Visited the Marconfort Griego during the October half-term for 6 days, all-inclusive. Having read some of the reviews on here before, we decided to use the train, from the airport, to the hotel. This was such a cheap and easy experience. The train station at the airport is right outside the terminal. This is a direct train to Torremolinos train station which took less than twenty minutes. We were quoted 15 euros for transfers from the airport to the hotel, the train however was a quarter of the price for 4 people!!! The walk from the station to the hotel is very easy and took us about 15 minutes and this was with 6 suitcases between 4 adults. I would recommend researching the route beforehand though as tried to follow it on the phone without internet and did take a wrong turning - which wasn’t the best idea with the suitcases and in the heat. When arriving at the hotel we were seen straight away by a member of staff at the reception and given our key cards. The rooms we were given were on the front of the hotel, which overlooked the main road. This didn’t cause much of problem except when the beer was being delivered early one morning. Rooms were very basic. Water was left by the maids as and when needed along with toiletries in the bathroom. Food was great and a wide variety was offered each day. For breakfast there was cooked options everyday, pancakes, omelettes, toast and cereals. Lunch was either in the main restaurant and had similar options to the tea time food. There was also a snack bar which was close to where the pool is. The snack bar was your burgers, hot dogs and chips options. Throughout the day, packets of crisps, ice lollies/cream and nuts were available, free of charge on the all inclusive, from the bars. Over the 6 days, none of us went in the pool, it was of a good size - but I imagine this would get extremely busy throughout the summer period! There was never a problem to get a subbed around the pool whilst we were there, but, again, I imagine this would be a different story during the summer holidays. At the start of the holiday we would bathe around the pool, however there were flies everywhere and became very annoying! The high rise rooms surrounded the pool and this meant the sun was very limited. This however was sorted by sunbathing on the roof top terrace which was a nice space. The only real downfall for us a family was the entertainment, it was very limited considering the number of bars in the hotel. The children’s entertainment was in the main room and suitable for those with young children. There was also Pepe’s bar which had a dart board, snooker table and entertainment (karaoke, quiz, etc.) but we found this started far too late for us. As previously mentioned the hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk from the train station which is in the town centre, so everything very is easy to get to. The train can take you either towards Malaga or towards Fuengirola. The beach is a much longer walk, compared to that of the town, and I would certainly not recommend trying to get back to the hotel on foot from the beach especially in the heat, as it is all uphill! One final thing, with regards to the hotel is that the some of services became limited because we went in October despite being the English school holidays. For example the free bus that the hotel put on to the beach was no longer available. During our stay, we privately arranged to do a trip to Gibraltar, this is something I would certainly recommend!!! A tourist trip around the rock, visit the monkeys and then time to shop in the town. We also caught the bus to Mijas, which was a beautiful place. Whilst there we visited the chocolate factory, which was something different to do. The views were also beautiful and were worth the walk around the town. Collapse

Went here this July for my birthday with another couple, wow what a disappointment! -pool area is tiny and the hotel must have been at full capacity at the time, people fighting over sunbeds and massive queues for them at 8am for people to come and leave towels on them all day and appear once! -lifts felt like they were going to break down, so slow, and massive queues for them as there was only 2! Regularly found myself walking up to the 8th floor where our room was! -food wasn't bad just very repetitive -the hotel was so busy and there must have been 1% English to 99% Spanish, don't get me wrong I wouldn't usually mind this but they were so loud and rude!! -drinks was decent but again the queues for the bars were a joke This hotel is quite a walk to the beach but it is so worth it! We spent most of our holiday laid on the beach as it was gorgeous with lots of beach bars! However not what you want when you're all inclusive Collapse
Pool a bit small 😕 Nice hotel though

