We booked this for a 4 night city break. It proved to be a good base. It was just a couple of minutes walk from Retiro park, which is beautiful, and no more than a 5 minute walk to the Madrid City Tour Bus Stop. We ate in the hotel once and that was Ok, but the service was a bit slow. The room was clean. We looked out over the front street - bit odd that it had only one chair and would benefit from another (Room 103). Breakfasts were good with a decent choice of food. The rooftop bar on the 8th floor was probably the best bit - lovely for a pre or post dinner drink, but quite tight on space, so people weren't guaranteed a seat and were sometimes turned away. A lot of restaurants within easy walking distance. Collapse

This hotel is in a great location and has fantastic facilities (rooftop bar and pool is to die for!) but unfortunately the service really lets it down. If you are hoping to make use of the roof terrace during your stay, you may as well not bother. Firstly, there are only 6 sunbeds in a hotel with hundreds of rooms that during the summer must get fully booked. People wait from around 8am to get these sunbeds, and if you are not in the queue you will stand no chance later in the day. What makes it worse is that throughout the day people leave their belongings to 'reserve' the very few beds, or spend 90% of their time in the pool - and so the beds can't be used by anyone else. This system really needs monitoring. Sunbeds aside, you can use the chairs and sit by the tables on the terrace which is still pleasant. Our main issue was getting served at any point in the day. There is a really unclear system up on the terrace where certain customers are having drinks hand delivered to their sunbeds, while others queue for 20 minutes at the bar. Often, the bar is entirely unmanned and there is no one available to speak to and no other place to order a drink up there. When you are eventually served, the staff are not at all apologetic and we found them to be quite rude - they often acted as though they were too busy to help us. At one point there were no towels left on the terrace (which are provided for guests) and we had to wait half an hour before a member of staff was around to ask, when we asked them it was another 15 mins before they bought anything up. All this aside, we were optimistic to go up to the terrace in the evening and try dinner and drinks up there. At this point it went from bad to worse - we got up to the terrace and there was a physical barrier up at the entrance with a couple of people queuing, we were stuck in a small (very hot) corridor and no one was acknowledging anyone waiting. All the staff were rushing around serving tables but there was several we could see that were free. When someone eventually came over they told us it would be a 20 - 50 min wait, so we decided we would go and eat in town. As we left we saw a group of girls come up who had not booked and were immediately given a table. Just to add - at no point during our check in had anyone advised we would need to book to eat at the terrace. We did speak to the staff at reception during our stay about the situation, who booked us a table for the following night where we had a nice dinner and drinks, but service was still extremely slow throughout. Overall, this hotel could be massively improved in our opinion with some extra staff and some staff training! Also a note, as a h10 member its great to receive a welcome note in the room offering a free cocktail on arrival - despite the card actually stating 'cocktail' at the bar we were told we could only choose from house wine or beer! Wouldn't usually leave such a negative review like this (as there were good points about the hotel) but honestly if you are considering visiting here to really make use of the rooftop terrace and bar, you are better off looking at alternatives. Stayed here on a Voyage Privé package and was very impressed. It's a 4* hotel, a very good one in my opinion. The lounge and bar areas are very tastefully furnished with lots of vintage pieces. They have a nice bar area where you can also order food. We had the bolognaise and the croquettes-both delicious. The room we had (508) was nice. It had a massive comfortable bed, flat screen wall mounted TV with a couple of English news channels and a small minibar fridge with a bit of room in it to put a few things of your own. There is an easy to use safe and plenty of wardrobe space too. The air conditioning works well too. The bathroom was clean and modern and the toiletries were more than adequate, much more variety than I've seen in other hotels of the same class. Our room looked out on to the street which was part of the package we booked (a room with a view and a glass of champagne on arrival). One of the main good points of this hotel is the rooftop bar area. It's not very big but it is more than adequate for a hotel of this size with plenty of seating area and large umbrellas for the daytime. It also has a really cool but small plunge pool which is made of glass. There is a problem with the pool area though which is a shame because with some thought, it could easily be rectified. There are only six sun loungers which were always occupied on the numerous occasions we tried to go up to sunbathe. Guests would congregate around the pool area before it opened and then grab a lounger. If you weren't the first 6 in the queue then you didn't get a lounger. We would keep popping up every hour to check if there was a free lounger but to no avail. There would be no one on the lounger but there would be belongings there. And there would be no one in the Pool either so it meant that people were just taking the loungers and then going off for the day or back to their rooms. This situation needs a complete rethink. I had actually forgotten about the welcome drink which turned up out of the blue! It was actually a small bottle of Cava but it was still nice to receive it! This hotel is in an upmarket residential area but it is on a main road which can get extremely noisy. That doesn't bother us as we live on a main road anyway so we are used to it but please bear in mind if noise bothers you when trying to sleep. Or just take a good pair of earplugs! Getting around from this hotel is a piece of cake. There is a metro station just opposite and down one block and a bus stop right outside the hotel. Madrid is a very easy city to navigate and we used both the Metro and the bus all the time – and not once did we get a taxi. We purchased a five day TravelCard for €25 at Madrid airport. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would definitely stay here again. Collapse

Amazing view from the rooftop bar but quite short of drinks. No variety at all what was quite disappointed. Staff tried to do their best but ... It's not the same. Hope they improved their drinks menu.

Great hotel in a great location. Close to several metro stations (5euros fare from airport so transfers are easy) and the Retiro park ( which is lovely). The staff are friendly and efficient. Breakfast is very nice. The room small but clean and air conditioned ( we had two single beds pushed together to form a double-as they were not locked together this was challenging at times). The lifts are cosy - 4 adults get well acquainted on the travel between floors but they are quick. The roof top bar is splendid with lovely views and a plunge pool if you need to cool off. Would definitely recommend for a weekend in Madrid. Collapse
