This is the 2nd time I've stayed at the Hilton in Northampton, last time was in March 2015. This hotel is tired and needs some updating. The cupboards are falling apart when you open them, the draw in the living space that had the hairdryer in literally fell apart as I opened the draw. The bed linen had holes in and the general room was tired together with the bathroom. Stayed in much better Hiltons and lower cost alternatives. On the plus side the staff are excellent, this is the only reason I gave them a three otherwise my rating would have been a lot lower. Sorry Hilton you need to up your game. Collapse

Had a family room for my wifes 40th and the price for room and breakfast wad very good. Indoor pool was pleasant and the kids really enjoyed it. Breakfast was OUTSTANDING, and besides the Ritz and Waldorf, was the best from a restaurant i have had in this country. Only.downside wad the lrice of food and dinner at the hotel. It was ridiculous. Its not a palace, although decent, and this was a lwt down. I believe even something as basic as beans on toast was in excess of £7, and 4 small cokes will set you back £20. Room was a good size and decent although the walls are very very thin Collapse
Unexpected Stay at the Hilton

Due to technical problems at another hotel, we were rebooked at the Northampton Hilton. This proved to be a thoroughly pleasant experience. I often stay at other Hiltons for business but this weekend stay was nicely relaxing.

March 9 evening I ordered the 10oz British Rib-Eye Steak expecting a large size steak. I figured 16 oz., is a pound in US so it should be rather a good size steak. Instead it was small in diameter and thickness . I guess 10oz British is smaller than USA steaks. There was also a lot of fat in the steak. The amount or piece of fat that was in my mouth, I had to use my napkin covering my mouth a spit it out, so no one could see what I was doing. I figured I finish the steak since it cost so much. March 12, I ordered the Spaghetti with meatballs. The spaghetti was worse than the steak. At least the steak had some taste to it. There was a lot of water on the bottom of the bowl from the boiling of the noodles, maybe it wasn’t drained long enough before placing in bowl. The sauce was this little amount on top of the noodles, which didn’t really look like spaghetti sauce. The taste was horrible. I’ve tasted better can store bought spaghetti sauce. The meat balls looked artificial. The meatballs were ground up beef made to look like meatballs of some type. Overall that was the worst spaghetti I’ve ever had. The sauce looked like the cook took some ground beef and sparkled it over the noodles. This I couldn’t finish. The waiter saw that I didn’t finish and asked me how was it. I just made a sound and a sad look. March 15, wasn’t very hungry that evening. Just plan on having something light before retiring up to the room. The hostess mentioned the soup was vegetable soup. I figured that should be something light and with a medium size bowl that should work fine. Having carrots, celery and all sounded great to me (imagining it in my mind). The waiter placed the vegetable soup on my table and all I can see is green on the surface. I figured all the vegetables were on the bottom of the bowl. Took my spoon and placed it in the green liquid. What did I find, nothing. I looked under the bowl and plate to see if maybe the vegetables crawled out. I looked on the floor, still nothing to be found. Maybe I misunderstood the hostess for soup instead of broth. Oh well, I may as well give it a try and see what it taste like, maybe it taste better than it looks. Big mistake, I can’t even describe what it tasted like. Dinner did come with four pieces of bread. Maybe soaking the bread in the soup would give the soup some flavor. Actually it made the bread tasted worse. Couldn’t finish the soup. But the four pieces of bread we’re ok. The desserts were very good. Baked Vanilla Cheesecake , Slated Caramel & Chocolate Tart. I was looking forward to the desserts rather than the dinners. The Hilton Club sandwich for me was the best item. Just slightly toasted bread, just the right amount of lettuces, bacon, chicken, egg. And very large along with chips. Taste good. Collapse

My boyfriend and I stayed here for his and his friends birthday. On site parking was perfect. On arrival there was a wedding and it was busy but I didnt mind that at all. It was clean and the gentleman who checked us in (sorry I can't remember his name) was very welcoming and polite wished us happy anniversary, it wasn't our anniversary lol and I don't know why it was in the booking but once we got to our room we had complementary drinks, fruit and the bed was beautifully made (see picture) It was a nice gesture and a nice touch so thank you very much. The room itself was a guestroom and most definitely bigger than average rooms. Bathroom is a good size with plenty towels and powerful shower. TV modern and can connect phone via Bluetooth too. Iron and ironing board in room along with space to hang clothes too. Desk was cute! Once we came bk after our night out, Paddy was on reception and was again welcoming and explained to us we could order from the 24 hour menu as I was drunk and hungry lol Thanks Paddy (top lad) Bed was comfortable and the grounds itself was nice to look at through our window in the morning. I would like to thank Hilton for complimentary drinks and going the extra mile for my Mrs birthday even though you thought it was purchased anniversary. Will defo be back as it's an overall beautiful and comfortable and clean hotel! Collapse
