We had reserved a shuttle for 2 to pick us up at the airport by contacting the concierge a few days prior to arriving. I wasn't sure what to expect from what they described as a "shuttle express" but thought it would be a good choice after researching the taxi situation from the airport. It is only available on the hour so we did have to wait a bit. As we exited the baggage claim/customs area the information desk is to the left - which is where we were told we would be met. Well.... our shuttle ended up being a very nice Mercedes for just the two of us! This was a great way to start off our stay in Bucharest! It was a 10 PM pickup so there was not a lot of traffic into the city. We arrived at the hotel and checked in quickly. We were recognized as gold members and given a letter identifying our perks while staying at the hotel. Julia gave us a card with her name on it in order to contact her is we had any issues settling in. The hotel also participated in the "Make It Right" plan where if there were any problems I assumed they would make it right. We did not have any issues. We were upgraded to a King Junior Suite on the 5th floor just a few doors down from the Executive Lounge. That was very convenient. The room had a nice closet area as you entered the room on the left and a suitcase shelf on the right. Just beyond that there was the living room area with a nice welcome treat and to the right the bedroom and bathroom. We were looking forward to a view toward the city but had a courtyard view instead. The executive lounge had a nice view to the city and square and a small balcony to get some fresh air. We were also upgraded to premium wi-fi and that seemed fine for us - only had cell phones with us because of flying through Istanbul we did not bring anything other electronics. The TV swiveled between the bedroom area and the living area and had sufficient english channels for us to watch news, etc. The bathroom was good sized and the tub not too deep as some we have experienced in Hiltons in Europe. The bed was a little firm but fine. They did provide extra pillows that we requested the next day. Housekeeping did a nice job. The desk and the dresser did show a little wear on the top of each but other than that the room was fine. We ate breakfast in the lounge twice and ordered an omelette each on one of the mornings. It arrived pretty quickly and was quite good. There was a reasonable selection of breakfast food available too. The evening offerings were usually good and had a selection of three hot dishes, small salads, veggies, deserts, etc. It was never too busy as we could always find a spot for the two of us. The other two mornings we ate breakfast in Roberto's (included as gold members). Much larger selection of everything. Easter morning it was quite busy. The other morning not so much. I was able to order an omelette and the chef was helpful in selecting some ingredients and had a good sense of humor. All staff we encountered were polite, helpful, etc. Old town is a short walk away with lots to see. We also used the subway one day which is a short walk away toward Piata Romana. The street Calea Victoriei in front of the hotel was closed off for Easter. There were lots of vendors and was quite a promenade. Unfortunately Easter Sunday and Monday most things were closed. Checkout at 9 AM was quick as we had prepaid and only had a charge for the airport shuttle upon arrival. We rented a car across the street for the next part of our trip up to Transylvania. We did return for one night - separate review to follow. We would love to return to Romania and would definitely choose Hilton again! Collapse

celebrating it centennial this year, the Athenee palace is evoking the same feeling of grandeur today as it always did. properly located next to the Royal Palace and the Atheneum concert hall, this old lady is the genuine grand hotel of the Romanian capital. it has a majestic foyer ornate with marble columns, very spacious rooms and generous breakfast. what's very nice about it is the fact, that its opulence is restrained. so it's elegant - but not eye-popping: the real, old school elegance, not nouveau-riche. it's concierges are probably the best you can ask for, and the whole staff is extremely courteous and helpful. chapeau! Up to Hilton Standards, great location - Beware of erroneous mini bar charges

I stay at Hilton properties fairly often and this one was up to their international standards. The hotel is in a historic building and the lobby is quite nice. There is a newer building which is the one I stayed in so the rooms were the cookie cutter Hilton layout (which is A OK and one reason I stay at Hilton). The rooms in the historic building if facing down the main street have a better view. I requested quite so the newer building facing a side street provided that. The location is great and puts you in walking distance of the old town (~ 20 minutes) as well as several others points of interest very close to the hotel. There were two erroneous mini bar charges on my bill which they removed without question, nonetheless this shouldn't happen. Once is an honest mistake, twice - either someone is not doing their job or someone is trying to rip me off. My room was clean, comfortable and quite. The carpet seemed slightly worn and there was bit of mold in the shower but nothing horrible. They did provide a universal electrical adapter which was nice. As is common in Hilton's it is a big step up into the bathtub. Not an issue for me but if you are mobility impaired it could be a challenge. Collapse

We enjoyed our room, but the spa was not such a pleasant experience. The general public can also come here and it was too crowded as a result. Seemed a but dirty and not what we expected at a luxury hotel. I stayed here for business in April 2016 as well and enjoyed my limited time in the hotel. Great location for business or tourism.
