You could opt for the contemporary deluxe rooms in the West Wing where the hotel stretches through gardens towards Sequoia Spa. I'm an LHW member but my assistant booked me via another site thereby ensuring that I received none of the perks. Once she realized this error she emailed the hotel and asked if we could book direct since they were sold out they told her to hold onto the reservation and that they would take care of me I arrived quite early as was there for a conference and requested an early check in . They told me they would call me the minute they had a room. I did promptly receive a call with an early check in once they had the room set. The room itself was lovely and conveniently located for the conference I was attending. Came with delicious cookies. The service was excellent all the way through and the next morning when I went for breakfast, it was comped - an LHW perk. That little gesture was an added mark of great service. I will definitely be visiting this property again. Collapse

I have been looking for a luxury family hotel close to London for a while now and The Grove always came up on search engines. On the website it looked like it had all the facilities I was looking for and was considering joining their loyalty scheme. My family visited on Weds 21st June for dinner and hoping to get a tour of the facilities. When we got there I told the receptionist that we were going to eat at The Stables bar and would like a tour of the hotel with a view to considering their loyalty scheme. She then proceeded to list the areas that we could NOT view and that there were only a few rooms she could show us anyway. She was not the most dynamic or welcoming of ladies so I thought I would come back after dinner and hopefully speak with someone else. She didn't offer me a map when I asked for directions so I had to ask her for one. By the time we'd finished eating at The Stables bar I realised quite quickly that this was not going to be a place we'd return to. Firstly may I say that both Grace and Jason who were serving were most excellent and are the sole reason why I have given a two star rating as opposed to one. So to summarise our experience very briefly:- We were served HALF an 8inch child's pizza instead of a full one. I.e. half a pizza had been cut into 4 slices and spread around a plate to give the very poor illusion that it was a full pizza. This was most insulting as even my ten year old could work out that it was a scam. We did point this out to a member of staff and he said he would feed it back to the chef (or whoever is responsible for the incredible decision to cut costs like this). I asked for my tuna salad with dressing on the side. It came with dressing on it. Ditto my husband's Caeser Salad. We asked for fresh juice. The only one they had on the menu was orange and that had run out. My pot of tea came without milk. I asked twice for a teaspoon. We asked for crayons and colouring sheet (standard in "family friendly" hotels). No one ever came back to us. Men were standing in the doorway to the bar area smoking feet away from us. Appallingly the children's deserts were served scattered with BRIGHTLY COLOURED SWEETS! Some of them were bright BLUE and goodness knows what E numbers they contained. I am afraid that was the final straw as I can't understand why a 5 star establishment claiming to be "family friendly" would believe that their target clientele would wish to feed their children junk food. Again I fed that back to Jason who was very understanding of my concerns. Before ordering my pudding I asked for minimal cream and more berries. I was given approximately 4 berries in a glass of cream! I returned this but also had to ask for it to be taken off the bill once it arrived. I would have thought that'd be a given. We left The Stables bar and decided to look around ourselves. The gardens are very beautiful but not suitable for small children especially with the open water features. We found the Walled Garden that contains the children's areas. I'm afraid we had to walk through huge car parks to get there so this again not at all family friendly. Some drivers were not very considerate of their speed and I wouldn't feel comfortable walking to and fro with children. All in all I so wanted to love this place as it's only 30 minutes from where we are in London. In the end I didn't even bother to look at their rooms as we won't be returning. Collapse

I stayed at this hotel with my company on Monday 12th June for one night and upon checking in was asked to provide a credit or debit card of which I gave a debit card and was informed a £100 deposit would be removed from my card and refunded upon my check out. Although I had reservation of doing this as this is not something I have had to do before when staying in hotels I was assured the money would be refunded straight away assuming I did not have anything from the mini bar or incur any chargers during my stay. I did not take anything from the mini bar which I informed the front desk of during checkout and was issued with a receipt for my £100 deposit stating that the money had been taken on 12th June and returned on 13th June. I checked my account later that day and noticed no money had been taken so assumed I had misunderstood the staff member at check in and that the £100 was just held in the event that I spent anything. Sadly this turns out not to be the case and the £100 was removed from my account on Wednesday 14th June a day after I checked out and took several days to be returned to me! This is a policy I have never experienced before despite staying in a variety of hotels some better and some lesser than The Grove. I have also discovered since discussing with colleagues that some were only charged £50 and others nothing which I find to be very inconsistent and unprofessional. One of my colleagues called to enquire why his money had not be returned to him and he was rudely disregarded and informed it was his banks problem! I find this very hard to believe seeing as I often transfer money between various different accounts and amounts and every time the money leaves or is received instantly and the £100 was taken from my account 2 days later than it should have been. I wrote to complain to the hotel and they completely ignored me! I find their so called 5 star service appalling and would not stay here again and would not recommend anyone else to stay here. It's not so much the money being taken it's the fact that it was inconsistent and unprofessional and now I am being ignored which is not the sort of service I would expect to receive from a hotel which surely would like to remain its reputation.