We travelled as a family including young daughter, teenage son and a grandparent. Booked this hotel because there was no room at the beach club and this is the sister hotel. Huge difference between the two! Our rooms at the beach club had two lifts and a stairwell. At the Griego there were two but they were regularly held up by large families from other countries for up to half an hour at a time! The corridors are much narrower than the beach club and looked tired. The hotel itself lies quite some distance from the beach and, depending on the route, can be a long uphill walk. There is a lift service down nearer the beach but it still leaves a long uphill walk back to the hotel. The walk passes many shops and bars though so it is a nice evening stroll if the hill doesn't affect you. There is a free shuttle bus to the beach but the last return time is quite early. Rooms were average but clean. Have to empty your own air con bottle on patio. This wasn't told to us on arrival and we ended up with it overflowing! However, we used the chair bed every night for our daughter which she didn't have any problems sleeping on. We had a little trouble sleeping due to noise from other rooms. We seemed to have a spin sh couple next door who fought most nights on returning from the bar. We did complain about this but we're just told 'there are no other rooms' with no attempt to ask them to keep it down ever made. Rooms cleaned every day and clean towels when left on bathroom floor as is with most hotels these days. Chambermaids were lovely and work extremely hard. We did have an upsetting encounter one evening though. We found a young gecko on the roof of our room. This was not the unpleasant encounter. Being animal lovers we tried to catch him ourselves to put him outside but he was too fast. So we called down to reception for a bit of help. A big burly security guard type attended. Thankfully I spotted what he was about to do and ushered my daughter out before he used a large club to kill the animal. If I hadn't taken her out we would have all witnessed this. I spotted the club and tried to stop him asking him to wait a moment (in Spanish) so I could return and tell him we wouldn't want that. On my return he had already dispatched of our little friend. A bit shocking for us. Reception staff always seem to be over busy, which is probably why they couldn't care less when you contact them about an issue. Food was nice but again, average all inclusive food. Our favourites were the desserts! All food was well presented and, again, staff work extremely hard and all but one were incredibly nice. The one who wasn't was working the bar and couldn't have had more disdain for those who were waiting to be served. Unlike the staff in the pool bar who were happy and cheery and (possibly pretended) to be impressed with my Spanish efforts. During our stay my mum took ill, nothing serious, just sunstroke we think. On the first day she couldn't face food but by the second she was starting to need something. The restaurant staff were so lovely, insisting that they could get a doctor but is not required I was welcome to take anything from the restaurant for her. All she wanted was bread but they made up a plate of fruit for her too. ☺️ Pool area and pool cleaned every day of our stay and the pool has the sun for most of the day at the shallow end. Down side being that they unlock sunbeds at 7am and there are the usual vultures waiting to book a bed or 6. The only good thing was that after a certain amount of time, if you have not returned to your bed, the lifeguard removes the towels. This would be fabulous if he got it right all of the time. We regularly watched him place warning notices on beds around half an hour before removing towels. But one day my daughter and partner went for lunch while I stayed outside. I popped in to the loo and came back to find him removing our towels! Thank goodness my Spanish isn't too basic and I could fight my corner because he didn't understand English and was adamant he was removing them. Pleasant stay but would try to go elsewhere in future only because of the pool size which is completely inadequate for this size of hotel. Collapse
Best staff by far

We have stayed here many times before as a family. Unfortunately while here in June 2016 my husband suffered a fatal heart attack. We had booked 3 double rooms and were allocated 1st floor rooms all in a row. We can not thank all of the staff enough for their help compassion and kindness, from the receptionists who phoned the ambulance and stayed with us until my husband and myself were rushed to hospital in Malaga , the entertainment staff who comforted myself ,my parents in law, and daughter, the restaurant staff who hugged us . Special thanks to Carl The client relations manager who was there for us all we even had his personal phone number in case we needed help on hos day off and allowed my son and my sister to stay free of charge once they had flown out to join us. As a family we can never repay everyone's kindness. This is a hotel full of staff that really care. Location is not beach front but there is a hotel bus that takes you there. The food is excellent I know you can't please everyone but they have a huge selection. The hotel is spotless. Yes you do get Spanish staying there but hey it's in Spain ! The pool isn't the biggest, but there is no room to extend it. Collapse
