We were three girlfriends on a relaxing spa weekend. We had read reviews on The Grove and really wanted to try it. We didn't have any treatments as we wanted to chat and thought we'd make use of the spa facilities available. We used the pool and the steam room. The food and drinks were pricey as you would imagine, but the service was particularly good and everyone was really friendly. The reception was 5 star, along with the service and room drop. Also the food in the restaurant was pretty good, along with the service. They do not cater particularly well for individuals who do not like the set menu so be warned! Rooms were average for a chain hotel and not the 5* experience that I expected. The corridors were quite sterile and looked as if they could do with a freshen up, although there was some interesting art about the place! I'm sure on a Summer's day the grounds would be lovely and it certainly seemed very popular. However, for us and our spa experience, it was nothing more than we would receive for a lower price at a four star hotel. Collapse
Skip a Visit to this overpriced spa.

I recently visited my best friend in the UK and we both wanted to relax and catch up after a very stressful year. My friend had been given a gift card for the Stables restaurant, so we decided to make a day of it and add on spa treatments. I had decided upon the 'English Rose Reviver' (175pounds) which included a body scrub, massage and scalp treatment, just what needed as I was feeling tired from my jet lag. My friend booked a scrub and deluxe facial. Upon arrival, we were told we were not allowed to use the spa facilities as we were not hotel guests. Err, Ok...., not what I was expecting, but I went along with it. Instead, We were told to wait in the reception area for our therapist. This didn't seem right to me, Where was our comfy robe and slippers, not even a beautiful 'quiet' room to wait in? My friend and I just wanted to relax, I felt like I was waiting for a doctors appointment, not a spa treatment! My therapist gave a good treatment, asking me several times about the pressure and if I was comfortable, but I found myself not being able to relax, annoyed about the fact, that I would be getting straight back into my clothes with my body and hair slick with oil. After the treatment, I got dressed and was lead back to the 'reality' of the reception. I asked where I could freshen up and was shown to a tiny WC which felt like a public toilet. I felt deflated, what an abrupt end it really took the 'shine off' what should have been a lovely spa experience. I did speak with the front desk and she apologized, and offered if I'd like to take a shower. So, I can take a shower then? By that time, I was dressed and ready to pay. My treatment came to 175 pounds sterling and my friend spent over 200 pounds on her treatment. I have always enjoyed visiting The Grove over the years and they always deliver. So my question to them, as a renowned property that values itself on 5 star service, why offer spa treatments at 5 star prices to non residents when you can't deliver a 5 star service? Collapse

Brilliant service from start to finish - I was especially impressed that I left a couple of non valuable items in the room and the hotel contacted me and sent them back in the post within a week. Very impressed.

A lovely hotel which we have been to before for a meal in the buffet style restaurant which was absolutely first class. We were not disappointed with the afternoon tea and very reasonably priced compared to other upmarket hotels we have been to. We had our own room looking out onto the gardens and we even had the Head Chef pop in and greet us which was a lovely gesture. Cakes were lovely, sandwiches we couldn't fault and if seconds were required they brought it straight out. They even gave us doggy bags to take all our leftover cakes and sandwiches home! We also had a child's afternoon tea which was a lot cheaper which my daughter absolutely loved! We ended the afternoon with a walk around the grounds, the scenery and landscaping is lovely at the Grove, worth a trip and great value for money. Only downside is their bar prices, so beware of a hefty bill if dining and drinking. Collapse
