This was quite possibly the worst hotel experience I have ever had with Hilton. The staff had attitude, they were surly and unhelpful. They didn't even wear a uniform. Managers on duty rocked around in Jeans and polo shirts. For my entire stay (2 nights) Mugs and litter was left in the corridor outside my room. Room was inadequate and was poorly furnished. This I can live with, but the problem was it was filthy. There were hairs in the bathroom and stained linen. Despite Certain tier HHonors members getting free breakfast, you are made to sign the ~$35 bill and it only gets removed upon check-out. Staff didn't care about anything. They didn't care that the room was dirty, they didn't care that their guests weren't happy. New York has literally hundreds of hotels. Don't stay here, even if you are loyal to Hilton as you would regret it. There is no sign of customer service or proper management. This hotel is derelict ruin. Collapse

The Hilton New York Grand Central (or Manhattan East as it was known when we booked) is a hotel which I have now visited twice; once in August 2016 and again in February 2017. Both times the hotel has been a great place to stay. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to Grand Central and 20 to Times Square. You can make it to the Empire State Building in about 20 mins also. The rooms are small but clean, tidy and has lots of amenities. We stayed in room 514 which appears to have disabled access and has a wet room rather than bath. We stayed in 314 last time which was identical so assume that the '14' rooms are perhaps disabled access rooms. The staff are friendly and helpful; we had an issue with our toilet upon arrival but this was fixed almost immediately (someone from the management team had arrived at the room almost as soon as I had got back upstairs from reception!) and all staff had a smile on their face whenever you walked past. I am still slightly confused as to why a $200 reserve is put on your card; this is a very high amount and while I was told that my card needed to be swiped when I arrived I wasn't made aware that this was why (I was told it was for any payments that needed to be made which I assume meant breakfasts etc) or quite how large an amount would be held. Had I known this, I probably would have chosen a different card as I am now low on available funds until it goes back on! Nevertheless, the hotel is a good one, in a fantastic location and with friendly staff. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in New York and would not hesitate to stay here again should I return. Collapse

Just realized the name of the hotel has changed from Manhattan East to Grand Central. Another great stay at this hotel with consistent service. All staff are friendly, professional and very helpful. Location is central to everything and although the hotel does not have room service, there are plenty of restaurants near by. The wonderful gentlemen at the bell desk can always suggest great places. We checked in at 10pm and was assisted with a hassle-free check-in. No of days = 4. Room/Stay : The room was small (standard for Manhattan) but clean. Our room had no view, but the comfort of the room was up to Hilton standards. The building though is an old one, which got renovated. Food and service –Breakfast buffet spread was continental with great variety. Overall taste of the food was good. Staff is courteous and helpful. They have paid parking. Overall a very decent hotel if you consider the location (especially when you are talking about Manhattan). Collapse
