Nice hotel with great location

Most things were very OK, and the beds were very nice. No noise from outside even when the room was facing the street in front of the station. We were missing some shelves to put things on. Mediocre breakfast quality.

Stayed one night for concert at Metro Arena. Great location- just across the road from the train station, 10 minutes’ walk to venue and close to shops. Room was large and comfortable. The door to the bathroom is very heavy- can’t see a child managing. A lot quieter than I expected but we did ask for a quiet room. Breakfast was plentiful. Wouldn’t say it was piping hot but it was quiet so probably not being replenished very often. Staff were welcoming. About what I expected for the price and would use again. Collapse

I stayed for two separate two night business trips. Staff were friendly and helpful, with check in/out being very quick and painless. -Location- I arrived in Newcastle by train, and happily discovered that the hotel was literally across the road from the train station. A 10-15 minute walk takes you to the shopping center, and there are plenty of restaurants/takeaways far closer than that. -Room- The room was nice, with a comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom. Wifi was faster than I expected, I was even able to stream Netflix (in standard definition) without interruption. The shower didn't quite go as hot as I would have liked, and the shower head was dirty both of the two rooms I stayed in (I just cleaned it myself, though I'm sure if I'd asked the hotel would have done it for me). I could hear an occasional burst of static from the shared wall - possibly when my neighbor turned on their TV - which was irritating, but didn't keep me awake. -Breakfast- Tasty and plentiful. There was plenty of options - cereals, porridge, toast, pastries, cooked food, and even a waffle maker. I would have liked black pudding with my breakfast, but I was happy with the choices all the same. -Gym- Small and basic, but adequate. Unfortunate that there is no pool. Collapse

Great hotel!. Conveniently located in the centre & directly opposite the train station. We were also able to park at the station which was handy. Everything was walking distance from the hotel for a good night out. We had 3 family rooms booked & then added a fourth room on the morning of travel for the birthday boy, his wife and baby daughter. The hotel was very accommodating in getting this arranged & also provided a sleeping cot for the baby as requested. As it was easter bank holiday weekend, upon check-in it was very busy, the queue was long but all the staff were helpful & all the staff visible were helping. Reece & Samantha well done & thank-you. The rooms for our party were all on the 6th floor, spectacular views of the city from the rooms. Easy access up & down the hotel with the easy to use lift. In total we had 4 family rooms, each had a comfy double bed & a pull out sofa bed. Good lighting & a full length mirror. A few more hangers would be good (only 3 in the room). When we were ready to go to the party, the hotel ordered us 2 taxis, funny because we were going to the same location 1 taxi charged £2.60 the other £5.60. Think the hotel need to review the taxi firm they use. Good to see security at the entrance door during earlier hours when we returned at 4:30am. He checked our details before letting us get in the lift. Breakfast was served between 7-11am on the 2nd floor. Buffet style hot food, self serve waffle making machine, fruit, cereals, fresh juice tea & coffee machines (I didn't like the orange juice, waters down & bitter). I asked for vegetarian sausages as I couldn't see any in the trays, they were made to order & were delicious. I did not see any eggs being served? The strange thing was the fact that we waiting a very long time for baked beans to be replenished. A big cluster off people were waiting for the same thing. As the food is all in a separate room to where the dining area is, it was getting congested because of this delay. Check out was seamless. It was a great place to stay, everyone enjoyed themselves @ the 30th Birthday party which was the reason for our stay. Will be back .... soon. Collapse

Perhaps staying in a city centre hotel on a bank holiday weekend was never going to be the quietest of destinations- and so it proved. From the rambunctious stag and hen party guests to the false fire alarm at 4 am there was plenty of ' excitement' Having said that , I must admit that the hotel knows its business and its clientele well and is extremely well organised. Security is tight - reception , bar and breakfast are on the second floor and you need a dedicated room key to access the rooms on any higher floor. The room itself was well designed. -the safe , hairdryer, air conditioning and hospitality tray were provided, and the space well thought out. What was in the bathroom however, was a used towel from the previous guest lying wetly on the floor. The waste paper bin the bedroom had not been emptied. And the safe had a nervous breakdown and refused to close. As previously stated the staff were very efficient and within moments of these problems being reported to reception all were dealt with. We went out for the evening and on returning found there were a number of loud guests in nearby rooms. Sleep eventually came although there seemed to be a drunken argument going on in either the corridor or the adjoining room at abuot 2 am. I didn't really want to find out which. It was the fire alarm at 4 am which was the real problem- not only a siren but a recorded voice shouting repeatedly that ' This is a fire alarm.please leave the building by then nearest possible exit'- Thankfully it was indeed a false alarm. Breakfast the next morning was interesting . No one asked for a room number. -I can only assume that everyone is entitled to breakfast . No one showed us ( or anyone else ) to a table. One simply went into the buffet room , helped oneself to the food - the usual hot and cold buffet selection- found a table and ate. The range of food was adequate - the hot buffet consisting of sausage, beans , tinned mushroom , hash browns , and scrambled egg. The next morning bacon and boiled eggs were also available. I would not have said the hot food was the most appetising - some sausages seemed to have been cooked several hours before. However , the fruit , cereals etc were indeed good, so I suppose one should take the best of what is on offer . The coffee was excellent - probably the best cappuchino I have ever had in any hotel , anywhere . Sunday mornings breakfast was better in that there was a staff member finding a table for you - and fielding the two guests who decided that it was a good idea to come to breakfast in slippers. Sadly this discussion , whilst pleasantly resolved , took place above my head and took rather longer than necessary . Kudos to the staff member for tact. Saturday night had been quieter than Friday , Sunday breakfast more pleasant and check out fast and efficient. Between Saturday and Sunday the towels had been changed but I am not sure that anything else had been tidied or cleaned. So would I stay there again ? Certainly the staff were very helpful ; but unfortunately first impressions count . I would use that brand of hotel, again but for future trips to Newcastle I may look further afield. Collapse
