From Venice Airport it is nice to travel by boat rather than bus to the city, in my opinion one of the things that makes visiting Venice so special. A private water taxi would be ideal, but did not fit our budget so we took the water-bus (journey time around 80 minutes) at cost of €27 for a return trip. What we did not realise was that the "blue line" goes to the hotel landing stage and we got off at the stop before Zattare, expecting the hotel shuttle boat to take us across the water to the hotel. Wrong! The shuttle runs every 40 minutes or so from San Marco, but (at least in winter) only to and from Zaterre in the Evenings. Learn from my experience and confirm your travel arrangements from the airport with the hotel before your trip. After a walk via Academia to San Marco (no hardship on a crisp winters day) we could the hotel shuttle-boat which sails from a pontoon next to a very large statue of a man on a horse. The shuttle-boat itself is very pleasantly trimmed and makes the 20minute scenic crossing regularly. During our stay it followed the posted timetable to the minute. The hotel buildings occupy a large area, but strangely the hotel felt anything but large and impersonal. We had requested a room with a water view and were delighted to be up-graded to a suite. If you are expecting views of the Grand Canal and Gondola's you will be disappointed, but we were fascinated by the variety of traffic passing our widow as we looked across to Venice. The room had a lounge, separate bedroom, modern bathroom. Wifi worked well and the TV had a limited choice of English Speaking TV channels. Although we never saw any housekeeping staff the room was kept spotlessly clean each day. We had access to Executive Lounge where we enjoyed a good choice of hot and cold food for breakfast. Coffee and cakes are available from 3pm to 5pm, with "happy hour" from 5pm to 7pm where wine, soft drinks and nibbles are provided. This was our fifth trip to Venice. In the past we have stayed in hotels in the Centre of the city in some charming old buildings, which gave the benefit of stepping out from the front door directly into the hustle and bustle of this tourist-driven city, but this time we enjoyed being across the water in such a splendidly refurbished building, top marks to the architects and designers concerned. Trips out needed a little more thought in terms of timing but a great place to stay and unwind. Collapse

We stayed here for a weekend. The room was large with a seperate shower and bath. But the hotel failed to charm, in my opinion it is worth the 5 stars it has. We stayed at several other hotels that had less stars and were cheaper that were way better. The personel was friendly but not exceptional. There were several little things that were broken/lacked maintenance. When we arrived we had to pay for the Wifi but after one complaint we got free access. (Like really paying wifi for the price we payed for our stay? It should be free for everyone) But I also heard in general Venice is really expensive and its hard to find an affordable hotel that is ok. Collapse
