Went to Copenhagen for work. Stayed one night - found the room very cosy, and the eco-products were fantastic. I love the concept - they really do try and be eco-friendly on every level. It just goes to show you can be sustainable without compromising on comfort. The staff both in reception and at the bar were very accommodating and helpful. I also have to add that the bed was so comfortable I was physically pained to leave it in the morning. The only reason it isn't getting a 5th star is the lack of tea making facilities in the room. Will definitely stay again, and would recommend to everyone who likes a 4* establishment that isn't pretentious. Collapse
Not worth the price

We stayed at Axel Guldsmeden during the weekend in Copenhagen. We chose the hotel based on the concept and the design (and the website looks really cool). It was pricey for one night stay (for two) but we thought it was worth it. Well, it was not what we expected. The exterior and lobby was nice. The location is a bit dodgy with two strip clubs next door and a hostel in the opposite. It was close to the central station though. The room is a bit understated. It was humidly damp and we had to open the window multiple times to let the cold air in. The decor is bali-esque but it's a bit impractical. We specified early check-in when we booked the room. And when we arrived in the morning, the reception told us that the room is ready and that we got an upgrade to a deluxe room. Great. HOWEVER, when we went up to the room and opened the door, the room was occupied. There were stuff everywhere: shoes, shorts hanging from the bed poster, a laptop, packs of water. And we were sure someone was sleeping on the sofa. It looked like the room was occupied by a vagrant. It was unexpected and we were a bit shocked. Because at least they should have known if the guests in the room had checked out. And so we had to wait another 30-40 minutes whilst the housekeeping made up another room. We were only offered coffee and tea. They could have offered us a breakfast or something but they didn't. So we just sat there and waited, exhausted from the night train. To sum it up, not worth the money. You could book the similar price hotel at somewhere w/ free breakfast and much nicer, modern room. But again, this is an eco hotel and if you're a hipster, this place is for you. I like the concept but if I had to choose again I would go for something nicer. Collapse

We stayed here for one night in October. When we arrived the staff was very nice and welcoming. The room was clean and well maintained but the ventilation was poor and the room quickly became very hot. This could of course simply be fixed by opening a window but the hotel is located in one of Copenhagens rougher areas with a lot of noise and party until early in the morning. In the morning we went for the spa which we had all to ourselves and it was beautiful. Steam sauna, face masks, jacuzzi and relaxing area with fruits and nuts for snacks. The only reason this hotel isn't getting a 5/5 is because it was expensive. One nights stay with the spa was €230 and breakfast was not included in that price. Collapse

Booked here for a 4 day city break ' somewhere different'. Let's start with the location of this hotel, it is less than 2 mins walk from Central Station and the great ' meat packing district' of Copenhagen. Tivoli is 2 mins away and everything else in the city can be reached within 40 mins walk. At night the area does 'come alive', there are a number of gentlemens clubs, bars restraunts clubs etc. As a couple we found the area 'vibrant' and definetly a relaxed atmosphere - although I wouldn't take the family! The hotel itself is decorated brilliantly in the public areas, quite quirky and original but very clean and the staff were exceptional. Our room was small, but did include a 4 poster bed, 2x 40' TV's a sofa and a desk. The bathroom had a beautiful free standing granite bath, carved stone sink and a range of Eco toiletries/accessories. We ate in the restraunt one night and both had the 'organic' steak. I have to say it was delicious! The menu was simple but the quality of food was excellent. We had two steaks, sweets and a bottle of wine and cost £125. I shall leave it to you to decide whether that is expensive or not. Breakfast in the hotel was buffet style and was charged at £25 per head. Fortunately we sat next to a local on the flight over and she advised missing breakfast and having brunch instead - this was great advice as Copenhagen offers hundreds of pubs and cafes which start serving lunch at 10.30/11.00am. Downsides for us were lack of tea/coffe facilities in room. 2 X single quilts for a double bed and lack of storage space in room. Our room was facing the Main Street and there was quite a lot of outside noise at night ( although the courtyard facing rooms would have been much quieter) Collapse
