My mother and I have just returned from a very enjoyable 4 night stay at the gravensteen hotel. The hotel is very easy to get to from st. Pieter's train station. Take Tram no.1, direction wondelgem or evergem and get off at gravensteen. The stop is more or less opposite the hotel. A 10 journey tram ticket costs 15 euros and you can buy them at the travel centre in the train station. On arrival we were bowled over by the location of the hotel, opposite the beautiful gravensteen castle at the end of a pretty cobbled street. Check in was very easy and Lynn on reception gave us a very friendly and warm welcome. The reception area is very nice, lots of marble and a sweeping staircase. Our room was in the older building at the front of the hotel and was accessible via the lift and a small flight of stairs. The room was a very good size with 2 single beds with bedside tables, a desk area with tea and coffee making facilities a large flat screen TV with lots of channels, even BBC and ITV which was a surprise! A wardrobe with plenty of space and a lovely modern bathroom which looked almost brand new! House keeping staff were very friendly and kept the room immaculate! The breakfast room is situated in the annexe building, just a walk across a small courtyard and then take the lift up to the first floor. The breakfast room itself is lovely, very tastefully decorated and very relaxed. we really enjoyed having our breakfast here every morning. The breakfast was fantastic!..... and included everything you could want, bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages, boiled eggs, cereal, fruit, pastries, bread ,cheese etc fresh orange juice and tea and coffee. The breakfast staff waizer and gerburt were extremely friendly and we enjoyed our chats with them every morning. We would also like to say thank-you to axel and the other gentleman on reception who were very friendly and courteous throughout our stay. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a holiday in his beautiful city! Collapse

stayed for 3 nights, nice big room ,great shower, room was at the front off the hotel so a bit off early morn racket with bin men ,commercial deliveries etc, would request a rear room in future.car parking i thought a bit expensive at 15EU a night, next time i'll get the car into ramen 4 car park, cheap as chips and only a few mins walk from hotel. double bed we had was the usual continental style off two singles shoved together no worries there cept mine had a bit off a ridge in the middle so if i wasn't perfectly balanced i'd roll over to one side or the other.hopefully when we stay in future and we will a rear room wont have that issue. Staff are really friendly and full off local advice and what has been said already is its logicality to the castle ,1 min walk and to the main canal ,banks ,restaurants ,bars and shops.2nd time in ghent and will be back next year. We arrived by car and was directed to the rear car park which was easier said than done. You have to drive round the block and go through 2 no entry signs then 'voila' car park. We had room 24 which was excellent with a partial view of the castle. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. Room service is good with toiletries and new towels every day. There's a safety deposit box in the room at no extra charge. It's a bit noisy at night but this is to be expected in view of the hotel location. Staff were friendly especially in the breakfast room in the annex building. Breakfast is adequate and what you would expect. The hotel bar is not worth the visit. No one was ever in there and it's not surprising considering the cost of a drink is 9euro. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the vicinity. The tram stops outside but we chose to walk everywhere which was easy enough. Collapse
