A recent visit to Bristol having arrived in the evening and making my way from Bristol Temple Meads station I was looking forward to my stay. Check in was swift and fairly standard, upon entering my room I realised there were two single beds though I had booked and paid for a Queen. I decided I would go downstairs and grab some dinner and before doing so ask reception what happened to my booking. The person who checked me in started looking on the system when the duty manager jumped in, had a quick glance at the booking system and plainly stated sorry there was an error with the system and we do not have any rooms left. This was a matter of fact statement with an insincere apology, it came across to me as a tough luck your stuck now attitude. Upon asking further what happened it was explained the system had incorrectly shown Queen rooms where there were none. Upon further query why my booking was not rejected I was informed as my booking was through corporate travel agent it sometimes takes a long while for this to be pi led up by the hotel. At this point I thought there is no point talking any further as no genuine apology for the hotels mistake would be forthcoming, I would like to emphasize I booked and paid for one thing however given something else, this is not what I paid for and is unacceptable to not even receive a sincere apology. Fresh salmon and smoked salmon are not the same though they are at its core the same thing, I think you understand my point. To be fair checkout was very pleasant and breakfast nice, I think the customer service element is a problem particularly with the duty manager. Collapse

Having driven past Bristol far too many times, we decided that it was a 'must do' on the list and after perusing the reviews on TripAdvisor, we settled on the Hampton by Hilton... What a good choice! We got in late (after 10pm) on Sunday evening after the 4 hour plus drive and parked up without any problem at the NCP car park literally next door (yes, they are not cheap, but the 25% hotel discount eased the blow). Booking in was easy and we made or way to our room through what is a very clean and modern looking building. Then we hit our first problem...although smoking is not permitted, clearly an earlier guest had been at it, which had left that tell-tale, stale smell that never seems to leave, no matter how much febreeze you might use. A quick call to reception had us returning to them and they immediately re-homed us in a very nice, large room that overlooked the pleasant square at the rear of the hotel, along with a voucher for 2 complimentary drinks at the hotel bar..Nice touch! The room was great (drinks were too) and after a good nights rest, we discovered how good the breakfast was too! Buffet service, with an amazing choice of foods (Hot/Cold, Trad/Continental, etc) with absolutely no restriction on what you might eat or how much you wanted to eat, all fresh and replenished frequently. Our second (& final) problem surfaced when we got up to shower... the wet room shower trap was in need of cleaning and did not drain properly. After paddling around and managing the mini flooding by turning the water flow off when soaping up, we reported it to reception and they had it all done by the time we got back - great efficiency! We had a full day around Bristol (which is big, so didn't see it all) and fancied a trip to Bath next day, so asked advice from the hotel reception (same lass who had sorted our room). I was thinking of taking the Train? However, her advice was to take the bus, which was much cheaper, ran a 10 minute service, from the Bus Station that was just 5 mins walk away AND.. also pointed out that the Day Tickets that we would have would then allow us to travel around other parts of the City when when returned from Bath...SPOT ON! :-) I can't fault this hotel or it's staff and it's recent reviews regarding all the points I've just highlighted are very accurate - Oh yes,..I would/will definitely stay with them again!
