This beautifully decorated Hampton Inn is just steps away from the St. Charles Streetcar line. There are three couples in our group who are going on a cruise today. We picked this hotel because of it's location in the Garden District and the easy access to the St. Charles Streetcar line. We purchased six JazzyPasses so that we could ride an unlimited time during our stay. Go online to purchase ahead of time. With Priority Mail shipping we spent $10 each. We came in Thursday, had Friday and Saturday to see some sites, and are boarding the Norwegian Dawn this morning for a 7 day cruise to the western Caribbean. The hotel personnel are lovely; especially Dawn. I had called back in May to get some information and when we checked in she was on the desk. What's great is that she remembered me! Another reason we chose this hotel is because you can leave your car here while you are on a cruise. If you stay one night before or after your cruise, it qualifies you to use their parking lot which is directly behind the hotel and fenced in. They give you a parking card to hang on your rear view mirror. Check with them about the daily parking fee. Dawn honored the "free" parking which was published at the time I made our reservations back in May of 2016. I guess it does pay to book ahead!! Another plus is that Dawn was very knowledgeable about the transportation from the hotel to the dock. She booked transportation for us with a vehicle large enough to carry six adults with two suitcases each. The fee is about $7 per person. The breakfast here is the standard Hampton Inn hot breakfast which alternates daily with eggs, sausage, hash brown, cheese omelets, breakfast pizza. They always have hot oatmeal, fruit, cold cereals, yogurt, boiled eggs, many juices, milk, and of course coffee. (The only disappointment I had was that the coffee was not hot enough at times, especially in the evening.) They have a variety of tea bags as well. The seating is abundant with a variety of different sized tables. It is also warm enough to sit outside most of the year near the pool area. Each room has a mini refrigerator with microwave. There is limited storage so we did not unpack. The king size economy has a chaise lounge with small table that is extremely comfortable. There is a desk with an adjustable chair and a roll around hassock that can be used for additional seating if needed. We had a corner room which had the hanging space behind a drapery, which I found very unusual, but useful enough. I would DEFINITELY BOOK THIS HOTEL AGAIN! Feel free to ask questions about things I did not cover. We enjoyed our stay here so much that I hate to leave, but our cruise is beckoning! Collapse

Best Place to Stay in Uptown New Orleans

We have stayed in several different hotels in New Orleans (the French Quarter, the Central Business District, Uptown) and the Hampton Inn located in Uptown New Orleans is our favorite place to stay. It is located on St. Charles Avenue so public transportation is right outside your front door with the streetcar. Self-service, off-street parking is located on the Hampton property behind the hotel in a lighted, fenced lot that deters trespassers. Like all Hampton Inns this one offers many complimentary services: the long, narrow lap pool, breakfast in their beautiful lobby, fresh fruit, and a coffee and tea bar. The receptionists have always been extremely polite and helpful with questions. Although there are no valets, check-in & check-out are easy thanks to a small circular drive at the front entrance and the back exit. As a woman in my sixties, I feel very secure staying here by myself because the elevator will not operate without a room "key". I don't like being alone in the back parking lot at night unless I can park close to the building. (I don't worry when I'm with my husband although in New Orleans one needs to be aware of your surroundings at all times). If I need a bite to eat at night, I'm very comfortable walking alone to the Superior Grill that is two doors down. It's a high quality Mexican restaurant and bar that holds the current bragging rights for best Margarita in New Orleans. If a Saints or LSU game are being televised at the bar, the crowd can be overwhelming. Those are the times I order my meal (& my Margarita) to go & take it back to my room. It really is the best place to stay if you don't want to stay in the French Quarter! Collapse
