We stayed overnight at this hotel as part of a Cosmos Tour. Our room was located on the ground floor tucked in a corner not far from reception. the room assigned to us was claustrophobic with a thin narrow window and very little natural light, the shower was so small we didn't even give it a go. Our room was one of three tucked in a corner on the ground floor not far from reception. It seemed to us that this had once been a larger space and divided up to make more money. Had we been staying longer we would have protested and asked to be moved. Our room had a mirror, our neighbour's didn't but they had a safe - we didn't. Someone else in our group had a fridge full of someone else's food when they arrived - we didn't have a fridge in our room at all. One of our group had an enormous bathroom but when he took a shower all the water flowed all over the floor and out the door. The lounge chairs were all soaking wet - obviously pool goers availing themselves of the comfy seats in their wet togs. The buffet dinner and breakfast were the only redeeming feature of this hotel. Our group of more than 40 were all pleased to move on from here. Collapse
PROBLEM? DO NOT EXPECT ANY HELP FROM TRIPADVISOR - THEY ARE USELESS

**This review is about how Tripadvisor is either powerless to help you if you have any complications with your reservation or simply does not care. All of the staff (other than the front desk) at Hacienda del Sol are absolutely wonderful** In January of 2017 we booked a standard room with a queen size bed ($276 for 2 nights) for the first 2 nights of our 14 day tour of Spain at the Hacienda del Sol in August of 2017. We picked this hotel because my wife had been there last year and raved about it, especially the second floor rooms & views of the ocean. At check in we were instructed our room was downstairs. Since the property is on the edge of a hill I was thinking it might be a garden type of layout. After walking into a darkened hallway and finding our room, I was less than happy to see 2 twin beds & the only windows in our room were at the top of the wall, at ground level. My wife's native speaking Spanish skills got us nowhere with the hotel management. My call to Tripadvisor results in their telling me there is nothing they can do. I press them to try something and I am then advised that they have no access to the hotel staff but will have to go through their "business partner", please hold. (international cell phone rates being charged to me) 10 Minutes later I am advised that whoever the business partner is, they cannot do anything to help me. Really? An 8 month old reservation carries no sense of importance? Well, maybe they can do something. They will call me back in 15 minutes. To their credit they did call back. They could not do anything for at least 14 days and wanted to review my complaint that "the room was dirty & the plumbing didn't work" WHAT??? I never said anything like that, I review my concerns which are then met with silence. Hello? It will be 14 days before they can help me. (another 30 minutes on the cell at international rates) Well, we got back to the US 2 days ago, that's over 14 days since my complaint, no contact, no email, no phone call. Didn't have to deal with this crap in of the other places we stayed at on this trip. I have never had to complain on any other trips I've booked in the US or abroad. We will not be using Tripadvisor any more, not that it really matters to them. We will make sure anyone we talk to about travel is told about our experience and to NOT USE TRIPADVISOR. Collapse

The hotel is situated on a hill just below the town Mijas which is beautiful old town with lovely walks around the town and fantastic restaurants over looking the views!! The hotel was simple and obviously under refurbishment! The food was ok but when you eat out you realise how bad it is! Our air con was rubbish in the room and broke down for a couple of days, upon telling reception, their response was very unhelpful to say the least! It's definitely not a child hotel, they get bored! There are also coach loads that get dropped off in the evening and practically take over the swimming pool and restaurant in the evenings and mornings! The rooms are clean and tidy, swimming pool is large and there was a crazy golf course but couldn't be used as needs some serious maintenance as does the tennis courts! To sum up it's ok for a couple only holiday for a week anything over that and you get bored! It's clean and the foods ok! Collapse

We are a family with 2 adults and 3 kids. We slept here for one week in August 2017. Positive: - Nice service from the reception. - Good breakfast with a lot of different food to choose from. - Clean room. - Nice pool area. Negative: - Very far away from everything. You cannot walk to Mijas or Fuengirola, and not to shops or restaurants. I would advise you to rent a car. - Not enough parking places for all guests with a car. - Not enough sun beds for all guests at the pool area. People occupy sunbeds in the morning and leave the area for hours with their towels on the sun beds. The hotel should have a system to avoid this. - Mold stains in the bathroom. I guess this is because there is no ventilation when guests aren't ising the room. We left the room every day with a card in the card holder so the electricity was on to run the ventilation. The hotel maid took that card away every day so the ventilation stopped. - Small room for a family. No usable floor area or chairs when all beds were fixed. - Beds were not comfortable; hard to sleep on. - Noise outside the room and outside the hotel were loud also in the room. - the doors to the rooms seemed they had never been lubed. Very high squeeking sounds every time someone opened their door - it also woke me up at night some times. This hotel gives me an impression that it once upon a time has been a very good hotel, and they still have potential - but they do not do as well as they could do. Now I SEE that I have listed a lot of negative things, but all in all it was OK. But not a 4 star hotel. Collapse

After 2 previous great holidays here we were a little worried after reading some recent reviews after the take over from the owning family. NO NEED !! everything is just the same as before. Average food, little choice, basic bedrooms, however the pool/sun bathing areas and the nights on the outside bar/terrace area are just perfect. At best 3 star but still worth a visit. The staff are great and very helpful. They do need more sunbeds and more bar staff though !! Not really sure what makes this place so special. We understand that they are stopping the all-inclusive option - big mistake if they do. As the location is between Mijas and Fuengirola there are not many bars or restaurants near in the area so you really need to use the local bus service. Mijas is a lovely old white painted town with super open spaces, shops and lots of nice restaurants. If they do stop the all-inclusive we doubt we will return. Collapse
