There are many good things about the Hilton in Nottingham, but it is showing its age a bit these days. Hopefully the ongoing renovations will remedy all that. The bad parts (bad being a relative term - it's not a hovel) mainly centred on the room. The carpet looked like it could use a good clean, some furniture was looking a bit bashed and I spied a couple of cobwebs in one of the corners. The most unsatisfying part was the shower, which was very unresponsive to the dial, taking around a minute to cool down or heat up. Cold water was a bit of theme, as the jacuzzi in the spa was freezing, as it shared the water with the swimming pool. However, the staff member I mentioned the shower to was very engaged and friendly, as they all had been while I stayed. Cold jacuzzi aside, the spa was great, with plenty of heat in the steam room and sauna. All in all, not bad - is 3/5 too harsh? I don't think so - had it not been a premium hotel, it could easily have been a 4, but when you book at a Hilton, you have raised expectations. Fingers crossed the works will help the hotel meet them for future visitors. Collapse

Horrendous rooms, mould in hallways. No restaurant as being refurbished but hotel did not let guests know this prior to arrival. Part of my parties rooms were givinen away. Staff rude and lie and laugh when you complain.

Very good hotel. Check in and check out was extremely easy. Room was very clean and had a good nights sleep. All the hotel looked clean and tidy. Couldn't fault either the location or the level of service.

The hotel is well located for the centre of Nottingham. We had a deluxe king room, which was spacious and had a comfortable bed. Unfortunately everything else about the stay was way below standard for even a 2-3 star hotel, let alone a 4 star one. We were disappointed that despite booking 9 months in advance and having 'Hilton Honors' preferences not requesting a room near a lift - we were given one (room 401) directly opposite the only working lift in the hotel. On entering the room we were hit by the smell of damp. A large damp/mould patch on the ceiling was clearly the source and must have been there for many weeks. The smell irritated my nose and I woke up heavily congested on both mornings. I attempted to use the 'Make it Right' policy and I reported the damp and smell to reception the next morning and he said he would tell housekeeping to give it a spray - I did tell him that the problem was not going to be masked by a spray and nor was it. I have no idea if they did spray or not, but it made no difference - how could it? The bathroom was beyond tired and had all the appeal of a 60's Soviet Bloc tenement. The paintwork looked like someone had started to prepare it for painting and then decided not to bother. Even the bin was covered in dents. The blinds & ceilings were water stained and the fittings sagged limply on the wall. The soap dish, so feeble it couldn't be persuaded to support a small shampoo bottle. The towel rack lazily tilted at an angle towards the far floor. The water pressure was equally pathetic and temperature tepid. The floorboards of the bedroom above creaked and groaned with every footstep - so I was able to hear every one of the guests' steps in the room above until 01:00 and then again from 06:15. The people below us, could probably hear ours. There is no air-con, so the 2nd night was sticky and with no soundproofing for the windows, we could hear Nottingham's weekend revellers make their drunken way home. If it's indicative of the rest of the rooms in the hotel, then it needs to be shut down and properly renovated. The façade of the building was covered in scaffolding & polythene which didn't help the hotel interior's dinginess - but even once that's completed, it will be the proverbial lipstick on a pig if the rest of the hotel isn't completely renovated. All in all, I don't believe that guests should have been put in this room. We used the on-site Bric restaurant on the first evening (Friday) and had already arranged for breakfast the next morning. Dinner - the restaurant was only sparsely populated and the atmosphere soulless. The food was okay overall - the wild boar burger was nice, the accompanying sweet potato fries were bland and the calamari starter was not to my taste (too much batter and felt unhealthy) and the garlic mayonnaise was also bland. Breakfast - was frantic, we were placed between the greeting desk and the kitchen door and it felt like we were in the central reservation of a motorway, not the perfect start to the day. The staff were nice and the food was unremarkable. Needless to say we didn't return the next evening or morning. Collapse

A nice little hotel, The breakfast served is really good. The reception was well kept and the staff were helpful. Wifi in this hotel is horrendous, connection lasts for about 20 seconds at a time in the rooms, but is acceptable in the reception area. Noise levels in this hotel were terrible, being awakened every few hours to loud music and a tv. when reported to reception they were aware, yet nothing was done. The rooms are small and basic. Not to the standard expected from a Hilton Hotel and far inferior to most others Collapse
