We booked to attend the Xmas Casino Royale night. The whole experience was fantastic. We used the pool and spa facilities in the afternoon which was very relaxing. The evening meal was one of the best xmas dinners I've experienced at a 'mass' do. Breakfast was also excellent and you never know who you might meet. Bumping into an exercise class when exiting the lift was a surprise. Especially at 8 a.m on a Sunday morning! Collapse

We booked at this Hilton more on the basis of location relative to Alton Towers and the fact I could use some points for a family stay on a quiet Sunday night in July - however the hotel delivered over and above what we'd expect from a UK Hilton and we'd actively choose to stay here again if in the area. It's definitely a modern, contemporary hotel and a little isolated given it lies at the heart of St George's Park which is the HQ of all the FA England football teams so don't expect small, boutique cuteness or country pubs on your doorstep but the hotel has good facilities - like the pool and spa - that kept us occupied and plenty of football related memorabilia to keep our 9 year old son interested. Also, given it's a chain hotel that isn't selling itself on high-class dining, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food - from the nibbles and wine in the executive lounge area, through a nice dinner and an excellent breakfast selection I can't find much to fault (plus kids eat free if you're dining). I'm not saying you should necessarily make a special trip here for a meal but if you're staying then it's a more than ok place to eat at and I don't often say that about Hiltons or, to be fair, any other chains like Holiday Inn, Ibis etc. All the staff we met we're very helpful and went that extra bit further to make it seem like they actually wanted you there rather than seeing you as a necessary evil which I've come across at some hotels I've stayed at - including plenty that would rate themselves significantly above this one... Overall a very pleasant stay given we'd originally targeted it simply as a convenient stopover en-route to Alton Towers from our home on the South Coast. We'd be happy to have an excuse for a return visit - sure we'll come up with something! Collapse

I have stayed at this hotel previously and basically it does what it says on the packet. It is a large contempory hotel but I find that it is lacking in any sort of character. Everything is big and very clean but absolutely no atmosphere. The rooms are good, as are the beds and shower and facilities but to me it lacks the wow factor. Breakfast was very good and varied, but once again the restaurant is very plain. It obviously caters for lots of sporting events and teams and is absolutely ideal for this with a large reception and excellent gym/ spa facilities so anyone wanting this would be really pleased. However I would not recommend this hotel for an girly break! We ended up eating at the nearest local pub to try to find some atmosphere, but even the nearest one cost £12.00 each way in taxis. We had a coffee in the starbucks in the hotel, it was really cold when it was served, and when I went back to the counter to mention this there were no staff around - we waited 20 minutes but no one came and finally the reception staff were kind enough to give us vouchers for a free coffee the next day, however on returning back to the hotel after going out for a meal we were more than a little surprised to see our old coffee cups still on the table where we had left them 4 hours earlier. I would imagine that possibly the coffee shop is run as a franchise and therefore the hotel are not responsible for this, but it doesn't reflect very well. Collapse

This place is pitched as top end but it's over priced and for a vegetarian, which isn't that rare in 2017, it's awful. I was there for lunch today and this small 3 inch bowl was the only vegetarian option. There were about 5 other options that were all meat, all the deserts contained gelatine and the only soup was chicken. I had to ask about all of the foods as nothing was labelled also. I was here yesterday and had the same experience. A member of staff asked the chef about one dish, he walked out, said it was Pork and walked off, not a single other word. Just to add to the Hilton experience, outside the front entrance there are 12 disabled blue badge parking bays, all of which had cars which had no blue badges. I informed staff about this and by the next day nothing was done and another 12 non-disabled cars in the spaces. Sends out an awful message to disabled people. Collapse

Stayed there recently, 7 & 8 July 2017, solo traveler, had booked a suite on the second floor. All good, to my greatest disappointment all 3 sets of windows were noticeably full of haze and fingerprints on the inside whilst needing cleaning also on the outside. I notified the reception in writing, my notice was completely ignored. Wanting to save my time, I had to do the cleaning myself, the filth was so big, I guess they had not cleaned them for a long time!!! And why should they? Having grabbed the cost of the stay £400, no need to bother!! Very obviously the guarantee make it right is just crap!!! Collapse

The hotel is set in the 300+ acres of grounds and is attached to the national England football training centre. Even if you are not a football fan, the setting is interesting and the grounds worth a stroll around. The hotel itself is modern, with a football theme running through it. The staff were all welcoming and efficient, the rooms are fitted out in a contemporary decor and are extremely spacious with large bathrooms, (particularly good showers) and large comfortable beds. When we stayed the hotel guests were mainly either conference delegates, (several conferences on at once), or football teams with a couple of youth teams staying at the hotel. We didn't have dinner at the hotel but the breakfast was very good. The hotel also has decent speed free wi-fi and a very well equiped gym. By far the nicest Hilton I have stayed at and would thoroughly recommend. Collapse
