good steam clean. So do some of the armchairs. A comfortable pillow, which is so important if you want to get a good nights sleep. Sheets well ironed. 3. Location. Well, it’s the nearest of its type to the airport, apart from the new Hilton (actually AT the airport) and the twice hourly shuttle is quick. Which is why we booked this motel. ———————————————— Now the NEGATIVES. Oh dear.... 1. Kitchen Hygeine!! My food gave me some form of food poisoning and I was up all night with violent diaorrhea. A lot of money for food to make you unwell, and I only stayed so I could get a decent rest before my 6am flight. Had no sleep at all. Dreadful. Emailed reception and bookings today (it was last night that I was ill) and have heard nothing, Also logged it with night porter, so should have been contacted today as a priority. Nothing. Very bad. Might take this further. 2. Cleaning hygeine. The man who cleaned my room did his best.. but it was a bit of a shame that a huge trolley of dirty/soiled bed linen was left in the corridor all day and all evening.. plus scores of dirty food trays/empty cups & glasses outside rooms. Just scruffy and third rate. I did point it out to someone and by 4am the next morning the corridor was clear. 3. Personal hygeine. There is no easy way to say this and not offend, but a member of staff had the most terrible b.o. and that is not acceptable in a service industry. It was hard to take. 4. Food price For what you got (and I got violent food poisoning) it was an expensive meal at £27 for 2 salads , a side of fries and a watery espresso. 5. Coffee. I am a coffee snob. Please teach the waiting/bar/kitchen staff how to make decent coffee? I had two and both were awful. 6. Shuttle bus. At 4am in the morning loud pop music is not considerate! Neither is the (conceited) drivers manner in questioning my request to turn it off. He was a pretty ignorant young man. The only staff member who was not very polite. —————————————- That’s it. Needless to say, unless I receive a full apology and a full refund, I won’t be staying there again! And I’ll NEVER eat there! Collapse
Honestly, stay anywhere else. I wish we had.

Very rude, unhelpful and unfriendly front desk staff. All three of us were asked for credit cards and photo ID even though our rooms had already been paid for and they'd been paid on a single card. The woman at the front desk wouldn't tell us why she needed all our cards and IDs other than "hotel policy". My dad outright asked her what she was going to do with them and again she just said "It's hotel policy". No explanation as to what this policy was or what would happen to our documents. Also, she didn't just look at them, she took them into a back room to do God knows what with and wouldn't tell us why.. Very worrying. I've travelled pretty extensively and I've never had hotel staff take my driving licence and credit card into a back room. This was the coldest reception I've ever had at check in and had we not just travelled for 9 hours I feel like I would have asked to speak to someone in charge. We pre-booked three rooms and I had requested all of them be doubles. All 3 rooms we were allocated were twin rooms. My dad is 6'2" and my brother is 6'4", the twin bed just about fit me comfortably (I'm 5'6"). I didn't complain because I assumed they just didn't have any doubles free, but then that night sitting in the bar we overheard 2 other parties be given the choice of twin or double rooms. The woman who checked us in was very blatantly annoyed with us and I believe she purposely gave us unsuitable rooms just to be nasty. I hope she enjoyed that brief moment of power. There was a dead fly on the desk in my room and the carpet was littered with horrible brown stains. The beds are extremely small and narrow if you get a twin room. There was enough supplies for a single cup of caffeinated instant coffee in the morning. The only positives are that you can control the temperature in your room to your liking and that the curtains do a good job of keeping the room dark. That evening, we stopped in at the bar on our way back to our rooms. The foyer and bar had a terrible smell hanging around them. Every single table was littered with empty glasses and mugs. There was a group of 3 extremely drunk, rowdy men sitting at the bar who kept getting served drinks even though they were beyond wasted and being obnoxiously loud. To make matters worse, their conversation was a load of sexist, obscene drivel about some poor woman they work with. This obviously isn't the hotel's fault, but they should have been cut off 2 or 3 drinks before this. I don't want to be sitting in a hotel bar with my dad and brother while some lout shouts and slurs about how some woman can "s**k his c**k". I understand that they were sitting at a bar, but the bar is in the reception, by the front door and right next to the restaurant and it was only 10pm. This is absolutely not a family environment (not even a civilised environment!) and if I'd had kids with me I would have been very upset. It was so bad that I didn't even want to approach the bar to order a drink by myself. We had one drink then left. In the morning when trying to pay for breakfast, my dad was asked to pay for parking again, even though we had already paid it. When he informed the person at the desk, she asked him how he'd paid as if she didn't believe him. We ordered scrambled eggs and when mine came they had a hair in them, after that we basically all had a continental breakfast because we didn't trust anything that wasn't packaged. The "gym" is for some reason kept at 24 degrees and the windows don't open. We have family who live about 5 minutes away and this hotel would have been ideal, but I will absolutely never, ever stay here again. Nor will I let any of my family. In fact, I will be contacting Holiday Inn directly as soon as I get home. I've never left such a negative review in my life, I can usually always put a positive spin on things, but this place was an absolute waste of money and it totally ruined our weekend trip. We felt victimised by the woman at the front desk who was very surly and rude and had obviously taken a disliking to us immediately, the rooms weren't suitable or clean and the environment and atmosphere in the social area was awful. tldr: stay *anywhere* else but here.
