This place is the antithesis of a larger corporate chain hotel - it has a bohemian vibe and fiercely organic principles. The staff were all very friendly and it is in a very handy location close to the train station and Tivoli Gardens. Like anywhere, it has its downsides: I requested a room in a quiet location, which we got - right at the end of the top of the hotel. This may have been why our room was rather small and the double bed was against a wall at one side. Also, there was a chocolate bar wrapper in the bedside table. However, the rest of the room seemed very clean. We didn't try the breakfast. The wi fi was very good. The in-room organic soap is very good if, like me, your skin is of a sensitive nature! Collapse

Good hotel in a good location for most of the sites. Staff are good. However a few disappointments - this was booked for our wedding anniversary and noted on our booking but not mention or recognition on arrival etc. Also 1st morning asked about the robes and slippers that should be in the room, got slippers but never got the robes - organic theme to the hotel as has been mentioned in other reviews. Room (superior) good room comfy bed, good size but if you are a light sleeper beware of room 403 (you can hear the lift go up and down and doors open). I think the lift shaft runs up behind the bedhead. Also bathroom not as luxurious as expected. But good hotel and would return but not room 403 Collapse

The Axel Guldsmeden is not a hotel for those who like sterile business chain hotels, where the experience is identical from one example to another and everything is shiny and new. This is a characterful, quirky boutique hotel with style and flair and a great green ethos. I loved the fact that lobby furniture was mismatched and much of it recycled and second hand, and I much appreciated the greener shower gels and shampoos. It sounds a bit worthy and preachy but it wasn't. In fact, the whole place has a really friendly and relaxed vibe, far from some of the stuffy 5-star hotels where one is constantly worried about putting a foot wrong. The staff were as chilled and friendly too. The floors squeak a bit and our room was on the small side on the top floor (we did though go for the cheapest option). I generally slept OK even though there was some street noise and my side of the bed was pushed up against the wall, making getting up in the night a bit of a struggle. The bathroom was small but the towels were lovely and the shower was powerful enough with lots of hot water. We didn't eat in the hotel, choosing to have breakfast in one or two of the many nearby cafes. Wifi was free and reliable. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from Central Station so very handy. Much is made of it being in the Vesterbro red light district but most of that particular action (for want of a better word) is on a neighbouring road. We only spotted a strip club on the hotel's street and the road itself has several other hotels, a notable restaurant and a smart cafe so don't be put off. Red lights or not, Vesterbro has a great selection of quality bars and restaurants and I never once felt threatened or insecure about walking around. Tivoli is a 5-minute walk away and the main shopping district 5 minutes further on. We only really used the bus to get into the Nyhavn and Norrebro districts as the city centre is pretty compact and easily walkable. The bus stop for those areas was a minute or two from the hotel at the top of the road. Collapse

I am not a fan of corporate sterile hotels so was delighted to find this hotel in Copenhagen while staying here for a conference. It has a very relaxed comfortable ambience and I enjoyed a coffee on the comfy sofas outside. The bar looked lovely too. I found the staff helpful with my interactions with them. I realised that I had feather pillows in my room which I am allergic too, it was no problem to get them and the duvet changed. Great service. Breakfast was yummy buffet with good and varied choice for me as a vegetarian. It was not the cheapest but then Copenhagen is not a cheap city. I feel that it was good value. I had a very quirky bunk bed in my single room. My only slight criticism is that there was nowhere to hang my clothes so they were hung on the bunk! A decent sized room and bathroom with lovely organic free bath products. I normally do not even attempt to use freebies in the bathroom but these were great. I had a nice view of the back of the hotel. With respect to the location, the hotel is close to the lakes, the main train station is just around the corner and Tivoli gardens. I was travelling on my own but did not feel uncomfortable walking around the hotel late at night. I also managed to run 15K on the weekend of the half marathon - wished I'd known before my visit. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Copenhagen. I ran out of time to use the spa facilities much to my chagrin but next time! Collapse
