Ignore the industrial estate and dual carriageway - it's a nice hotel

As others have commented, the arrival to and setting of the hotel is not exactly scenic - turn off the dual carriageway and go down what looks like an industrial estate service road. But this is Coventry and next to the M6, so you're not going to get herds of wildebeest crossing the savannah are you? It's pretty much a bog-standard up-market (ish) business hotel and conference centre. You wouldn't be coming here for a week's holiday with the family. I have stayed here a few times on business trips and am getting to like it. It of course depends on the staff who you deal with, and the receptionist was wonderful - friendly and helpful. I went to the health centre a couple of times and that was fine too - nice staff, well equipped and the pool small but not busy. Wifi was free, but I think because I was a Hilton Honors cardholder. Breakfast is a touch random - you get seated then fend for yourself from the buffet and someone eventually brings the tea or coffee. All in all, it's a pretty standard place and depends on the staff you deal with, but I had a perfectly decent overnight stay Collapse

Rooms basic, hotel end of industrial estate, just off motorway. Charge £12.99 for Wi-fi Avoid second floor as smell from Leisure centre/swimming pool over powering. Offered upgrade to Premium room on 3rd floor for an extra £30 per night but when we looked at the room couldn't see any difference - maybe beds slightly larger. On the plus side the body lotion has a very nice smell! Collapse

Had no air conditioning/ heater for first two nights despite informing staff after check-in. Heaters were bought to room on third night. Was offered to move room on third night but no real apology or attempt to compensate offered. On fourth night of reservation, was told not required to book a table as restaurant would not be busy, then (3 hours later at 7.00pm) upon trying to dine in restaurant was instructed that we couldn't as there was a large party booking and was restricted to dining in bar with room service only menu. The food we received was not the food ordered and was cold. Offered a free drink but declined the offer as no apology given and then complained to reception staff. No duty manager came to speak or see us, although we did ask for the matter to be resolved at a later stage so that we could eat in peace. Reception staff were helpful throughout our stay, however, male restaurant and bar staff were extremely unhelpful throughout our stay and on this occasion acted as if we were in the wrong and should be grateful to have the bar menu with very limited availability of dishes even for the offered menu. Very lax service throughout and add service charge as standard to all orders on food and drinks. There is very little 'service'. Complete lack of customer care from restaurant and bar staff. Hotel reception staff are good but aware and even agree that the restaurant and bar is a shambles. We were not allowed to check in until 3pm despite requesting an early check-in time. When asked if we could change into a suit in a room which was near we were told that's not possible and sent to leisure facility. No apology offered. TV control did not work and had to be replaced on second night of stay. No apology offered. No hot drinks in bar as machine not working for first night of reservation. They don't have a kettle apparently and again, could not care less in their attitude. Incorrect dinner order received on second night. Was replaced and taken of bill after complaint. If you want a room with no heating, a TV with a remote that doesn't work, a restaurant with staff that don't care and a menu which changes at last minute with heavily restricted choices; in a busy chain hotel environment with a daily charge for parking, a service charge on food and drinks and a completely unorganised environment thenlook no further, the DoubleTree Coventry is for you. Nice interior though.... Collapse
