Where to start! Great hotel, ideally situated, right on the banks of the Mississippi River, we had a river view on a high floor and we could see for miles! from here we could watch the ships go by including the two paddle steamers. The Hilton has its own shopping mall, air conditioned which was well received as when we went in October it was in the 90's! Valet parking took away the strain of finding somewhere to park, although not cheap! Bars and restaurants were good, although we had to wait 1.5 hours for a table as there was a conference going on at the same time. We up graded our room to the higher floors which meant we had a light breakfast included in separate lounge area with soft drinks included, views were stunning! In summary, not cheap, but well worth it, you only have one life! Collapse

I've stayed in may Hilton Hotels all over the country and this one just didn't seem quite as 'nice' as some of the others that I've visited. I made my reservations months ago through the organization that I belong to and was one of the first to do so. I'm a Hilton Honors guest, but the room I received was in the annex building across the other side of the railroad tracks. When I checked in, I wasn't asked about my being a Hilton Honors guest, and I had to go back the next day to make sure that my account was credited with my stay. My room did not have any kind of view to speak of other than of a small courtyard that was all paved. Others in my group were telling me that they have views of the river, the French Quarter, etc...., but I had none of that. My room was nice enough though and as I wasn't planning on spending much time there during the day, I decided it wasn't worth trying to get a different one. On the first full day, I came back to my room around 3:00 pm or so and it still hadn't been made up. So I called over to housekeeping and they came pretty quickly. They were nice and friendly, so that's a plus. All in all, my stay here was good, but with so many other choices in the area, I'm not sure that I'd stay in this particular Hilton again. I liked it well enough seeing as how it was close to the Convention Center, but there were others that weren't that much further away that might have been a better choice based on my particular likes. My husband stayed here in October for a convention and my 8yo daughter and I came along. In the past I have stayed in the FQ on Bourbon St and this location is much quieter. We had a 2 Queen city-view room on the 19th floor (the best we could get without paying extra for the River-view room) and it was not noisy and had a nice view of Harrah's Casino and the City skyline. The only noise issue was our in-room refrigerator which made a high-pitched whining sound. Once we figured out what it was it was easy to remedy. The room and hotel was clean though housekeeping was spotty. Some days our coffee maker was not cleaned and others our coffee was not replenished. One day I found the used coffee pack on the floor. If we left a note for something it was always taken care of. An item went missing from our room and neither housekeeping, nor the lost and found department has found it yet. It was not an expensive item, but caused us great inconvenience. The Starbucks cafe is nice though they may run out of breakfast food is you come too late. The bar is also nice. We did not eat at Drago's but went across the street for a quick dinner and brewed-on-site beers at Gordon Biersch before catching the Krewe of Boo Halloween Parade. For those who want to cut out 10 minutes from the walk to the French Quarter, there is a streetcar just steps away from the hotel entrance. It costs $1.25. Riverwalk and a mall are nearby. We walked to the Aquarium of the Americas and The Audubon Insectarium and butterfly garden. Overall I would stay here again if the price was right. Collapse
