Firstly let me say that I feel the hotel should be graded 'Good' but as there isn't this option in the ratings I've gone for the 'Average' score in direct … Read More comparison to the Marconfort Beach Hotel where I stayed last year which was really rather good - if you have the choice and don't necessarily need to be in Torre town thengo for the beach option. In common with most of the central hotels, the Griego harks back to the early sixties style of architecture but a lot of money has obviouslybeen spent on the interior and it is up to date and modern. During the period of my brief stay the wifi was down - apparently it was being upgraded to fibre-opticand, although I could communicate with the router, there was no external connection. I think that wifi will be available throughout the hotel, including the rooms whenit's upgraded so this, for me, is a great plus point. The staff were all very friendly, especially the guy in charge of the 'La Giaconda' restaurant which isadjacent to the pool and is more of a snack restaurant than the main one. However, if all you need/want at lunchtime, La Giaconda is the place to go, there were never morethan half a dozen people in there and the food, though very restrictive in the choice, was excellent. The main restaurant does get busy at feeding times, even withlengthy sitting times and there are queues at the most popular times. Food is very good, very varied and, generally, hot when it should be. The staff are veryefficient at clearing empty tables so, even if you ARE queuing at peak times, you shouldn't have to wait long. My room was fine, clean and tidy. Not overly large but as asingle traveller I wouldn't expect it to be. Perfectly acceptable for the amount of time I spent in it. The hotel was very busy for the time of year, mostly Spanish.I'm guessing they visit now, before the mass invasion begins in a couple of months time! If you're less mobile the you may have an issue. The reception area is on alower level than one of the bars and access to another bar and the pool area (although there are two chair-lifts, neither seemed to be in operation at the time ofmy visit). Obviously there are the usual ramps to provide additional access but I thought I'd mention it. One thing that caused me a little confusion when I was inthe lift descending from my room; in the lift there are 2 buttons - 'R' and 'H'. I assumed (wrongly) that 'R' was 'Reception'. No, it's 'Restaurant' whilst 'H'(presumably meaning 'Hotel') is reception. A small point but worth remembering! My biggest gripe is that the Griego, in common with a couple of hotels I've recently visitednow serves beer only in small glasses and us Brits do like our pints! Indeed, one guy had bought his own Carling glass which I thought was very far sighted. I canonly assume this is a cost-saving measure but not one I appreciate. I'm sure the hotel loses far more money with the amount of food that is wasted but there yougo. The hotel is very close to the town centre and the Plaza de la Independencia is the place to sit and watch the world go by. Just off the main square is a tiny littlebar called 'The Rugby Club' and I would definitely recommend a visit, quiet and friendly. As a town, Torremolinos is looking a little 'tired'. I think it was one ofthe first popular Spanish holiday resorts of the sixties and would benefit from a little 'sprucing up' in general. Finally, if you have an overwhelming desire tohave your hair done whilst away, you're spoilt for choice - I've never seen so many 'peluquerias' in such a small area! I hope this review helps.
