There is a lot going for the Holiday Inn in Bolton - but a few reservations, if you'll forgive the pun. It is central, easy to find, and with adequate car parking. Reception are friendly and helpful, and neither checking in nor checking out took very long. Our room was just about adequate. We were attending a conference, and the variety of rooms available was very good. The service in the restaurant was painfully slow the first evening. We did mention it after some had been waiting more than 20 minutes for their main courses - but it still took a lot longer. We had dinner as part of our conference. It was a buffet with no staff (to see), and it was not until after we had finished our main course that a waiter came through and took orders for drinks. That was poor. Lunch each day was a 'just about OK' buffet - and much the same each day. Fair to middling. We had two problems with our room, one potentially dangerous, which we mentioned when checking out. The receptionist seemed genuinely concerned, and wrote them down immediately. Collapse

We visit 9-10 times a year. The Hotel is easy to find in Bolton Centre, good plentyful free car parking underground car park or top car park. Check in was swift and staff alwayshave a smile. Room was on first floor and first impressions were good. It was clean with lovely king bed with choice of pillow types duvet looked new. View was rubbish but not a factor in our stay. Bathroom had all extra bits soap, shampoo, shower gel and a great shower over bath (water pressure was fine). There was a hair dryer in the bedroom Tea and coffee tray also available. Its the little extras that make the difference. We have eaten in the restaurant for evening meal before and its excellent if you can get a good room rate. We on this occasion were on comfort packages B&B but with a drink on check in. As always the breakfast was lovely and excellent choices for all tastes probably one of the bests. One downside this visit was cleaning staff knocking on door at 9.20am Sunday morning to service the room.....really thought we were on holiday really! Collapse

This hotel was booked on my behalf. I have stayed before, the organisation I work with uses this hotel. The staff are top notch and can't do enough to help, so it makes the short stay tolerable. This hotel opened in 1970 and is in much need of a makeover. It looks lovely from outside and the reception area is fine. My room was smelly when I walked in....similar to the kind of damp, humid smell that you find in warm, humid countries. The bathroom is very, very dated.....although the shower is good. Personally , if I was paying myself, I wouldn't stay here. Holiday Inn is a global company, surely they could refit the bedrooms!!!!!!! The hotel seemed busy enough. Collapse

Stayed here before many years ago and didn't rate it highly but found myself needing a hotel at short notice and this place was available. I checked in and found myself in one of those rooms where you get the feeling they are kept on reserve just in case, not really used much kinda rooms. I noticed the sheet wasn't tucked under the mattress and went to fix that and I'm no prude but to find condom wrappers and used condoms wrapped in tissues under a mattress is way beyond acceptable. I called reception and the young girl who was the duty manager came up to my room and I showed her the issue, whilst waiting I lifted the mattress on the other bed and it was the same. I was moved room, compensated dinner and given a free breakfast (which i didn't use ). I expected a further apology on departure or a more senior manager to come and speak to me or a follow up courtesy call when someone senior was on duty but nope, checked out and on my way. Ill never use this hotel against really is that simple as in the 3 years between last visit and this one its gotten worse rather than better. Collapse
