I had to spend the day there as my wife went to a meeting in London - relaxing to work in and very good lunch of fish and chips - and an odd glass of wine! Collapse

We booked through Great Little Breaks. Brilliant offer including dinner on the first night. Well worth taking. Small hotel 18 bedrooms. Excellent service from the moment we walked in the door. Homemade biscuits (to die for) in a tin in the room. Two apples. Good selection of tea and coffee plus bottled water. Beautiful room. Original features of this country manor. Modern shower room though, we had room 7. Only problems with the shower room was lack of hot water, it was tepid. No frosting on the window so had to have the blind down the whole time for privacy. The loo wouldn't flush properly. Nice White Company toiletries. Huge sleigh bed which was brilliant. Anyone who reads my reviews knows I like a super king. This was bigger. Very comfortable. Loads of cushions and two seats to relax. Not much in the way of drawers to store our clothes. The furniture was more decorative than purposeful. Lack of shelving in the shower room too. Had no where to put our wash bags and the coffee station took up the dressing table. Lovely real fire welcomes you in the entrance hall. There was a gas fire on in the bar/lounge. I put lounge as it was one step away from being in a bed and breakfast. Very quirky but lovely. Now the food. Amazing! Tasty, well presented and the offer was worth it just for the meal. We had a bottle of wine included too. The meal would have cost £37 a head on its own. Very very good. Now my last complaint. The extractor to the kitchen is attached to the building. The hotel is horseshoe shaped and it's in the enclosed middle section. Across the hall from room 7. It was on all night. We didn't get much sleep. We asked the following day and it can't be switched off. Though they hadn't turned it down. We had to ring down at 11pm the next night to get the MM to turn it down as they forgot again. It's not just the noise it vibrates through the floor and hence our bed. Breakfast was cooked to order. Service was chaotic. No real routine in place so you were either missed or asked four times. Set up grab rails in the kitchen so you can see who has ordered what. Then move order down when you clear between courses. Worked in my hotel a treat. But again food was amazing. Served 4 rashers of bacon, way too much. Would rather have two and two sausages. Loads of choice (after getting a menu on the second day) homemade pancakes, smoked salmon, full English etc. Good quality ingredients. Usual juices, cereals and fruit. Lovely setting. Walking distance of the small town and an Indian restaurant for the second night called Spice. See review. Would go again, spent the day in Woburn. Another good meal had there too. Well placed for exploring antique shops. Go and enjoy this culinary treat. Collapse

I weird one this. A very nice old Manor house, modified somewhat. The welcome was ok, The food very good indeed and very good breakfast too. It was very very quiet here, not too many rooms in use I guess. My room was spacious with a decent en-suite shower, although a bit mouldy I'm afraid. The room had a shockingly poor carpet, so dirty and stained. They should be ashamed to let a room in this state. I good steam clean would probably sort it. My night was kind of ruined (NOT ANY FAULT OF THE HOTEL), when it came to my attention that the place was supposedly haunted. I made the mistake of looking it up on google and watching a TV piece from the 90's about it. Needless to say, I has a dreadful sleep, too quite (I need white noise) no A/C of course and the windows would not open. I had to switch off the heating to try and compensate. I have to say that the bed WAS comfortable. In summary, I would recommend this if you like old Manor Houses, if not, then don't bother. Collapse
