I had an excellent stay as always. Massive thank you to the front desk team for making me feel welcome throughout my stay. (Anthony & Sammy.. All of the staff). Friendly and down to earth. It nice to see the staff smiling. Full of real people not robots. Well done. I like how the staff recognise their regular guests. Its makes the experience more special each time. I look forward to returning in a couple of weeks. Collapse

My wife and I stayed for one night at the Hilton Garden Inn in Sunderland - and we loved it! We were in town visiting a relative with dementia, and needed a good value place to unwind. We booked our room via booking.com 2 days in advance, getting a rate comparable with the pricier Premier Inns. We had a hassle-free check-in by friendly front desk staff. We were NOT asked for a credit card in order to "block credit" for any extras we may charge to our room. Refreshing. It's a new hotel - and everything about it felt good quality, well-designed, well maintained, and undoubtedly well-managed. Our King size room gave us everything we needed and more. Immaculately clean, easy-to-use controller for heating-aircon, nicely decorated. Huge desk space, and more than enough sockets for iPhone & iPad chargers. Tea/coffee, empty fridge for personal use, iron, hair-dryer, safe, good size freeview TV, average speed free wifi, more than enough storage hanging space and good size mirrors. The bathroom had a fantastic large walk in shower. The wash basin area was well designed - with a range of little toiletries to use. Only gripe - I would prefer large dispensers - handwash by the basin, shampoo/shower gel by the shower. It would avoid the problems of trying to get the liquid out of a minute bottle with wet hands and then attempting the impossible task of standing it up on the wire holder by the shower!! We had a good night's sleep in a very comfortable bed - although a thin duvet may not be enough for some folks. We didn't find any extra blankets. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Both meals were very good - and good value. The only let-down was the breakfast coffee and orange juice. Heartfelt plea..... Please invest in a better coffee machine and better beans. And please don't water down the orange juice!!! Maybe even consider freshly squeezed - it's easy to do these days - and worth the extra effort. Your guests will be eternally grateful. We stayed on a Saturday/Sunday - when the football team were not playing at home. As the hotel is cheek-by-jowl with the ground the experience on match day may not be quite as relaxing as we enjoyed. Finally parking. The options are slightly bizarre - there is not a hotel car park it would seem - although there are signs - but they lead to nowhere. A small car park 50 yards away over the road is fine to use we were told - and if that was full you can use the football ground car park, and we should ignore the warnings about being clamped. Ummm... So in summary - there were only a few niggles - and they were relatively insignificant. This hotel really is a model for other hotels. So ....Five stars and many thanks to everyone at the Hilton Garden Inn for a great stay. Collapse

Hotel is very nice heipfull in reception but did not tell me about putting card in to white box to get lights on. I was with my 8 year old grand son and I am 70 years old I had to go back to reception to find it out. Evening meal was not to bad service slow and the food was not very hot. My son arrived at 10 pm and they were very heipfull in getting some food for him. Breakfast the following morning was 7 till 11 I think we went for it at 7 staff very helpful but once again the food was not very hot but good. Collapse

As expected this hotel was of good Hilton standard. Room was imaculate and had a free safe available. Rooms have dryer, iron and ironing board, as well as the usual kettle and teas. This hotel has an excellent gym, which is unusual for most hotels I've stayed at. A good selection of weights and machinery. Meals and bar service are of a decent standard. Free parking is available in the football ground car park. There's nothing in the way of shops or other amenities nearby, but a short drive and you can find what you need. Collapse
