Gold members need to be (sadly) assertive

We have selected this hotel based on its Hilton francise, the location in the countryside, executive lounge and 3 hrs drive from London, good for 3 nights family break. If you see my other Hilton reviews we usually travel in the busy school holidays however an upgrade or at least access to a lounge thanks to the Gold membership has not been an issue. As we eat big lunch during the day - in the evening it is nice just to have a snack and a drink to chill in the more private place before our child bed time. Lounges are great for what we need at this point in life. However for the first time ever we have been denied the access. We got a voucher for one drink each but it was not offered automatically - only after I could not hide my astonishment. We do not like noisy bars with a footbal on the big screens. We were told to enquire on the next day as it was to be less busy. So we did - here was when the reception lady has really crossed the line with her condescending attitude and I ended up escalating poor customer service to the duty manager who has acted professionally. To his credit - if not him - we would have left this property as we were made feeling super uncomfortable by the reception encounters. Eventually we got an access to the lounge that second evening and it was not at all packed, following day had just 3 tables taken. We felt humiliated by this experience and felt like an annoyance rather than "valued member" in other Hiltons. It is a shame as should this not be a Hilton franchise, we would have chosen different property as we are not into football. Now to the positives: - it is quiet inside and outside - bar/ breakfast staff very friendly - both walk in shower and bathtub in the bathroom - good quality towels and bedding - clean and fresh in all areas - plenty of parking - aircon in a good order, window opens a bit - Eastern view to the fields is lovely and unobstructed - spa and treatments very good Dear management- great facilities need to be matched by making the guests feel welcome, this also applies to the ones who have more stays within the Hilton franchise and acquired some benefits worth honouring to endure their continuous loyalty. We prefer true hospitality in an average property (eg Hilton Strasbourg) over rigid rules and lack of flexibility in a great new property you have. Collapse

You will not be disappointed by the outstanding quality of this hotel. Friendly efficient staff. Set in a quiet location just outside the village of Barton. This hotel offers everything you could wish for.

The staff are always friendly here, if you leave something expect a run around with no positive outcome ( the trick is not to leave anything;). Online checkin is the same as checkin on arrival as you still have to que and go through the same process. The food in the bar is mixed, if you order a curry it seems microwaved but if you order pizza it seems fresh. The rooms are nice although don't expect the F1 channel to work. If you like a full English breakfast it's good but if you just want a coffee and cereal it's very expensive. Overall a ok hotel but it does have its faults, if you expect these then you stay will be enjoyable, if you don't you are likely to be disappointed Collapse

We only stayed one night, and were upgraded to an Executive Room. This provides access to the Executive Lounge, unfortunately this is only open 6-8pm, it would have been nice to use it on arrival rather than just before we were due to head out to a family dinner. Maybe afternoon tea is a better option (3-5pm). The room was large and quiet. The bathroom had a separate shower cubicle. The design of the bathroom was nice, but at times it seemed functionality lost out to form, for example, to shut off the tap at the sink you have to put your hand through the water (waterfall-type tap) and water goes everywhere. It does take a long time to drive up the winding, speed-restricted road to the hotel, a little frustrating for someone who can get a tad impatient at times. On the whole a lovely stay and I would not hesitate to stay again. Collapse
