We booked this hotel for an overnight stay through booking.come last week. Room £189 for myself and two children. Booked as there was so many activities plus half board was included. Sadly on arrival though I was told my 11 yr old would cost for additional meals.. disappointed as I thought this was an inclusive price. Room basic, bathrooms like school ones. Bar & restaurant charge ludicrous prices for soft drinks and a single glass of wine really expensive. Swimming pool OK, would benefit from an upgrade to awful changing rooms and unfriendly family doors etc. 2 changing cubicles unacceptable. Overall the benefits of this hotel were the activities- advise is to stay elsewhere and come and a joy the outdoor activity centre as a visitor. Taking advantage of the guests to charge use prices is disappointing. Collapse

We've stayed in this Hilton a few times in the past, the most recent in July 2014. When we decided to take another short break in the area we booked the Hilton again looking forward to another good experience. On the face of it everything is good, but look between the cracks and there are some serious issues! We left this morning with a feeling of major anti climax. There were so many things that were wrong, from the blood on the bedsheets to the shower that dribbled water out, and if you were lucky, might have been luke warm before scalding you! Some of the stairways and corridors were dirty and in need of a good clean. Our particular room was very tired and in need of serious upgrading to be anything like a 4* room. The mattress on one of the beds was ready for the bin. The room was so hot and there was no air con (admittedly, not normally a problem for rooms in highland Scotland! ), so we opened the window, but the noise was a problem for a decent sleep. There was a radiator in the room that must have been from the last century that creaked and banged the whole time we were there. If you managed to get to sleep and someone in the room above used the toilet or had a shower you were in for a good 10 minutes of drainage or water pump noise! We witnessed some truly awful things from the waiting staff in the inverdruie restaurant. One lad, when he was cleaning a table, used his disinfectant to spray a table, which still had a milk jug full with milk on it. When he sprayed the table, the spray clearly went into the milk jug. I then thought to myself, he'll put that one away and get a fresh one. Nope, he set the table and seated another family without changing the jug. Could have been an honest mistake, but still not good. A waitress at the evening service dropped a bread roll on the ground, when she thought no one was looking, wiped it on her pinny and popped it back in the basket. Very poor. The kids weren't permitted in the pool themselves under 16 years of age i.e no life guard. Our kids are really strong in water, and are 12 and nearly 15. The kids aren't allowed in the bar area after 8 pm, regardless of the fact there were no other seats free in the main communal area. The bar area and the communal area are separated by a wall you can see through and a few stairs. On check in we requested a room with separate beds for our girls, or even pay for an upgrade to a suite. They said that wasn't possible, which is fair enough - they were busy. To then hear that other families had been given rooms with separate beds for their kids after complaining was very very disappointing. The one thing that made this review 2 stars and not 1 was the quality of the adult menu food, which was of a good standard, fresh and well prepared. The kids menu was disappointing and the food had clearly been sitting around a while before being heated up. It does pain me to write a negative review on this hotel because we have great memories of the place from previous visits, but the rooms are in real need of renovation and some of the staff were in need of simple health and safety retraining!! If you hadn't stayed here in the past then maybe you wouldn't notice these things, but to us it was quite shocking to see the place slip backwards so far. Their other highland resort in Ballater has being going through some renovations lately, so maybe that means Colyumbridge is next - it certainly needs it. We certainly won't be returning any time soon until it's upgraded or the room rates are seriously reduced, which is a pity because it is in a lovely spot with easy access to all that the area has to offer, but it's just not worth the money any more, there are better alternatives if you care to look around. John Cleese would have been in his element here! Collapse

We have returned from spending 3 nights and 4 days... We have stayed here over the years but this time was my most disappointing. Staff all friendly whether pool, bar, front desk and restaurants... Couldn't fault staff. Bedroom very dated (pet room) although didn't get this discounted and you pay for dog. The bathroom was so old fashioned, poor flooring and smelt damp. The hallway leading to bedroom badly needs modernised. The swimming pool area and changing rooms badly need investment ... Tiles need replaced... I complained on Tuesday after finding kids glasses in the room( clearly a concern that cleaner hadn't found these , we checked in on Monday) and that damp smell in bathroom etc only to be advised today when spoke to Claude duty manager this hadn't been logged. Glad spoke to Claude to raise my concerns around hotel needs investment .. There is the McDonald resort in Aviemore which has high standards of leisure facilities , rooms etc and coylumbridge is in danger of losing custom if serious investment isn't put in to bring up to the Hilton brand standard. Not sure would return unless some money invested back into the hotel... Such a shame as we holidayed at this hotel as kids and now this is probably the 5th time taking my own kids. Claude I'm glad took the complaint on and advised would log this, he seemed genuinely interested in the feedback and would highlight to housekeeping, maintenance etc . Collapse

We arrived at the hotel at about 2pm and were booked in as a matter of course. We then had a drink before we went to room. We had to book a time for restaurant in both nights. When we got to room we were impressed with the size of room and in suite bathroom. Dinner on both nights was very well presented and meals were delicious in both restaurants. Breakfast in the mornings were buffet style with everything from cereals, waffles, and cooked meals good value. The Let's Relax Spa at the hotel is a must do if you like a good service and good range of treatments and reasonable prices. Collapse
