Used Hilton Orly for a successful 4-night stay on Paris-area trip

Had a 3D/4N stay in Paris with our 4-yo, so decided to use an airport hotel for ease of arrival and departure flights. If you have HHonors status and like to use Hilton chain, you'll notice there's quite a difference in rates between here and other Paris options, as this is not the most modern of them. So having read up on here first (never bad advice!), and knowing we'd really only be sleeping there, we booked a family room for 4N. We found it suited us great - family room was super-size and beds very comfortable, doors are very solid so no corridor noise, great satellite TV channels, room was made up immaculately every day. Front desk were very helpful for general questions, especially if you try speak some French to them! Bits of advice to get the most out of it: - make sure the room you book has water/coffee tray - the cheapest don't. - get breakfast included - free for us as HH Diam benefit, but if not, look to buy in advance or in room rate. It's a real good buffet. - use the shuttles for going to & from the terminals. They ran like clockwork every 15 mins throughout our stay. You can walk to West in 10 mins but it's a busy walk. South isn't really walkable. - look at public transport for getting into town. - the quickest way is to use the airport buses or the ORLYVAL-RER link on a ParisVisite card, but these aren't cheap if you're a family. We had a little more time, so looked up the T7 tramway, and got shuttle to South then 5 min well-signed walk. 20 mins ride on tram takes you to the end of Metro 7 line at Villejuif, and you can use single tickets (Eu 14.5 for carnet of 10) for all of your journeys in Paris, inc T7 itself. - Be aware that other than shops/cafes in terminals there are no restaurants you can walk to from here - so once you are back at night, if you haven't eaten, there's just the hotel restaurants - we ate on our travels so can't comment on evening meal service. - Hire cars can be rented by the day, pick up from underground car park in middle of airport. check prices as they can vary greatly even from one day to the next with same company. We used them for two days. Hotel charges Eu 26 if you take a longer rental and need to park there overnight - not really another option once you have the car. We took two 1-day rentals, one of which was for Disney (an easy 40 mins drive). Overall sentiments - while it would have been nice to stay in the city - the difficulty of finding price/size/location to suit us, meant this was a great option for us. Will strongly consider staying again if/when we next do a Paris Trip Collapse

Issues not resolved was very upset and disappointed I was told I would have a fridge for my insulin to be stored this did not happen. Electric went off twice and were left in the dark. This would be the last place on earth I would stay again Collapse

So my last stay was okay. I stayed one night. This time I stayed three nights and the experience was a bit different. So much so that I think this must be the worst Hilton I have ever stayed at - and I've stayed at a few. So where to start? Room Air conditioning - almost no airflow on the maximum fan setting and no cooling. Bathroom - chipped bath, missing part from poorly-fitted extractor vent. Bed – hard, only feather pillows. Decor - textured wallpaper with magnolia paint applied so badly you can see the ridges of paint. Flooring - wooden. That's fine but noisy guests above really sound loud. Door - battered and a bit tired. Net curtain - a brown colour, presumably from dirt. Smell - the room had previously been a smoking room and you could smell it. Nasty. TV - didn't work. Wardrobe doors – installed on a slant so they wouldn’t stay closed. Service Reception: very pleasant. Honors status: no water in room for any of the days, had to ask for it. Once I got it at reception, another time I was told it was a housekeeping matter and there was no water at reception. It's either one thing or the other. Room cleaning - ignored “Do Not Disturb” sign. Floors not cleaned. Hand towels not replaced on the second day. Room service - a promise of 25 minutes on the first night - it took an hour. The Sirloin was a Rib Eye and everything was cold. Served with one roll and butter. Second night the rice was missed off the order and served with two rolls but no butter. Fairly awful. Value Fairly standard for a Hilton. Other The corridor carpets had the same large pieces of dirt on them when I checked out on the Saturday morning as they did when I checked in on Wednesday evening. Not cleaned at all. On the Thursday night I went down to reception to collect the water they had forgotten to leave in my room to find a demonstration - people yelling and waving banners in reception. Sufficiently loud and scary for me to go back to my room without water. Collapse

A bit sparse but good rooms and nice service! They have most of the amenities of a Hilton but it does not have some simple things like a good view. A bit dated and in desperate need of a renovation. Cant beat the price though.
