The Kurhaus used to be a luxurious hotel for the European upper classes visiting the seaside. Although it suggests to offer this experience to a modern visitor, it is more of an overpriced Holiday Inn Express. With a lot of maintenance work due. This hotel really needs renovations and a management make-over to return to its former glory. Here's what we got for quite a lot of money: - A very beautiful seaview - A room without much personality, except for maybe a print of an old ship in the bathroom - No bath robes or guest towels (had to call reception twice to get this sorted) - One set of most things (glasses, shampoo miniature, teabag), even though we were with two (asked staff about this, they promised to fix this, didn't happen) - Free stuff in the minibar (yay!) - Frayed towels that somehow smelled like an old frying pan - A very annoying tap that spilled water all over the bathroom counter every time you didn't use it at full speed - Broken airconditioning - A pretty but moldy spa without complimentary towels or bathrobes - Mattresses of OK quality - Kind service at the front desk The Waves restaurant is worth avoiding. We waited half an hour for an overpriced cup of tea and glass of white wine that upon arrival had approximately the same temperature. Not sure how this happened, as it wasn't particularly busy. During dinner, the couple next to us was celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary. One of them had allergies about which they had informed the restaurant twice - when they made their reservation, and at the time of arrival. They had to send their food back twice because the kitchen had not made the appropriate accommodations. No surprise, they decided to leave before finishing their main courses. Would not recommend this hotel for anything but its historic architecture and seaside views. Collapse

We had guests from Germany, they have paid for 3 nights € 980.00. When we arrived at the hotel we did not know what we saw, I did not believe that a luxury hotel looked like a hostel. In the elevator you have to use your room card. We have used a bonus card of AH. ??? Security is far to be found You could get to the rooms by any means. When we got out of the elevator, I screamed from the carpet it seemed as if all the bottles were pale out, everywhere there were white spots. You walked in the hall without any decoration . The first room had a leakage, the floor by the window was going to be filled with water by the leakage and as you walked along, you heard water under the floor. After the complaint at reception they had a suite. The room was like out The movie: The hangover, after the party. Wallpaper from the age of 30, sat loose from walls, in the bedroom mirror and lamps hung obliquely, carpet was under a stain. In the bathroom people found a human tooth. Furniture was so old and dirty that I did not dare to sit down. When calling the reception several times and asking if room could be cleaned at 16:00, room was still not clean. You could not even complain, the Being floor manager: If this does not like then we have a problem ??? What kind of service is that ???? I am ashamed of my friends that this still occurs in the Netherlands. For 5 star hotel, name and prices. No good advertising for the Netherlands. Collapse

Our day was very bad, and no parking did not help, my girlfriend and I had rented a Mercedes C220d to drive from Amsterdam, but because we could not park at the hotel, we brought back the car to the rental place, and took the train, and as I started with, our day had been really bad, ever since we landed. We decided to go by train, and hoped that the hotel would make our stay worth it. And it did, the place was great, it was luxury, and we loved our stay, the free minibar helped. everything whent smooth and the bed was fantastic. The cleaning could have been better, and the roomservice too, the morning buffet was good, the area was wonderful, with great food, and drinks. the spa was ok. Overall it was a great stay. Everything was smooth, no problems or anything. The only minus we had, was the lack of parking, roomservice, cleaning. We will probably come back, and recomend to others. Collapse

I just want to give this hotel 6 out of 5 stars because this hotel deserves it! We had our New Year gala of the year of 2006 in this hotel and we were back there 2 weeks ago, this hotel keeps very well its standing for 10 years! Congratulations! The lobby hall of this hotel is splendid and you always want to go there for a rest especially when the pianist is there... The atmosphere at the restaurant with the terrace, overlooking the North sea, is so relaxing and comfortable, we just love it. And the price of the dinner is very reasonable. So go for dinner with the sunset! The hotel now has a spa centre, including different massages, etc., and an indoor swimming pool as well as a sauna centre. All is very well arranged, highly recommended in case the weather is not good enough for going out and swimming in the sea:-). We stayed in 2 different rooms of different catagory during our 2 stays, so we can say all their rooms are comfortable, with a decent size and a very well maintained and classy bathroom. The staff in the hotel is very helpful and client-oriented, we highly appreciated their effort to satisfy all guests. The breakfast has everything, very abondant, but set in a very large area, so you MUST first go around in order to see where is where, then take a seat. And be careful, one of you has to remain at table if there is already food on the table when you have breakfast on the terrace because seagulls are very agressive!! Here, we strongly suggest that the management of the hotel should recruit somebody who raises and trains the eagles to chase seagulls as we saw in Portugal and other countries. In a word, it is a classy and classical hotel, very well located, beautiful, comfortable, but not snobbish at all. We sincerely hope all guests in this hotel can cherish its long history and classical & classy atmosphere. Up to now, what we saw is like this and we are happy with it. Collapse
