Just got back from staying at the Palm Springs Hilton on the last night of Coachella (4/23). We knew the hotel would be full and the prices a bit higher. However on Friday (too late to chg reservation), I rec'd an email informing us that the hotel would be hosting a LED Music Party at the pool and that the pool would not be available to us. We were told we could "shuttle" to other area hotels to use their pool in the interim. I had no notice of this event earlier when I made the reservation. We were also told on Friday that we could "purchase" tickets to the pool party if we wanted go to it. It a party is going on you, as a guest (without a pool party ticket), are restricted to your room, the lobby & hallways. Its super-inconvenient as the pool & surrounding grounds are at the center of the property and one of its biggest assets. Parking is also difficult and large crowds of people are streaming in, out and through the hotel lobby on their way to the pool. I choose to stay several times a year at the P.S. Hilton to relax at and for its low-key old Palm Springs ambiance. I like hang out by the pool during the afternoon hours and always get a pool view room. The amplified music from the party pounded so loudly that the sliding glass door to our pool view room was reverberating and the TV could not be heard without the volume being up to maximum. (I guess I would have been in heaven if I had been a fan of that music). Relaxing in the room was impossible so the daylight hours at the hotel were shot. I inquired about the shuttle to another hotel (a hassle but better than what I was experiencing) and was told that they would take me to the Courtyard Marriott to use their pool. A day earlier when I called about this they said I could go to the Hard Rock or the Renaissance. But apparently somewhere along the way, this was shifted to the Courtyard Marriott which is a business hotel with a small pool down the road. No thanks. I had no choice but to wear earplugs while in the room or go offsite until 6PM when the party ended. That was only one problem I had with my stay. I had also requested that housekeeping NOT spray any fragrance in our room as I have asthma and whatever they use to "freshen" the air triggers an attack. This request is always accommodated. But when I got to my room (which I had picked in advance as a Hilton Honors member), the room reeked with a flowery fragrance in all areas. So long story short, upon check-in, I was sitting in a room that I could not hear myself think in due to extremely loud music coming from the pool area, was experiencing asthma symptoms and trying to air out the room any way I could (by leaving the door open and fanning fresh air in). I had to leave my paid-for pool view hotel room for hours to get away from the noise and to breathe better while my room airing out. Not a good (or relaxing) visit. I would have appreciated the ability to cancel my reservation without penalty as I know that being accommodated at another Hilton or other area property would most likely not have been possible due to all rooms being sold out due to Coachella.
