This hotel was like a step back in time and not in a niche retro way. Everything about it was sad and dated. The room was an okay size but it was not a good first impressive to open the door to a stained carpet, stained bed linen and furniture that looked at least 15 years old. The bathroom again was very dated and in desperate need of being gutted and replaced. In addition to this the sink taps barely dribbled even when fully opened and when the shower was in use it produced a foul smell that I could not even describe. The bed was very uncomfortable and I had a poor night's sleep. I had breakfast included with my booking which again was rather dissapointing. It was buffet set up which is great as you can pick and choose. The hot food was unfortunately only just warm and in some cases cold and was of pretty poor quality. No sooner had we sat down to eat than we were informed that if we wanted anything else we should get it now as they wanted to clear everything away. This was at 10.30am. Breakfast was stated to be served until 11am, this is not good service. This was a cheap hotel so I don't expect luxury but I really felt like I'd wasted my money. I would 100% never stay here again. In my role I travel the world, to even the poorest 3rd world countries, but I have never stayed in an hotel as appalling as Harben House Hotel!! Their website states the hotel is being refurbished but that is just an excuse for a poorly run hotel. From shabby rooms to raw chicken in the restaurant there are no redeeming features. When I stayed there were only 12 other guests which is hardly surprising!!! Collapse

Stayed here for 2 nights, as we had a conference to attend. Went up to our room, (no mention of the building works and heater not working.) Total shock at the size of the room. So small, bed against the wall. My husband had booked the room, just came up as a double...not a tiny can hardly get in the room double. Luckily there was a huge window, so my claustrophobia didnt kick in. Can see why there is a lounge area downstairs, bedroom not a comfortable place to watch tv. Walls are paper thin though, could hear the man next door's conversation to his wife each evening. (unless he spoke very loudly) Asked about the room size the next day, and was told all rooms are that size apart from 4 which are family rooms. That seems a bit odd to me. Not sure what size the bed is but its not a double, as i couldnt turn over without hitting my husband. So had 2 very poor nights sleep. As bed was against the wall only 1 bedside shelf and that had the phone on so not much use. Heating consisted of a small heater that you had to plug in, glad really as if the heater that was actually on the wall was working it would have made the room a sauna. Only 2 tea and 2 coffee sachet...luckily i always take my own as places never have de-caff. Wish i had taken showergel/shampoo. I tend not to these days as all premier inns and travelodges have huge dispensers on the walls. Just one very small bottle here, i suppose i could have asked for more. Toilet paper leaved a lot to be desired too, didnt know they made paper that thin. Not sure what was going on the 2 nights we stayed, room doors banging till 1am. Bit annoying. Laundry cleaning service arriving at 7.30 on a sunday morning also a bit annoyi Over all, a pleasant stay, no outside noise as its of the main road. Room didnt smell even of cleaning materials which was a bonus, just a shame the room was so small. Dont know if the refurb will make the rooms bigger as we would like to stay again as its close to where our daughter lives, But if they stay the same size we will stay else where. Collapse

Upon arrival the staff at reception were very helpful, corteous and made you feel very welcome. It was a three night stay for a couples weekend event and the staff were always available to lend a helping hand. The food was good and very tasteful. We appreciate the fact that there were a lot of repairs/renovations going on at the time so only a few lifts were working. The main one malfunctioned most of the time and we had to use the stairs. The room was quite decent though they were small. Thanks to Maria King, our liaison person while the event was being organised for making sure everything was in place for the occasion. Thanks to the staff at reception, Rose, Kate and Tanya for being so corteous and helpful Thanks to Ben the duty manager for his assistance and attending to our every need Special thanks to Barney, who waited on us most the time and served us tirelessly Collapse
