Hampshire Hotel - The Manor Amsterdam
4 4 Star:
The Hampshire Hotel - The Manor Amsterdam is situated in a unique building in Amsterdam-Oost: the former Burgerziekenhuis (hospital). This historic building on the Linnaeusstraat was renovated in 2011 into a trendy hotel with luxury rooms and its own Italian restaurant, Enoteca. The hotel is easy to reach by car or public transport. And by tram, bus or bike, you’ll be right in the centre of the city in 7 minutes.
For true Italian enjoyment you can visit our restaurant, Enoteca. The Head Chef makes the most delicious fresh pastas, antipasto misto and traditional fish and meat dishes with a little twist. The menu is offered digitally (tablet) or traditionally (menu). There are no fewer than 25 Italian wines to order by the glass from the wine menu. Breakfast is also served in Enoteca, With a wide choice of fresh dishes and a perfect cappuccino or latte macchiato.
The Hampshire Hotel - The Manor Amsterdam is in the middle of Amsterdam-Oost, the up-and-coming city district. In recent years many great restaurants, cafés and other hotspots have arrived. You can walk easily to Oosterpark from the hotel, where there are regular festivals and other events. The multi-cultural Dappermarkt is also within walking distance. You can also, of course, hire a bicycle to explore the area.

We specifically requested a "quiet room" and were place on the 1st story in the back with a lovely view of a green courtyard. Our concierge told us the building was originally a hospital. There rooms are not huge but have plenty of room and are well organized with shelves/ledges which made it easy to unpack. We enjoyed not being in the center of the city and being near a lovely park. The tram stops are only 1/2 block away and so it was super easy to travel any place within the city. The staff ar very friendly and helpful. They seem to genuinely want you to enjoy your stay. The receptionist was nice and friendly. My room was on the ground floor and facing the street so we can hear footsteps and pedestrians talking outside. It didn't bother me much because I'm a heavy sleeper. The area around the hotel is pretty convenient to find places to eat, drink and smoke. There's also some convenience shop and a laundry right across the hotel. I got the room for 3 pax and the size of the room was huge. I love the decor. The bed was comfortable. There was no bathtub though, only shower. There's a mini fridge which I like, although was not stocked with beverages, only one mineral water. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. The location is slightly out of the central part of the city. But I kinda like that as the atmosphere is more laid-back. It's not too far away though, and you can easily get around from here because the tram stops just in front of the hotel! Collapse

It is a pleasant area next to a large park and with lots of attractive places nearby for eating and having a good drink. The service was friendly and diligent - we always felt very well attended with our needs and questions. The room was well equipped and offered a pleasant atmosphere, we felt absolutely comfortable. On our next trips to Amsterdam (and we will sure come back to this great city) we will choose this hotel again and we will recommend it to our friends. Collapse

I stayed at this hotel on my own for a long weekend. Born and raised in Amsterdam I try to stay in or near my old neighbourhood in Amsterdam East (Oost). I recall when I lived there The Manor was an old hospital and always admired the building when cycling into town. When my usual hotels were fully booked I decided to give The Manor a go and I wasn't disappointed. The staff upon arrival were lovely and the checkin extremely quick. The hotel has a fantastic Amsterdam theme and the three crosses are everywhere, bit too much for some but I loved it. The room was great, very spacious, huge bed, lovely bathroom. Everything I needed and even a tv attached to the bed that could swivel round, fab. My room was at the back of the hotel and there was no noise what so ever had a great night sleep all weekend. The hotel's location is great, the area has improved so much since I lived there and there's so much to do. Fantastic restaurants and pubs, a little shopping centre and you're a five minutes walk from the Tropenmuseum and a few tram stops from the zoo. Speaking of trams, the tram 9 practically stops outside the hotel and that will take you into the city centre within 10minutes. But if you're a real Amsterdammer like me you like to cycle. This hotel cater for that, you can rent bikes at the hotel for I think €12.50 for 12 hours. Perfect! If you're looking for a good hotel close to the city centre and a nice area this is definitely one I would recommend. Collapse

Decent sized room. Very clean. Comfortable large bed. Had a room on the side of the hotel which was quiet. Had to wait a while to check in with no acknowledgement that we were waiting. Classy bar with outside seating area. Ate in Enoteca, interesting menu plus pizzas - unfortunately they had run out of pizza dough one night. Waiting staff are lovely. Drinks are pricey, but no more than other large hotels. Nice to sit on the front terrace and watch the world go by. Right near the tram stop so great access to all the sites. You can buy tram tickets at the hotel. We've stayed in hotels recently with frosted glass doors into the bathroom that have gap round them - bad idea - turn the bathroom light on at night and is very bright into the bedroom - poor trend that hotels should stop, otherwise good bathroom. Decent free internet. Collapse
