There is absolutely no way that this hotel should be treated 5 stars. I have stayed at many 5 star hotels (in fact I just left the SPG in Bali) and they are always courteous and welcoming to the point of being ridiculous. I love that... that's why I stay at 5 star hotels. No one here has welcomed me (beyond a front desk hello). No one has done anything to be kind. In fact housekeeping hasn't even done there function of renewing basic supplies. I have to hurry out to the hall when I hear them (tossing on a pair of shorts while I'm still half asleep) to ask for missing items. The hotel is old and in desperate need of a remodel. It is small and cramped. The bathroom looks like something from the 70s. None of it looks like the pictures, and I have the upgraded room! I'm on vacation starting at what should be a spectacular hotel, counting down the days until we leave for another locale! If this were a cheap hotel, I might taste it a 3. But at this price point, 2 is being really generous. Hilton... you should be ashamed of yourself! I will never stay here again. Collapse

I've stayed in a few Hilton hotels around the world and have not found a reason to give any of these fine establishments a negative rating. Having recently spent 6 nights at the Hilton Singapore, I am glad to say that I still do not have one. The Hilton Singapore has been around for as long as I remember (I grew up in Singapore) and while not much has changed with regards to its exterior, its interior has been remarkably well-maintained. There are minor chinks in the armour, but for the most part, there was little to complain about. For one, it is conveniently located. Its location places it just outside the busy Orchard Road shopping district - it certainly does not have the insane level of foot traffic you will experience in other parts of Orchard Road. It is minutes away from Singapore's rail system (MRT), if not, there is a bus stop just across the road (outside the Thai Embassy) where you can take buses to just about anywhere (including the Airport). Moving on to the room... We were in room 1214, which wasn't our first choice when we did the online check-in. However, we still enjoyed decent views of Orchard Road so it was all good. Just a point to note: 1214 and 1215 are connecting rooms (if you are travelling in a big party). We loved our room - it was spacious and the bed was comfortable. It also came with a safe which would easily hold a decent-sized laptop, plus a small stack of documents. Just 2 points we would like to mention: (1) Toilet flush was a little iffy. I am not even talking about a clogged toilet - there were occasions it struggled to get rid of something as little as a piece of toilet paper. Second or third flushes would do the trick. (2) Perhaps the Hilton Singapore would consider upgrading the television sets in the rooms? I do not know if all rooms have the same TV, but ours looked dated, and felt like it too. In a service industry, there is only so much a place can do. At the end of the day, the people contribute to the experience. From checking-in to checking-out, we were impressed with the attitude of the hotel staff. Every interaction was professional and courteous. I did have an experience which is the only thing stopping me from giving the Hilton Singapore an "Excellent" rating. Apparently the hotel has a policy where management gets worried if a room has had a "Do Not Disturb" sign out for too long. We are quite guilty of that (not just during this stay), but only because we are rarely in the room and did not feel that daily housekeeping was warranted. Two days after we had opened our room for housekeeping, I returned to find two hotel staff exiting our room. When they realised that I was the occupant, they explained that aspect of the hotel's policy to me. While I certainly appreciated the concern and the measures taken to enforce that concern, I think the situation could have been better dealt with. For instance, leaving a card before or after the inspection would go a long way in reducing the awkwardness experienced in such situations. All in all, we had a good stay and did not want to leave. As we had a packed schedule, we did not enjoy more of the hotel amenities, so sadly we do not have much else to write about. Would we come back again? We would definitely consider it! Collapse

It's a Hilton - and up to their standards.

I stay in the Hilton family of hotels somewhat regularly. They have standards and all usually meet or exceed them. The international ones (outside the US) tend to be a bit nicer as this one was. The rooms are cookie cutter style, clean and the beds comfortable. While not a unique experience it is something you can count on and one of the reasons I stay there. The building is somewhat older from what I could tell (maybe built in the 80s?) but the rooms had clearly been refurbished and well maintained. The only thing that looked perhaps a but worn was the carpet. Internet speed was excellent, service was outstanding (concierge especially) but everyone else too. Breakfast was excellent and had a very large selection with healthy, vegetarian, asian and western options. The safe was big enough for a laptop. Electrical outlets by the desk setup to accept most plug types. The Mini refrigerator is not stocked by default (you can call to have that done) but it works so if you pick up something that needs to be kept cold it is there for you to use. Location on Orchard Road puts you in the heart of the shopping district with a plethora of dining and eating options. Collapse
