Looked at the reviews and got worried but the holiday was great the staff were exceptional very friendly and great at their jobs talk to them all have English food was good alot of choice always found nice food to eat and enjoy its not an English restaurant so get on with you knockers pool a little small but spoke to families who said they could always see their children and beach is a 200m walk if I could change anything it would be the entertainment very kids orientated and then not great after. Had a great holiday would go again in a heart beat. Collapse

Had a fabulous week here , I was a bit sceptical after reading some of the reviews but I needn't have been. We were all inclusive and that lasted until midnight. You can also use your all inclusive card at the other H top hotels both in Calella and elsewhere, they provide a bus to take you to the other h top hotels ( if you pre book the night before ) you can also your AI card at the bar on the beach to obtain a discount Food: really good, lots of Spanish food and good to suit all palates. Nice table clothed restaurant with linen napkins Staff: very friendly and accommodating Entertainment: not great tbh but we spent our evenings outside chatting around the pool Rooms: very nice, decent air con position, very central , few yards from the beach and the main You MUST head to the Alcatraz google it , it's just up the road and turn left (it's an English bar which I normally hate on holiday ) but if you like a proper English breakfast like my son does then it's great. Also at night they have great karaoke Negatives Pool area not big enough for the size of the hotel therefore not enough sun beds. We did usually manage to get them (eventually ) Snack bar was within the restaurant and fairly limited but you didn't really need to use it as the food at lunch/dinner was fabulous I will definitely go here again Collapse

The hotel is beautiful, the food is absolutely fine there was always something to eat! It did get a bit boring but the town of Callella is filled with fantastic little eateries and it was nice to occasionally pop out and give a little into the local community. The staff are all very friendly (except the lunch and dinner maitre de who occasionally came across as a tad frosty!) Pool area is small with about 20 sunbeds, 20 tables and about 6 parasols!!!!! All of the hotel is kept clean and tidy by the housekeeping team (despite the efforts of some guests to make mess!) Bar 26 and Top Bar are well worth a visit. Collapse
I was surprised- positive way

So after reviewing the ghastly H-Top Calella Palace hotel, we decided to head back to Calella because we love the place. We took a big gamble on staying at the Amaika, and it paid off. The hotel is far better than the other H-tops in the area. We had the "Fully inclusive " package. The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean and spacious, thick walls so you can't hear next door farting. The food - plenty of variety, if your a veggie ( like my wife & kids) then the restaurant manager will ask the cook to cook only veggies dishes for your stay- and it worked. The drinks are none- branded I.e a Baileys drink will there own version- which will do. If you want branded then you have to pay - also with cocktails. The pool is small usually filled with younger children. The beach and the main shopping area is 5 mins walk- perfect. Would I stay here again... yeah. Good value for money. Collapse
Better than expected!!

Having read some of the reviews I was a little concerned about staying here but I was pleasantly surprised. Location - Cannot fault this. 5 minutes stroll to the beach. 2 minute walk to shops, bars and restaurants (if you fancy a meal out). Train station to Barcelona is 10 minute walk. Reception - Check in was very quick and easy. We always found the staff helpful and polite. Room - Clean & bright. Only slight criticism was it was two single beds pushed together. Would have liked a double bed! Room was made up every day with fresh towels when ever you needed them. Small balcony with table and 2 chairs. The balcony railing didn't meet the ground leaving a little gap which was not at all dangerous but as I'm afraid of heights it made me feel a little uneasy. Bar - The staff were very friendly and professional and all spoke good English with the exception of the older guy. He really needs a course in customer service!! If taking drinks to the pool area your drinks are served in plastic containers. Entertainment - The in house staff were great at entertaining the kids with a mini disco most nights before the "star turn" came on. In the main the entertainment was not great quality (with the exception of the magician who was a barman at the hotel) I can only assume they wanted people to go out and not drink the All Inclusive drinks. We managed to stick it out most night with the exception of the nights they had Spanish singers. The guy with the keyboard was awful and even bought some couples with him who pretended to be residents and were up dancing all night - didn't see them before or after that night!!! Food - I have stayed at a number of All Inclusive hotels. This one would be one of the better ones. The hotel caters for a number of different nationalities and the selection of food reflected this. A good select of salad and cold meats. Not all the food was to my taste but there was always something I liked. There is a cooking station where a chef would cook meat or fish fresh in front of you (pancakes and eggs at breakfast). Every day I saw guests with full plates of food. There were no reports of upset stomachs during our stay. If you are looking for British food only then this hotel is not for you. However, if you are willing to try different types of food then you won't go hungry. As for the restaurant manager who is at the main door of the restaurant, I found him to be a little frosty at first, but if you talk to him and engage with him he is really quite funny. All in all we really enjoyed our stay here. We had a really relaxing time and if we were to return to Calella would stay here again without hesitation. Collapse
