I stayed here for 8-9 days and the stay was perfect. The hotel has a great location near the Bo-Kaap and walking distance to many major tourist sites in Cape Town and a complimentary shuttle to the V&A waterfront. Even before I checked in, I was emailed by the Hotel's Journey Ambassadors to see if I had any special needs or assitance--I asked if they could arrange my transfer from the airport to the Hilton which they did and that was a huge time saver for me and made the trip much more enjoyable from the beginning. The staff were incredibly friendly and caring. Since I was staying longer and am Hilton Gold, they gave me a much larger room which was nice but the view wasn't great. I asked that since I am staying longer I would like a nicer view if a room was available--within 30 minutes I got a call from the front desk and they had a room ready for me to move to. Before moving they asked if I wanted to see the room first, which I agreed to, and loved it--had a phenominal view of Signal Hill and a partial view of Table Mountain!!! The staff at Hilton Cape Town were very kind a courteous, greeting me daily, asking how I was doing and if there is anything they could do to make my stay better. They bent-over-backwards to make me feel warm and welcome and took care of my every question and assisted with the best service and quality. I highly recommend staying here at the Hilton Cape Town City Centre and plan on staying here when I return next year. Collapse

This was such a beautiful hotel in such a great location. I had some trepidation about booking a hotel outside the V&A waterfront area, as most people I know told me, as do most reviews, that if you don’t stay at V&A, don’t bother staying anywhere. I for one disagree with this assertion, but will caveat this by saying that I am a top-tier Diamond member with Hilton, so it would take some pretty heavy convincing for me to choose otherwise. With that said, this hotel knows how to treat Diamond members, and from the moment of check in to the moment of check out, they could not have gone out of their way any further to recognize my status and take care of me the way every Hilton property should take care of their Diamond members. We were upgraded to a one- bedroom suite by the ever friendly and efficient manager on duty that morning, whose name I unfortunately do not remember, but she was the embodiment of what a Hilton manager should be. Nothing was too much trouble for her and no request too menial for her to handle, and handle with grace and speed. The room was functional, beautiful and overlooking Bo-Kaap, with its brightly colored houses, not to mention the killer view of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head from the 7th floor windows. Separate living room off the bedroom had a TV, couch and sofa, as well as a ½ bath and bar area. Master bathroom was nice; however, privacy could be an issue if you were traveling with family members or friends, as the smoked glass wall and door separating the bedroom and the bathroom did not offer complete privacy, but this wasn’t an issue for us, as we were traveling for our anniversary. On our last night, hotel staff left us chocolates, and sprinkled the bed with rose petals, which was a really nice touch. Parts of the hotel are still undergoing renovation, but the restaurant off the lobby had just re-opened and the breakfast was excellent. Though not your typical Hilton standard breakfast due to the lack of bacon and other pork products, they seemed to make up for this with some very non-traditional Hilton breakfast items that you would only find in South Africa, my absolute favorite being the minced beef and also the local pancakes, which were so delicious and unlike any pancakes I have ever had. Many of the staff at the restaurant were new and in training, but they did a commendable job and were so friendly and helpful. The executive lounge on the other hand was a bit dark, depressing and dated, which is why they are currently in the process of building a new one, but the drink and food selection was adequate and the service from the young ladies there perfect. Hours for the lounge were also very generous by Hilton standards, and though they don’t serve alcohol in the restaurant downstairs, they do serve it in the lounge and in the outside bar/hookah lounge just off the executive lounge. Concierge at this property was amazing, and offered to book our Table Mountain tickets for us in advance so we didn’t have to wait in line. All we had to do was give him our credit card info and he booked them online and printed out the tickets for us, which saved us a loooong wait in line. He also gave us great advice for driving down to Cape of Good Hope/Cape Point and also great information for driving out to Franschhoek and the wine country, both full day trips that are a must, especially since renting a car here is cheap, effortless and driving is very disciplined. We spent some time at the V&A Waterfront and though it was nice and there was some good shopping and restaurants, it was a bit touristy and I personally don’t feel that this place is what “makes” Cape Town. There were a couple of good restaurants that were a 5-minute walk from the Hilton. We liked Burger and Lobster and also the tapa’s place next to it. Bo-Kaap was a very interesting neighborhood, and we felt very safe there. There was a nice craft shop just behind the hotel, a liquor store across the street (the only place you can buy any alcohol in SA outside of a bar/restaurant), and a couple of small ethnic grocery stores. We used the small Somali grocery store across from the hotel to change money, having been recommended by the concierge, and they gave the best exchange rate for $USD (within R200 of the mid-day bank rate) compared to the exchange places, which were a rip off. Yes, credit cards are accepted just about everywhere, but it’s nice to have some cash just in case. All in all, I would come back to this hotel in a heartbeat, and would choose it any day over the V&A Waterfront, which many say is walking distance but I beg to differ. Hotel does offer a free shuttle to V&A but it only runs till sundown. Table Mountain and Lion’s head though are straight up the road that the hotel is on – about a 10-minute drive. Parking was available in the basement of the hotel and was reasonably priced. Wi-Fi was excellent through the hotel and of course free for all Hilton Hhonors members. Collapse
