We spent 5 days at the hotel at the end of April, two adults and a 2 year old. The family room was fine, two double beds where the 2 year old could stretch out on the bed against the wall and the hotel provided a bed guard. Whilst there wasn't a fridge in the room, we were able to leave our oat milk in the reception fridge so picked up the milk for day and night time bottles on the way back from breakfast or dinner. Our two year old is off dairy and soya and the hotel were brilliant - particularly Kristina in the restaurant who pretty much designed a menu for our daughter when we arrived. It meant there was variation in the meals which is excellent customer service. Meals are great, tasty and plentiful - I'm still digesting the lamb shank! Service is excellent from all staff ranging from reception, restaurant, lobby cafe, leisure club. Kids pool is nice and warm and whilst there's no hot jacuzzi it means kids can have fun with the bubbles. Good play park out the back and Fun House is adequate rainy day activity but no discount for guests unless you're on a toddler package. The Macdonald Hotel Activity Centre is better value for under 5s whilst Fun House is better for older kids. The Macdonald pool was cold but it had a decent sized shallow area ideal for younger kids and they have a fun wave machine. You can get day passes to the pool and Activity Centre if you're not staying at the hotel. Funicular railway was fun, particularly as it was snowing. Didn't make it to Landmark due to weather but heard it's better for older kids. Would recommend this hotel and whilst some folk say it's dated, it has actually been modernised! Just takes time and money and for locals to visit and invest in our own tourism! Collapse

Just back from a 5 night Toddler Break with the hotel and my kids are already asking when we can go back! From the park to the fun house, games room, crazy golf and the swimming pool, there is always something for the kids to do if the weather is not the best-and this year we managed to get snow!!!! (I have been as a child and with my 2 children the last few years and have seen sun and showers and now snow!!) The food was great, breakfasts excellent as they catered for your every want! Once you have breakfast you don't want to eat for the rest of the day! Lol! Staff were excellent as always and go out of their way to help you and make sure you have everything you need. Entertainment for kids throughout week was great as was the music in lounge at nights. The only complaint would be some of the decor in the rooms, cracked tiles in bathroom,no fridge in room and chair looked to have seen better days. However this will not stop us coming back again in the future. Thanks again for another fab holiday!! Collapse

We went over the Easter holidays. The hotel was busy but not overly so. Two nights we ate with the Italian buffet which the kids enjoyed. The bistro was OK but it would of been easier to just stick with the buffet. There was pizza, pasta and some great starters etc. The breakfasts each day had a large and varied array of hot and cold. something for everyone. The woodshed bar in the grounds has good beers and is very reasonably priced for a hotel bar. Much cheaper than the one in the lobby. The playground was good and safe for the kids and the location of the hotel is ideal for exploring the area. The hotel is ageing but to be honest it did not detract from the overall experience. The restaurant was nice and new and the bar area modern. Collapse

Had a very enjoyable couple of nights away with the family here. Was returning after 30 years and was delighted to see Cyril the Squirrel still there!! The foyer is very smart, but as you walk further the hotel starts to get a little more drab. Our room was fine - clean enough. There were sticks under the bed so clearly the cleaning staff don't clean everywhere! But agree with other people's comments that it is a little tired in places and definitely needs a refurb and a good coat of paint. We found our room pretty noisy - we were awoken by next door running a bath as the pipes were ridiculously noisy. Also, more soundproof doors would be appreciated as you could hear everyone going up and down the corridor. We ate in the Bistro on the first night after reading another travellers' comment that it was far superior to the self-serve restaurant, but I don't agree at all. The £16 pp allowance in the DBB deal didn't go far. While the fish was nice, it definitely wasn't worth £13 and the lamb chop that turned up when my husband ordered the leg of lamb was very disappointing. The sharing dessert platter wasn't great either as the sticky toffee puddings and brownie were pretty stale. On the other hand, the self-serve restaurant was fab, particularly for hungry children. Good selection, and I could have had as much fish as I wanted for no extra charge. Seems crazy?! One thing I'd say is that the seats were pretty disgusting. We had 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts, sat at different tables each time, there were 4 of us, so that's 16 different chairs. All horribly stained and grubby. Not pleasant to be sitting on. I appreciate there are lots of kids in the hotel, but that's no excuse...These NEED to be cleaned! The staff were all enthusiastic, courteous and polite, particularly Donna(?) in the Bistro. We didn't spend too much time in our room as there is so much to do. The playpark is great. We didn't make it to Softplay as thankfully the weather was kind to us, but always a good option for a rainy day. The pool has seen better days, though it was clean enough. I looked back at family pics from 30 years ago and it appears to be the same tiling! There's great family entertainment. Our kids were hoping to see the Animal Mam, but half an hour after it was due to start, we were informed that he was unable to attend! The staff were great though and made it all better with balloons, popcorn and Cyril the Squirrel! Would recommend for a family getaway, but do feel that for over £200 a night, comparing it to other hotels I've stayed in, the rooms need to be upgraded. Collapse

We chose the Hilton Coylumbridge as our wedding venue, we got married this year in February. We even got a wedding co-ordinator who helped us throughout the planning process. We stayed the night before and got given a lovely big suite on the day of the wedding. The rooms were nice, cosy and clean and even got breakfast in bed. On the day, we got a masters of ceremony alongside our co-ordinator who made sure everything ran smoothly. Chris and Jocelyn both did a fab job! The grounds were lovely for photo taking after wards, it was a windy and wet day so we ended up getting married in the function room. It was nice and well lit up. Everything was great except for one issue...we ended up having missing cards from our guests which had money in them, (only noticed it when we got home when we started making a list of things we received from people) the incident was reported to the police and a case was opened. Jocelyn was very good at liaising with us and the police throughout the investigation. My dad and brother went down after the wedding dance to get our Post Box but was told to leave it there as the suite will be locked overnight and that it will be secured. The police updated us of the case and was told that the suite can easily be accessed through a door next to the Bistro, hence, it's not safe nor secure and that the CCTV footage is of very poor quality. So just an advice for anyone wanting to get married there, make sure that anything valuable is taken in to your room. Another thing that most of our guests complained about was the price of the drinks, they're very expensive. It'd probably be way cheaper to bring your own bottles and pay for the corkage fee. We also spent a fortune on our 3 tier wedding cake, only to find out that only the bottom tier was cut, so not everyone got a piece which is a shame. Wish they had been a little bit more organised.
