You would think booking a room at Hartsfield Manor would include accommodation within an actual Manor House, as the online pictures would have you believe. The clue is in the title, right? Wrong! We actually stayed in a 70's style outbuilding adjacent to the Manor House in what felt like freshers week at university. Our room, although clean and tidy, had tired and worn fixtures and fittings with paper thin walls. We could hear everything in the rooms next door and corridor outside - day and night. Turns out the neighbours had an annoying habit of going to the bathroom throughout the night. If I wanted to book a room which had a TV with a picture fuzzier than my eyesight on a hangover, and a window view of an electricity pole instead of rolling countryside...then why on earth did I choose a grand looking country Manor for our Surrey retreat? Granted...£99 for one night isn't the most expensive, and yes the hotel is clearly advertised as 3*, but there's no way this was worth the money or what I was expecting. Having felt cheated, I raised this with a member of reception staff. He didn't seem overly bothered stating he couldn't tell me if there was a difference in price for a room in the actual Manor as "the rates fluctuate", but the 'annexe' was supposedly stated in the booking process. Yes, there it was in the smaller print..but definitely not well advertised! If booking.com hadn't been plastered with pictures of the Manor (and included just one of our not-so-attractive 70s building) then I wouldn't have felt so cheated. On a positive note, the actual Manor House looked very nice, the grounds were superb and I'm sure it would have had lovely countryside views. If only we'd stayed there.... Collapse

I have stayed at a few de vere hotels but am not sure why they put their name to this one. On arrival reception not manned and after a wait we were checked in. Receptionist was pretty poor and took ages trying to find our booking. Eventually went to our room on second floor. A pretty steep climb and the second floor is up a narrow staircase and the carpet has seen better days. Our room absolutely stank and the bed was a large single at best. So back to reception only to discover two others had checked in and refused the room. Receptionist excuse was rooms that are block booked might be for one person.....eh? She then got quite surly and was most unhelpful. We asked for the manager and after a long battle got another room in the annexe area despite receptionist insisting they only had one single. This bed was marginally bigger and took up most of the room! But at least it didn't smell. Tried to have a drink in the bar but it didnt open until 530 and there was no where else to get a drink. The barman was as surly as the receptionist so didnt really create a chrismassy atmosphere! Food was ok although a set meal we asked for coffee and were told to get it from a coffee station. I asked if we could have it at our table and we were told we would have to pay. Back in our room the bed was dreadful the mattress useless and we left after breakfast and quite frankly wish we had paid for a cab home....dreadful de vere truly dreadful. Send in a team, redecorate stop selling singles as doubles and train your staff in customer service. Truly thought we had wandered in to faulty towers. If you're planning a stay if you're given room 32...run! Collapse

Just awful! Service was appalling. we had to double check everything from start to finish and tell staff how to do the job. Receptionist was very unhelpful. Room service took 2 hours and was stone cold. They tried to close bar early, even though they had agreed otherwise. Took 3 weeks and email to GM to get group booking sorted. Double charged. Kicked us out of breakfast room whilst still eating!! Don't believe the 'early check in available'. Such a shame because it's a fantastic location and building. Collapse

I booked a large table for afternoon tea, to celebrate my birthday at the end of October. I went with a group of 10 mummy and babies all only around 4 months old, and all of us living in the local area. I booked the table through Robyn Hanson, the Conference & Events Co-Ordinator. I had great communication with her, and kept reminding her we would need lots of space for our push chairs. When we arrived we couldn't believe we had a huge beautiful room all to ourselves. With sofas as well as a large circular table. The staff were attentive and we never felt rushed, we could of stayed there all day. The food was great value for money and very yummy. We had so much food left over, and was given small boxes to take the left overs home. Once again thank you for such a special day. Could not have asked for anything more. Unfortunately none of us stayed at the hotel so can only comment on food. Collapse
