For the price the overall package was excellent value for money. We got overnight stay, breakfast, use of spa centre/fitness club and airport car parking for £99 (for two people) however although the hotel was clean it does need some updating, for example the hinges were broken on the wardrobe door so it wouldn't shut and the tiles in the bathroom had been painted rather than replaced. For an overnight stay the room was satisfactory but i wouldn't recommend for a luxury short break. The staff were great, everything was very efficient and the spa was lovely but i have to be honest and say we wouldn't go again unless it was renovated (but then the price would probably increase as a result and we couldn't afford it :o) Collapse

Stayed here as a stop off before going on holiday thankfully, as if I had booked this for a short getaway id be gutted. Arrived at the hotel and thought it looked lovely and was excited for a bit of luxury before going away. The reception area is nice however the receptionist was abrupt and didn’t even give us basic details such as what time check out is, where the restaurant and the pool is etc. We went to the room in the dodgy lift that door doesn’t close properly and were pretty underwhelmed the bed was comfy as was the chair however the temperature of the room was ridiculous I am normally a cold person but the room was like a furnace. There was no air con which I was shocked at for a four star hotel in 2017! I found a fan in the cupboard and slept with that on the whole night id rather listen to the fan all night than be too hot to sleep. Now for the worst bit the so called leisure centre. I had really been looking forwards to this. We eventually found it, you have to come out of the hotel to access it which is fine we walked in there was a counter but no one there to explain anything there was signs up saying temporary changing rooms we tried to follow these but weren’t sure where to go there was no one to ask but we found another also lost couple and we explored up the stairs and there was 2 rooms with men’s and women’s on the door the room was carpeted with a table there and loads of rubbish on the floor i.e lot of cling film and paper if I’d had my phone I’d have taken pictures to show how dirty it was! We then had the task of finding the pool we decided to take our stuff but my partner and the other girls partner left theirs. We had to walk through the gym in our swim wear to access the pool. The pool area was clean but no where near the luxury I expected. We didn’t stay here long as this wasn’t the relaxing experience I was lead to believe it would be. We then found the “wet changing rooms” these were old unclean grim communal rooms with no privacy what so ever. I had my things with me from earlier as I left my belongings on the pool side. I quickly got changed in the open with my partner holding a towel round me then I had to find the room where I was earlier getting changed to go get my partners belongings from the men’s next door. As otherwise he would have to go up the carpeted dirty stairs and i dread to think what his bare feet would look like after that. We went back to the room but couldn’t bare the heat so spent the evening at the pub across the road. So disappointing and a bad start to a holiday! Will definitely avoid from now on and tell others to do the same. Collapse

I just stayed overnight for the airport. That meant I did not experience all the hotel's features: e.g. I left early so did not get the breakfast. But the room was fine and I did not note the negatives found in some other reviews. Spacious room, decent bedding, fully operational bathroom. Rooms must vary, I guess. Hotel does not have much character, but it was fine for the one night, and I'd use it again for the airport. Collapse

This is the first time I’ve left a review on a hotel and I’ve stopped at many many top hotels. I felt so strongly about this hotel, that I’ve made this review. We arrived at what looked like a lovely hotel. Nice external appearance and reception was modern. Staff were very helpful, although very understaffed. As soon as we walked into the corridors and our room, it was an immediate disappointment. Very dingy, dull and extremely run down. It looks like there has been no money spent on them in many years. I was completely shocked that this had been given 4 stars, as 2 stars would have been more appropriate and realistic. The room certainly wasn’t clean and the windows were old, rusty and let a lot of cold air in. Next was the biggest disappointment of all. We went to the spa to begin relaxing, prior to our trip abroad, and after walking around a complete dump, looking for the change rooms, which were disgusting to put it politely. No privacy, run down, messy and, we walked straight back out. I understand the change rooms were being refurbished, but if adequate alternative change rooms cannot be provided(which they certainly weren’t) then they should be closed until the work is complete. Me and my wife were so disappointed, we sat in our room and contemplated going home or finding another hotel. If we were staying for anymore than 1 night we would have left immediately. Worst hotel we’ve ever visited. When a hotel is rated as 4 stars, you expect luxury. Other than the reception and restaurant, it’s far from 4 stars. Collapse

We organised a Christmas Lunch for our association, wth 60 attending we had an excellent room with mainly 8 members per table. The three staff members were brilliant, nothing to much trouble. The food, three course then mince pies and coffee accompanied with wine was beautifully presented, the food was hot and very tasty. There was no rush between the courses, but as soon as the table was ready the staff cleared and then presented the next course. Great afternoon, and only praise from our members. Many thanks for the hard work to all the staff at the Hallmark. Collapse

This hotel is going downhill - fast! It used to be 'the' place to go. We've been to a few Christmas Parties here and in general the food has been acceptable. However, last Friday we felt very badly let down. The starter (prawn/salmon) was v watery and tasteless. The turkey was ..... ok. The best part of the meal was the cheesecake. No coffee. We had pre ordered four vegetarian meals. The vegetable soup was watered down and tasted of pepper! The main course was a butternut squash tart, which three diners reported was v nice. However, most people had finished eating by the time the fourth person received their main course - a pile of rice in a pastry case! I had a word with with one of the managers, who apologised and said that many people had changed their minds on the night and opted for the vegetarian option. Well we had pre ordered our four, so I was not impressed with this. She did offer a complimentary drink and a mushroom pasta dish off the hotel menu. However, even though this looked nice when it arrived, the moment had passed and the person declined the meal - it is awkward eating when everyone else had finished half an hour ago. Our evening started late as many people seemed to arrive late. Not fair for the ones who had made it on time! Maybe they had got stuck in the chaos of the carpark? The music was v loud but the dj played some good records. However, I wish the hotel could stop folk going onto the dance floor with bottles and glasses - I saw two ladies with cut feet, after dancing without their shoes on. The dance floor was too small for the number of people they were catering for. My advice - choose another venue, even if it means spending a little bit more. We had a good night in the end but let down badly by the low cost meal which was placed in front of us. Dreadful. Collapse
