I organised a 40th birthday party for my husband and it was fantastice! The suite we used was beautiful and I have nothing but praise for the staff especially Cassandra who handled the booking and ensured everything needed on the day was in place and her colleagues Carla and Jacob were also very helpful. My husband had a blast and all the guests had nothing but praise. Collapse

The hotel is undergoing much needed renovations. Staying on the second floor should be avoided if you don't want to be woken by construction noise on the third floor. The main income of the hotel appears to come from its function rooms, which are consistently booked. Drunken party goers are rarely kept in line by hotel security and police had to be called to shut things down at 4 am on one particularly bad night during the car park was littered with broken glass and cars covered in beer. In fairness, the hotel paid for cars to be cleaned - but who wants that? Last night revellers were running up and down corridors shouting and drinking - and, by the smell of things, smoking dope. OK, the hotel can't control the quality of all its guests, but what about the things it can control? I was placed into a refurbished room which looked ok. Barely any water pressure in the newly equipped bathroom. Air spluttering out. The staff knew full well, with one member saying 'oh, you must be in the 400's' ... all the rooms in the 400 section have terrible water pressure. The reception staff are as helpful as they can be under the circumstances, but they must know that those rooms are not truly refurbished while they are sorting out their ancient plumbing system. I was moved to another room in another section. Better water pressure in a, predictably, tired looking room. No ventilation in bathroom - I'm sure this must be illegal. Fan doesn't operate and bathroom fogs up and remains damp. Carpets are tired and not always too clean. Too many years of grime. Lifts are rickety and cramped. Restaurant runs out of items with almost comic regularity. At breakfast an entire jug of warm orange juice was put out on the serving station. It hadn't just 'warmed up'. It was a full jug, never before refrigerated, just slung out amongst the barely serviced area. This was only at 9 .30 AM when full breakfast should be available. There was NO hot food at all on the buffet. Embarrassed staff opened a cold carton of juice from the bar. This hotel reeks of 1960's sub standard British hotels and its problems appear to stem from mismanagement and total lack of forethought. Pathetic. Collapse

My friend and I attended a Ladies Day event at this hotel on Saturday and it was excellent. I had not heard of this hotel before and read some not-so-kind reviews before coming, so was a little apprehensive, well all that disappeared as soon as we drove in and entered the venue. We were greeted by the organiser of the event in the reception and because we were a little early she escorted us to the brasserie to join some other Ladies that were also early, we all agreed that the hotel itself was quaint and beautiful. I took the opportunity to explore their lovely well kept gardens and was pleasantly surprise how large it was. When it was time we were escorted to the Princess suite where the event took place and can I tell you, the room was stunning, we were served Afternoon Tea, the service, sandwiches, cakes and scones were again excellent; thank you to the Chef. Natasha, Bernadette and the team could not do enough for us and nothing was too much trouble. We had the best time and looking forward to visiting the hotel again in the near future, i will be recommending this hotel for events that my workplace are planning and from the conversations I had with some of the other Ladies they will be recommending the hotel too. Having recently stay overnight I'm glad it wasn't longer. The rooms are clean but the bathroom was appalling, there was mould everywhere. There is no way would you have a bath. There was black ingrained mould between the tiles, around the bath, the taps and the floor it was one of the most disgusting bathrooms I have seen!!! The hotel may look appealing from the outside but definitely not on the inside. There is building work going on at present and the noise in the room was horrendous from the drilling and hammering which lasted till 6.30pm then started again at 8am!!! Nobody apologised!!! My husband has a blue badge and unfortunately there is only one disabled parking space, he popped out for 15mins and on he's return a car was parked in the disabled bay with no blue badge, he told the receptionist and she said ' well the car park will be empty about midnight so you can park there then' great attitude to take. This hotel needs to be avoided or at least be very cheap to stay, definitely don't warrant £72!!!! Collapse

This hotel has undergone recent upgrades, according to the management. True enough, the bathrooms are quite reasonable to look at. The trouble starts when you try and turn a tap on. Air splutters from the faucet. The flow is so low that it cannot effectively allow the sink to be cleaned after use. The exotic shower fittings provide a huge rainfall shower head and and a microphone type hand held. Only trouble is, the water barely flows from either. I asked whether there had been any complaints. I was told no. And then, after a moment's thought, yes. There had been- and engineers had worked on it - to typical 1960s British standards. The manager walked us through several rooms, optimistically - only to have his confidence dashed when he turned on the taps and saw air spluttering out. A 4 star hotel should at least be able to allow guests to shower. They've invested in showers and sinks and infinite mirrors and tiles. Not plumbing. No fridge. Tired, chipped paintwork in the hallways. Drab carpets. And bar was out of tomato juice. It's just a traditional, second rate, British hotel, masquerading as a 4 star. What were the AA thinking. Staff pleasant enough- just hampered by appalling decisions from above. Collapse
