So before I go into the negatives I would like to say that the staff in the lobby entrance, guys who take your luggage up, bar staff and especially the staff on hand for breakfast are brilliant and very friendly. The taxi boat is good to have and will shuttle you across to the main pier where you can catch the BTS sky train or get a boat elsewhere into Bangkok. The lobby is pretty grand and the breakfast offering is good with plenty on offer. The big let down are the rooms, they're in need of a good renovation if I'm honest. The flush didn't work on our toilet so an engineer had to come, the main light switch to the room kept dropping off the wall which should be a H&S concern anywhere in the world for a Hilton. However the room didn't smell too great but I only noticed the damp as we were leaving which I've tried to include below. Also the prices for drinks in the hotel are obscene. Around 100-120 baht max in town for a beer, by the pool I paid £260+ once the service charge was put on without even being questioned. So when it's shown in the menu at 220 baht, this is a lie. All in all I don't feel we got value for money here and I would honestly advise people to look at other similar hotels in the area for around the same price. Collapse

I had the fortunte of staying at both the Hilton Millenium and Shangri-La hotels on my recent visit to Bangkok. First of all, they are both great hotels. You will not go wrong with either one. Shangri-La gets the better score for staff friendlieness and the personal touch. Shangri-La also has the edge for access to walking out the door and being in a great location to walk and experice Bangkok. However, Hilton towers over the city and has an unbeatable 360 degree view of both the city and river. Overal, Hilton's pool is awesome and has a very nice gym, but Shangri-La has a great gym and a better spa. It is like a Turkish bath experience. In terms of location, they are bascially across the river from each other. Price? Hilton was better price, coming in at almost half my Shangri-La bill. Two very nice hotels... and if something changes before Ieave Bangkok, I will update you. Cheers! Collapse

I booked this hotel very last minute due to an aborted trip in Southern Thailand and arrived into Bangkok by the Airport Express which was probably a mistake as very few taxi drivers were willing to take us over the river from Phaya Thai station, however, we did eventually get a taxi to take us over the river. I would suggest that it might be better to get a taxi direct from the airport to the hotel to avoid this issue. I initially booked an executive room, however, on checking the Hilton app, there was an upgrade to a suite at a price that was a no brainer to accept. Checking in was a simple process which was carried out in the lounge and we were escorted to our suite which was large, but somewhat spartan to be honest, however, the rooms were clean and everything worked fine. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and external and internal areas of the hotel were clean and tidy. As a frequent visitor to Bangkok, the location was not an issue for me even though this was the first time I had stayed on this side of the river, however, even though you need to get a boat and skytrain to get into the heart of Bangkok, a first time visitor should have no problems getting in and out of the city once they become familiarised with the area. The only negative I encountered was the poor offerings in the executive lounge during 'Happy Hour'. Breakfast and tea in the lounge is fine, but limited drinks on the evening and very poor food was a little disappointing, however, the view from the lounge is probably one of the best in Bangkok. I don't expect Champagne and Caviar, but chicken nuggets....really? If you are a sun worshipper, then perhaps this hotel is not for you as the pool area gets very little sun and as the pool is actually covered, the squealing of kids is exacerbated as the sound echoes off the roof. Other than the negatives mentioned, my stay was fine at a price that was reasonable and I would certainly stop here again. Collapse
