I only had two days to see as much of Barcelona as possible. I started off by getting one of the tour buses around the city which gave me the opportunity of earmarking the sites I wanted to see and of glancing at the others. The tour buses are really easy to find and for 26 euros you could hop on and off for two days. I went on a gondolina around the harbour which was a nice way to cool down and enjoy some of the coast again fairly good value at 10 euros for 1.5 hours. I found shopping just to tempting and set off to find my weakness shoes. If you go off the beaten track there are some excellant bargains to be had and don't forget to haggle it's expected. I would say my favourite thing was the Fat Tyre bike tour a four hour guided ride around the sites excellant value at 22 euros and great fun. Don't do it in the day though it would be far to hot. I recommend going on the 7pm tour when it is much cooler though those with children might find the 11pm end a little late. I would recommend Barcelona to anyone. If I had one critisism it would be that things can be a little expensive, if you pay with to larger a note for anything but particularly a meal change is very slow in coming or they just assume the change is the tip. Also keep a close eye on your bags/wallet/mobile phones etc if they are not secure you will lose them. However, I lost nothing and gained a lovely break. The world is a book those who do not travel read only one page (don't know who said it but it really is true). Collapse

The HCC Mountblanc is a nice property but lacking some amenities and attention to details that could enhance one's stay and take it to another level. 1) Towels were old and could be refreshed with newer/softer ones and add wash cloths to the mix of towels. There were none provided. :( 2) No tissues in the bathroom provided and only one small bar of soap to be shared between the sink and shower. :( 3) Hotel mentions pool towel service but not available. Was told to use room towels. :( 4) Restaurant at breakfast hours full of tables that have not been cleared from previous guests. More than once we had to wait for tables to be cleared and plates to be added to the buffet line. Appears only one person handling everything. Not very welcoming first thing in the morning. :( 5) Instead of calling a taxi for us, we were told to walk a couple of blocks to a taxi queue that might be quicker. :( A lot of potential if they can take it to another level with attention to detail and adding simple and low-cost amenities. after a long journey and greeted by terrible weather, we didn't want to go out and decided to get a snack from the bar at the hotel. Though there is food advertised in the bar menu, it's only served when the kitchen is open which means you either have to wait or go out. We decided to wait and eventually got something, which was disappointing when it arrived. So my advice, don't be lazy like us and brace the elements! The hotel itself was clean and a little bland, the staff really pleasant but overall disappointing for us Collapse

We asked the front desk to call us a cab. They told us to go get one on the street. We asked the front desk for pool towels. They told us to use the towels in the room. They would not even get us an extra set. Even though the hotel directory says free pool towel service. The rooms come with one tiny bar of soap to share between shower and sink. There are no wash cloths, just hand and bath towels. The sink and tub are old and stained. No lock on bathroom door. The bed pillows are substandard. There are three English channels on tv: CNN international, British SkyNews, and CNBC. Whenever you turn on the tv, the volume is set to ear shattering. The breakfast service has dried up scrambled eggs after 9, even though it runs 7-11am. The bacon seems boiled instead of fried, the sausages are cut up hot dog pieces that stick to the pan. I would not recommend this hotel to my least favorite friend. Worse than motel 6. Collapse

I stayed in Montblanc overnight in preparation for a tour i was taking in Barclona in the morning. I took the train in from Madrid and got off at the Barcelona-Sants train exit. It was about a 12 minute/10 Euro cab ride from the station to the hotel so not bad. The hotel is located within walking distance to many bars, restaurants and little stores for snacks. The hotel also a piano bar and small restaurant but I didn't try it. It looked very nice just didnt have time. The lobby is very chic and modern. It made me think it was new or recently remodeled. Bright colors and art as well shiny new floors and counters. Check-in was pretty easy and both of the concierge members spoke English to assist me in checking which I was grateful for since my Spanish leaves a lot to be desired. I was booked in Room 300 which is a standard room with 2 twin beds. The room was very small, even by European standards. I think more than 2 people in this room, even parents and a small child would be cramped. It was fine for me but if you need some space, upgrade your room or switch hotels. The rooms looked old but well cared for. The beds, floors, walls, and all of the furniture was well maintained and clean but it's clear any renovation budget was not allocated to the rooms. The bathroom shower/tub combo was a good size. The toilet is weirdly close to and is facing the sink. As in you can sit on the toilet and wash your hands in the sink. Not a big deal but a bit awkward. I demoted the hotel to "average" because of the beds. There is nothing like sleeping in your own bed so no hotel can really come close but a general rule of thumb is that the hotel should try to give a good rest experience. These beds are like the same mattresses they put in dorm rooms for college students or maybe prisoners. They were so hard and uncomfortable. You get one mostly flat pillow and a thin comforter. It was not my favorite night of sleep ever. Honestly the hotel could be a 4 if they just change out the mattresses. I don't consider myself a difficult traveler a lot of things I can let slide but a horrible bed is a not one of those things. Hotels primary functions are someplace to sleep and someplace to shower and failing at one really makes it hard to want to stay. Overall, the hotel is liveable. I imagine a great many people will be fine here. The quietness of the floors, cleanliness of the rooms and location make it acceptable but there are likely better hotels for comparable prices in the same area. Collapse
