This was our third stay at the GB Hotel Surfside. What we like about it is that the rooms are relatively new and very comfortable/luxurious, the location close to Bal Harbour is ideal for us, and the staff is generally friendly. The restaurant is what you would expect from a property of this calibre. It has a lovely beach as well as multiple swimming pools. Main negative comment is that on each visit, there were several examples of service lapses due to inadequate staffing, poor procedures and poorly trained staff. At over $500/night in season, I expect service that, if not at the level of a Four Seasons, is nonetheless highly professional. On each trip there were minor annoyances caused by staffing lapses. Some examples include: food trays left in the hallways for many hours, occasional very long front desk lines, fire doors not re-opened after a fire alarm: for 24 hours, when calling maintenance, front desk unable to provide any time estimates and no follow-through, billing errors that take multiple voicemails to rectify because the accounting department isn't answering their phone, dirty towels left all around the pool for many hours, etc. What I will say is that the staff does seem very genuinely friendly and eager to please: but they often don't have the tools or experience or (sorry but this is true...) intelligence to assure that guests at a high-end property feel properly taken care of. We stayed in a beautiful clean and spacious oceanfront room. The location andservive were both excellent. We would definitely go back in the future. The oranges that were available throughout the lobby were delicious and added an extra touch.

We needed a hotel in Surfside for 2 adults/2 children President's day weekend and this was one of the few available. The pros: good beachfront location and friendly breakfast staff and our 2 Queen room was spacious and had a separate living area and 2 bathrooms. The cons: we had cold water in our shower 2 of the 3 nights and when we told a staff member at check-out she made no apology and made a veiled attack about truth of my comment. Why would I lie about that when we were already checking out? So if you get room 474 be prepared your water may not be hot because I'm pretty sure that the hotel staff made no note for maintenance service on that room. Also, I thought $42/day for valet parking was ridiculous when you can't even call in advance for your car (you must go downstairs and stand in line to get your car, something I've never encountered before, even in Miami.) The $27 resort fee covers only 2 chairs, which is kind of ridiculous if you are paying for a room for 4 people. And those chairs are worn out and filthy and not particularly comfortable (particularly the daybeds.) Be aware that the pools are much smaller than they look online. My elementary age kids got bored immediately. Definitely not a location I would return to. Collapse

My wife and I decided to go on a vacation to Florida. We struggled with what area and hotel to stay at. We finally decided on the Grand Beach Surfside and our stay there was EXCELLENT! The check in at the lobby was quick and the desk clerk was very courteous. We upgraded to an ocean front king room which was a little smaller in size then the king ocean view room, however the view was stunning and really a good choice. The room was nicely appointed and had a very comfortable king bed, 2 flat screen TVs, a great balcony with a full ocean front view and was VERY clean. The bathroom was well-appointed with a glass shower stall. Everything in the room was new! It was great. The housekeeping people were very responsive and friendly when we asked for more towels. All of the hotel staff we interacted with were friendly and very accommodating. The hotel fitness center was outstanding to work out in. The only problem I had in the fitness center was that one morning it was too warm. A quick call down to the front desk and they sent someone up to adjust the AC. After that it was great! The location of this hotel can't be beat. It is well positioned close south beach but in a quiet neighborhood where you can really unwind and relax. It is about a $15ish Uber ride away from South Beach. The concierge was very helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. There was lots of high end shopping in Bal Harbour mall about a block away. We walked out of the hotel and right on to the beach where we were directed to our beach chairs with a large umbrella shielding us from the sun. We spent the day enjoying the great sandy beach. The walking path behind the hotel goes for miles. It is a great path to walk, run and ride bikes. There is a bike rack close by where you can rent bikes with a credit card and then drop them off at any bike racks along the way to South Beach. We rode our bikes to South Beach, dropped off our bikes and then took Uber back. The pool on the roof deck is where we spent most of our time hanging out. Perfect ocean and beach views, great service, food and drinks! After spending the day at the pool we shifted to the bar one floor down to enjoy the sunset views. Needless to say, we enjoyed staying there immensely! We are already planning a trip back for next year and will stay there again. It was close to a 10 out of 10 experience for us! Collapse

Stayed in this hotel two times, the last one with my little kid and wife. The rooms are great as they have two full bathrooms which is very helpful with a little kid and in a beach destination. Also they provide a crib which was ok and clean. Carpets very clean and comfortable. Two times room service tried to clean up when we were there and they after forget to come over. They provide a good night solution even it was uncomfortable we felt they were listening. Expensive valet parking as it was slow as a turtle. Beach service worth it, good chairs and towels. Collapse
