I booked a lunch for 13 people for my mum's 80th birthday. I have been here a few times and the service has always been excellent. From the pre-dinner drinks and hors d'oeuvres to the main meal and dessert, everything was absolutely delicious. Being a terrible daughter, I hadn't organised a birthday cake, however, when the cakes came out with the tea and coffee, mum was presented with her own little plate with a candle and Happy Birthday on it without me even asking. The attention to detail and little things like this made it a very special occassion and a great birthday celebration. Collapse

Again would be 4.5 if possible. Excellent service from 1st class staff. Booked on the 115 deal and chose the largest room available. This was a lovely room but not large by any means. High quality sheets and covers. Robes and slippers provided. Quite cold when we went in but heated up during the evening. We ate in the restaurant which was very good if a bit overpriced (rib for two £65, starters & sweets from £8, cheaper wines about £35). Food was excellent however as was the service. There are a number of seating areas for pre & post dinner drinks. A very small bar area, a larger library lounge with excellent pianist all evening, a more remote room to the rear and the corridor/ foyer area with a fire place. Hors d'oeuvre before meal and nice sweets with coffee after. To provide a balanced review one of our robes was clearly unlaundered with a dirty tissue in one pocket and a brown mark on the belt - not good! Replaced immediately on request but no compensation offered (i.e. a complementary drink, which would have been nice). Rooms have no tea and coffee facilities - which is unusual in the UK, even becoming the norm in Europe. Bath took 20 min to fill. Shower over bath which is not always suitable for everyone. All in all we had a lovely evening, and would return if the price was right. Collapse

Let me say first all that this is a truly beautiful place with 5***** potential in a traditional luxury context. It's more like Gleneagles than some perfect well manicured modern hotel. We have been here before, but only for dinner and we wish we'd stayed over so always promised to come back at some point. This weekend we came with my parents and sister and her husband who hadn't been before. The place was just how we remembered it, with old fashioned charm, log fires and a warm welcome. We'd booked 3 rooms plus dinner for 6 and arrived late afternoon for some well prepared scones, jam and cream. Beautiful. I've given this top rating but to be honest there were far too many issues with the rooms than I care to mention but the overall experience and the response of the team in dealing with the issues makes me conclude the rating is right and fair. Let me just say that if you are allocated rooms 25 through the 27 AND the weather outside is especially cold, then ask to be moved in advance. There's clearly an issue with the heating in those rooms (26 and 27 in particular) that neither the central heating nor the underfloor heating in the bathrooms could deal with. We had room 27 which is the gable end and it was frankly freezing in the bathroom...unusable. conversely the team could not have done more to remedy the situation and they retained my confidence throughout. They made allowances in the dinner experience for the shortcomings (this is a 5***** experience and that is the benchmark you should hold them too) and I am overall satisfied this was a great weekend for all concerned despite the heating issues...and I think they are only related to the rooms I mention which have recently been refurbished. I think this is just teathing issues for the first winter since they were refurbished. I will leave a separate review on the dining experience, but overall Greywalls gets my vote for a great weekend experience with type end service from the team who will go as far as they need to to deal with any issue you encounter.......they will likely be choices on the menu, but if not you can rely on the team to put that right. I have booked my daughter and partner into Greywalls for a Christmas gift in February. I have no doubt that they will love the experience Greywalls has to offer. One of the best. Thank you. Collapse

We found a great deal online and stayed here for little more than an Edinburgh Premier Inn! We brought our 3 year old - which is quite an experience for such a luxury and historic hotel. The staff were brilliant and we were in one of the gatehouse lodges away from disturbing other guests. As a parent, it's very much a refined atmosphere.. as you'd expect from somewhere known for fine dining.. so you should use judgement about bringing children. But saying that, the staff were kind, genial and very very good at their job when faced with a pre-schooler trying not to behave a breakfast! A must visit.. especially for fans of Arts and Crafts (and golf of course) Collapse
Amazing staff couldn't have looked after us better

Stayed at the fabulously grand Greywalls hotel for a wedding. Traveling with 2 children under 3 was a little daunting but the friendly and helpful staff couldn't have made it easier. Was also a gorgeous wedding venue.
