Cramped in a small pigeon hole

It's such a shame that a hotel with such a nice location and really nice facilities, restaurant etc has such cramped single rooms. The rooms are size of a shoebox with hardly any space to walk. The bathroom being so small that you struggle to take shower or go to the loo. One is constantly banging into walls or objects in the room because of the cramped size. Never lived in a hotel room this small. What could have been a great experience turned out to be ordinary. If this was around £60-70 I might have been okay with it but after paying £125/night one expects a better room. Collapse
Good location but low quality

We (a group of 14 couples) stayed for 3 nihgts on Eden - the ***side of this Hampshire-hotelcomplex which has a splendid location nera Rembrant.square. Due to ongoing renovation-works all acorridors etc, were quite dusty etc. but the rooms itself were quit clean. The roons (eg. 344-350) were quite small and poor equipped: no fridge or mini-bar, no hooks for moist trenchcoats, no hooks for used towels (we got a new setevery morning...!!) which is not understandable today. Very little space for ladies necessities in bathroom, Seems that the designer is not a traveller. Fortunately the concierge was very professional and helpful. Breakfast ok. Collapse
Good location, low cleanliness standards

I would not recommend staying here, since for the price you can really get something better. If we would not have prepaid everything (we were there for a conference and one of the sponsors had a special rate here), we would have definitely changed hotels. The hotel is in a great location near Rembrandt square, most of the staff is friendly and they have a really good buffet which goes way beyond the traditional Continental breakfast, which are the only nice things I can say about my stay. Upon checkin we were told we had to wait till 3 pm to check in and had to freshen up in the bathroom after a long transcontinental flight, since there are not facilities in the hotel. Then we we arrived at 3 pm sharp, we were told our room was still not ready. Finally we were given another room about half an hour later. When we looked at the photos on line it gave us a very different impression of the size of the room and the only thing I can say is they must have really used a good fish eye lens, because the rooms are small, really small. They are also dirty. When we arrived to the room it had not been dusted or vacuumed properly. I contacted the front desk asking for someone in house keeping to tidy up my room. I was told by Esther that the floors were stained, that there was no way they could be cleaned and that if I wanted they could give me some slippers (which I used religiously during my stay). I asked them if they could anyways please vacuum the room again. Then someone from the hotel came to my room (I think it was Esther) and refused to acknowledge the state of the room. She told be that because it was a 500 room hotel, "cleaning efficiency" meant it could not be cleaned as throughly. I could not believe it, size of a hotel should not hinder having good cleaning practices. Finally I had to go on my knees and start showing her the crumbs and things on the floor that could be cleaned to convince her to send me someone from housekeeping to vacuum the room. Finally someone came and vacuumed the room with a few sweeps missing most of the places that needed cleaning. I finally just asked him if I could vacuum the room myself. I also asked him for a rag to remove a green thing which looked like wilted lettuce on the wall which made him clean other dubious spots on the wall. I proceeded to clean all the nooks and corners on the room, including the curtains and ledges... it was amazing just hearing the vacuum suck up all the dirt and how much dust this little room had accumulated. This is the first time in my life I clean a hotel room, another travel story to add to my travel log! I stayed in room number 147. It was very quiet till the weekend arrived. For two nights (Friday and Saturday) I got very little sleep, with people screaming in the middle of the night as they passed through the little street the room looks out to. Also, there are no toiletries in the room. Only towels and a liquid shampoo/body soap in the shower and a liquid hand soap to wash your hands, so if after this review you still want or have to stay here, make sure to bring your own toiletries. This hotel is really in a need for renovation and for its size should hire more cleaning staff. It would seem this is the modus operandi of the chain, since another friend attending the conference was staying at the American hotel from the same group and also complained of the cleanliness of the room and the horribly soiled carpets. The hallways at this hotel are filled with carts with mattresses, towels and linens. During my stay I had to insist that my room be cleaned daily and still did not get the daily housekeeping done. I will definitely take this chain of the list of chains I will want to stay at in the future and would discourage anyone who is concerned about staying a clean place to choose this hotel. From my stay I can tell the Hampshire Eden/Hampshire Rembrandt (the two hotels are connected and share the same staff) does not really care about cleanliness and that it is not a high priority on their list. Also double check anything to do with excursion costs. We ended up paying double for a taxi to the Keukenhof Gardens, as what was quoted, was apparently only one way. This was definitely not what we understood. Collapse

Just ok for the price. Location on the central inner canal was great, but we had a standard room, and had a "view" of the back alley instead. No coffee maker in the room! What is up with that? Ive NEVER been in a hotel ANYWHERE that cost 160 a night , and had no coffee in room or lobby for free. You could buy a continental breakfast for 1O Euros, no thanks. No matter when you arrive, (we arrived at 1:30 pm,) there is no way you are getting into your room until after 3 pm. There was a whole room FULL of luggage where the concierge stored our stuff. Im not a clean freak, but I dont think the floor was swept the entire time we were there, garbage cans were emptied. The location makes up for alot, since you could get a great breakfast around the corner in Rembrandt square at L"Opera restaurant- we ate there several times during our 6 day stay. The front desk staff were helpful in calling our prearranged Tinker Travel cab when I couldnt get my phone to work. I probably would not stay here again, despite the location. Collapse
