The conference was in the hotel we were staying in. Checking in was a disaster, with the receptionist thinking that my colleague and I were a couple. She was rude, no hospitality information given and we had to make up our own sofa bed. We went to Marcos late and we waited an hour and half and it was inedible. That said the general manager Jason and the coffee bar lady Jan were superb with other staff being lovely. Such a shame, we had high hopes. Collapse

Stop over o the way to Cork On arrival no parking spaces and given its location stuck what to do, some ladies pointed out a tucked away space after driving around for a bit. Check lady was pleasant and then informed me that there was a function on so there would be music until 1am, given I have an early flight not the best news, she then said they would be happy to provide complimentary ear plugs, how kind. Went down stairs to eat just after arriving, told that Marco's was busy. Went to the café type restaurant, stood waiting to be served for 15 minutes, finally served, told at least 30-45 min wait for a burger, although was quicker, ordered and sat down in the not very welcoming café area with tiny round tables and bucket chairs. The food was average at best. The area were I sat was cold, smelt of fish (as did the whole lobby area). overall a poor experience. As a spire elite member, I will not being staying there again through choice, I would rather stay further away and get up earlier. Collapse
Greed overtaking service and total disregard of residents access and comfort

I was very disappointed to be refused access into the car park of the Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport at 7:15pm last night and told that I could park in the public car park over 300 yards away down a poorly lit service road in cold and wet conditions. (Note: Google Maps advises caution as this route involves sections of the pedestrian rout not suitable for walking). After parking at the kerb outside and going to the hotel reception desk in the hotel, I was told that the hotel car park was full and that there was a function on in the hotel and there was no parking. All this tells me is that the hotel had decided to put revenue (greed) before service and had not adequately prepared to accommodate the number of cars attending the function and the disruption this would cause to residents, especially with later arrivals and no advance notice of parking issues. After a long journey to get to the hotel (including a 5 hour flight to Birmingham) I was not prepared to carry my luggage 300 yards in the cold, dark and rain, so I cancelled my reservation and left. I use this hotel frequently, usually without problem and always book at least an executive room, but I will now re-think my future plans. I was disgusted at the flippant attitude and lack of respect I was shown at the reception and this will also reflect on my future plans. As a company director, (and Platinum Club member) I use IHG extensively from my travels worldwide and am often accompanied by several members of staff. I will be reviewing our travel policy in the light of this aberration. Regards, David Collapse

This hotel is located close to Birmingham Airport. A bit complicated getting to the hotel using the shuttle and the instructions how to get there was really poor. Small room but a very comfortable bed. I was pretty surprised when I was working in my room in the morning when the cleaning woman came barging into my hotel room without knocking on the door. I have logged quite a number of hotel nights in my life but have never had that happen before. A couple of dining options in the hotel. An Italian and American restaurant and Holiday Inn’s own restaurant. Throughout my stay I found the staff to be very nice but not very well trained. Collapse

Myself and my family (total of 8 adults) were in the UK for a family event and due to extreme snow fall our flight out of the UK was cancelled and therefore we had to get an extra nights accommodation. As the airline was suffering a backlog we were advised to book accommodation ourselves and keep receipts. So that is what we did. I contacted the main booking line and got accommodation for us all in the Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport Hotel. We were quoted a rate of £56 per room B&B which was very reasonable. Upon check in we were greeted by a very grumpy and unhelpful receptionist who was also extremely rude - other members of staff seemed to be friendly except this particular receptionist. To add to this she said it was hotel policy to charge an extra £20 per room which would be released back upon check out. I wasn't made aware of this upon booking but paid this anyway as we needed somewhere to stay. Upon check out we had to then pay the same rate again (£56 per room) and were told that the amount that had ALREADY come out of our bank accounts would be refunded back...............in a few days. Not only were we enduring an extra nights accommodation etc due to flight cancellations, we had to pay twice for accommodation. With 2 weeks until Christmas this is not something that we wanted to happen. I feel this is extremely unacceptable, even though we will eventually get the money back we have never come across this in any hotel we have ever stayed in. What would happen someone at the end of their holiday with limited funds? The hotel itself was basic enough, however we expected this as I guess it is only used for people who have stop overs or who are catching early flights the next morning. There is a free shuttle bus to the train station and then you get the monorail to the airport which is less than 5 minutes. So at least the hotel offer something like that. Food and drinks are extremely expensive. We actually noticed there was another hotel (Travel Lodge) located right beside this hotel and ended up going in there for food and a few drinks that night instead of staying in the Holiday Inn. Staff in there were the complete opposite and it had a much nicer atmosphere. We were sorry we didn't book there for the night. We stayed in the Holiday Inn in Gloucester the night before and we had a completely different experience than in this one. 1. All reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful 2. We didn't have to pay any extra holding charges to our cards. What we were originally quoted was what we paid, unless we wanted to open a tab on our account which we didn't. 3. Food and drinks were much more reasonably priced and better quality. Unfortunately we didn't really have a choice as hotels were booking up quickly that particular day due to all flights out of Birmingham being cancelled. I will definitely not be recommending this hotel. Collapse

The hotel is so easy to find and well appointed for Birmingham Airport, NEC and Birmingham itself. On check-in Ellie greeted us, she was super efficient and friendly. Our room was easy to find with lift access. the room was immaculate and the decor impressive for the star rating. I really loved the chocolate brown and petrol blue drapes and bedding. Bathroom was compact and neat, a fabulous shower! All the extras like shampoo and mini bar with sparkling water and chocolate mmmm! Bed was big and comfy. We dined our first evening in the Marco Pierre White restaurant which was splendid, better than I expected even for simple starters of hickory smoked ribs and calamari followed by burgers. Kasia, Jamie, Rebecca and Ryan were 'on point' showing us to our table and their service made an real impression. Breakfast was similarly a superb experience with Stacey hosting the room with attentive service from the waitresses. The buffet was vast but a English breakfast option folowed by some fruit was enough.....although I wanted to try everything. We dined again the following night at the hotel and the fish and chips were perfect! We used the pool and steam room and the gym was good too. Next time I will book a treatment at the beauty parlour. Our stay has put this firmly on our short break away list as although it is right by the airport and the busy road to Coventry the hotel rooms offer peace and quiet. You would not know their were other guests, no banging doors and no noise at all. Highly recommended and will be back in January 2018 hopefully! Collapse
