Superb hotel with great facilities, stay here every time when on business in Northern Ireland. The gym swimming pool and spa area a great way to unwind after a days work, staff are extremely helpful. I would strongly recommend this hotel.

The Hilton Templepatrick is a super hotel with spacious rooms, friendly staff and some lovely views. We have stayed before (as a couple and with our children) and we would definitely stay again. Great food and nice leisure facilities.

dinner totally unacceptable standard, waited 1hr 35mins. had to send dinner back and complained and got 50% discount but replacement meal was just as bad as original. asked manager where dinner was as had beenwaiting foir an hour and was told that it was being plated up only to wait for another 35mins to get the burger which was completely sub standard. also ordered drink which we had to cancel as these hadnt arrived within 20mins. Bed was extremely uncvomfortable and complained as both wife and I had back pain, only to be told we should have requested mattress toppers! didnt even know we could! no discount or alternative offered and felt that it was our ault for not calling for mattress toppers in middle of the night! SPA was really good and some very good staff unfortunaltey this was outwieghed by the sub standard food and bedding Collapse

We stayed at the Hilton Templepatrick on what could have been one of the most outrageous nights of the year – New Year’s Eve! I had occasion with several members of staff to say, “Only an idiot would stay in a hotel in Ireland on New Year’s Eve”. So please note, I’m nonetheless rating it at 5. To explain: we came over to Northern Ireland from Falkirk in Scotland for a family christening. Because we were dog-minding for the baby’s parents, who also live in Central Scotland, we could only stay one night and returned home on New Year’s Day after a big reception following the morning baptism. Our hope was that, by choosing a good hotel (and I’m an H Honors member) outside Belfast itself, we might get some sleep. The very good Hilton on-line booking system allowed us to adjust which room we'd be in. We came by ferry since my wife has a painful leg nerve and benefits from walking around. The hotel was extremely to reach, a short 15 minute drive up the M2 from the ferry port. The lobby is spacious and attractive, an enjoyable space to sit or socialise. The desk was staffed by one person only, and indeed this one lady, Eveline, was the only staff member we ever found at the lobby desk – a first indication that this was New Year’s Eve. She was terrific. When I asked her what she expected through the night she smiled and said, “Well, there’s a wedding with a disco”, leading to my first “Only an idiot would stay in a hotel in Ireland on New Year’s Eve”. Our room was a Double Hilton Deluxe: very well decorated with subdued tints and subtle lighting. The bed was two single beds fastened together, so wider than a king-size, and I must say it was very comfortable for both of us. Very snug bathrobes and slippers were provided, and the bathroom was very well presented and fitted (though a small niggle – the basin taps had lost their porcelain hot-and-cold identifiers). It was a room that felt easy to relax in. We had booked dinner at the hotel’s main restaurant, Treffners. This was full, not including the wedding party, with a lively, celebratory atmosphere. The menu was, we think, adapted a little to make the New Year special. I was particularly impressed by the starter I had – a terrine of ham and black pudding with a lovely mellow flavour – so I went to the head chef after the meal (part of the kitchen is open to the dining room, with a counter that can serve as the pass) to ask him about it and to thank him for the dish and also the very fine jus accompanying my main. He very kindly explained that when he’d prepared the terrine it was a little too salty so he added cream, which also improved the texture. Despite the loud chatter and banter of the customers (perfectly understandable) and the background music, we enjoyed a very good three-course meal. The maître’d was particularly attentive and helpful, and other servers mentioned that he’d really helped them develop a more professional manner We spent a short time at the comfortable bar, then returned to our room, passing by the loud disco. What I will say is that the building is so well designed that sound-proofing reduced the music to a murmur by the time we reached the room. My wife was able to sleep easily, and I used ear plugs to remove any sound completely. This was just as well because I learned from Eveline the next morning that a fight had broken out around 2 am, with bouncers called in to guide people apart! I’d love to say that breakfast the next morning was good, because I read from other reviewers that this was something they’d valued. However, we’d booked breakfast in our room because the dining room wasn’t set to open until 8 am, it being New Year’s Day and a Sunday, and we had to set off for Newcastle and the christening by 8 am. Though we’d booked a 7-7.30 slot, by 7.35 nothing had appeared so I phoned down to the lobby, but received no answer. I went down to the lobby to find Eveline on her own; she apologised profusely and rang the kitchen, then assured me breakfast would appear soon. It appeared at 7.45 and was adequate, but obviously assembled in a rush. The lady from the kitchen who had brought it up apologised and explained that, being New Year, the staff were coming in late to work. Despite this, I’m happy to give the Templepatrick a 5 rating because we could see that for the rest of the year a fully staffed version of the hotel will provide a fine, fully professional service, and the building and fitting standards are superb. On this visit we didn’t have time to check the spa facilities or golf course, or even the views, it being night, but when we next visit Northern Ireland for a family event we’d like to. Collapse
