We had an executive room and were very disappointed. The room was really not clean and the bathroom too small for a 5* Hotel. The furniture is very old and the balcony was dirty (we had the pleasure to find a bottle with smoked cigarettes inside....) One day we came back at 18.00 o'clock and the house keeping was just cleaning the room. In the Restaurant the Service was overcharged and it took 3,5 hours for a 4-course menu (we had to wait 1 hour before serving the first Course). Collapse

The spa apart from that this is the most disappointing five star hotel I have stayed in Europe in the last thirty years. Poorly managed and very very poor service 1. Restaraunt - took two hours to deliver starter. Further one hour for main course. Hot food at breakfast if you come in 15 minutes after start is tepid. There is a good selection of food at breakfast but again poorly delivered. One menu in English, none in German or French - only Dutch - astounding for an "international" five star hotel. 2. Room - hairdryer was broken. Room wasnt serviced at all on Saturday. Reception informed of both - did nothing but deliver some towels 3. Billing - no ideal of what you had booked or reserved or what you should pay. 4. Car park by hotel is generally full as are their other car parks - nearest parking is schwarz pad beach car park ten minutes away by foot 5.This hotel has changed management in the last year. It is located direct on beach and should be a gem. It is not. The mostly young staff try hard but the hotel in my personal opinion is poorly managed, lead and directed. It is very very poor value for money. 6. The saving gem was one night manager who tried to help - customer services response was "What can we do" - literally that was response. 7. This is the worst rating I have given of any hotel I have visited. This hotel is a beautiful building but the service provided is inefficient, poor and does not provide a good cost versus quality return - avoid at all costs Collapse
How embarrising. How dirty. How disappointing.

In my youth this hotel was the Grandeur of The Hague. A stunning building with immaculate service for a truly royal stay!. Thats way back then. I live on the other side of the Netherlands and had to be nearby for a party. So I decided to stay for 2 nights in this hotel as location was perfect and I never stayed there before. I booked and afterwards looked into Tripadvisor reviews. I got worried. I called them and explained my worries (about dirty rooms mainly). They assured me not to worry it was all improved and fine and I wouldnot have any problems. I believed it, especally since I made the effort to call and mention my worrys. Well, I was wrong. And my worries were justified. Now this story may be a bit long and it would be almost a slapstick but its with regret I write it almost, as I am Dutch and would rather write a proud and excellent review about this Grand Old lady. Unfortunately I can't. I booked an executive room, wich is supposed to be their best room. I asked for seaview and chose this room as I love rooms with a balcony. I arrived and was appointed a room on the top floor. I walked in the room and thought it was small. I opened the (torn) curtains and was in shock. This balcony was the dirtiest I had ever seen. Please see attacked photos! Trying to open the balcony doors I had to 'struggle' myself through big spiderwebs. I dont think it was cleaned for days, if not weeks. The balcony was dirty and full with sigarettes. I wanted to go to the toilet and lifted the cover and noticed pubic hair on the seat. HOW DISGUSTING. I took my suitcase and walked down and reported at the front desk. I complained to the man there. Next to him was a young woman who was lauging in my face when I complained. I cant believe how patronising I was treated by these young members of staff. Later I was told to save money they hire students from the Hotelschool. Clearly they have a lot to learn. They told me to sit down and wait for a manager. A nice man came and appologised and said they would prepare another room and make sure it was clean. I trusted this would be ok and waited. They offered me coffee. Since i was hungry I went to the restaurant and ordered a salad and the free coffee. I waited. and waited. And eventually the salad came. "there is bread to go with that but thats still in the oven so it comes later" the waiter said. I said i'd wait but also wondered where my coffee was and why I had my salad before my coffee.. Yes yes that was coming also. about 10 mins later finally my coffee came. My salad was almost finished and Iasked when the bread was due. "Oh yeah...sorry about that we gave it to somebody else so now we have to bake some more." SERIOUSLY ???? Good thing about this is the manager signed for the salad as well so this little lunch costed me nothing. Then he handed me the key to my new clean room. I was hoping this would all turn out finr in the end.... NOT! Entering the room I immediately noticed it was even smaller. And it had 'wallview" and the only way to see the sea was to stand on the balcony. However the door to the balcony didnot open. Being upset and thirsty I wanted to drink some but the glass had lipstick staines of the previous user on it. I opened the bed. There was a big lumpy towel under the very thin and see-thru bottomsheet....i thought the roomlady forgot to remove a towel or so so i pulled it out....only to find a big and rather fresh BLOODSTAIN on the matrass. It almost made me puke. I grabbed my bags and walked out again. For the last time. I told them at the desk i was leaving immediately and walked out. I called another hotel wich I know would be good but was just located far away. But I booked it anyways and used taxis. Its unforgivable for a 5* hotel to give a guest such a dirty room in the first place. But after complaing (totally justified, im not THAT picky) offering that same guest a DOWNGRADED room with a disgustingly dirty matrass and dirty glasses is SO NOT GOOD. It says all about the current management and standards of this hotel. And really, I would have loved to brag about this beautifull hotel but unfortunately its just the looks of it that are ok To underline my statements about not caring about the guests I should tell you about the emails I got. First I got an email (a few hours after I already left the hotel) stating "welcome to the hotel, hope you checked in allright and if there is anything I need please contact us".....HAHAHAHAHA Then on the day I would have left I got an email saying "we hope you liked it and please leave a review on Tripadvisor. WELL...HERE IT IS! ENJOY! Then the same day an email from the reservations manager appologising for the unfortunate events happening on saturday 19th (it was in fact the 18th, so far for attention to detail) and offering me an complimentary stay for 1 night to prove they can offer a true 5* service. To be honest they had that chance already and failed. Obviously accepting that offer would make me feel very bad about still writing this review. Thats why they offer it. So I dont accept it. I dont want to stay there. And I strongly recomment you don't either. Collapse

I and my husband were in Kurhaus few years ago und we were very impressed about the hotel. The hotel is incredible, because of location, architecture und history-impression. Thats why we came again. Und we were this time disappointed. Fantastic bar in main hall was closed (before it was amazing sit there, drink something and listen the piano), there no more breakfast in main hall, only in restaurant… Life in the hotel moved from its heart to business… And breakfast…mas product and very narrow space…shame for this niveau. Before it was may be not a great, but very special, with charm and in main hall. Rooms are gut, there is nothing special to complain for old hotel, personal are friendly, reception is super, car-service is super. Unfortunately with Amrath owner the hotel lose a heart, and for this heart we were driving there.. Collapse
Poor and rude service, uncompensated.

We booked for a short getaway to unwind from our hectic lives. But it was an overall disappointment. 1.Bad front desk service staff pretty much saying we're stupid and didn't believe us. (even after showing proof of the room we booked) We booked for a double bed online, not a twin bed. We even noted specifically as an reminder that we booked for a double bed. Everyone whom works in hospitality knows the difference of a twin and double bed. And we expected the 5 star hotel staff to do so too. Unfortunately, upon check in, they gave us a twin bed instead. We then told the staff they made a mistake, which to then they started preaching to us, that the double bed is considered a twin bed. After showing our online booking option which clearly stated 1x extra-large double bed. They said sorry, this is what we are offering you. PS: I even noticed the male receptionist with glasses did not even say good night to us or have a nice stay when we disappointedly went back up. 2. 5 star hotel but you CANNOT use our swimming pool or wellness facilities. (Was not stated on their website or elsewhere) Then since it was supposed to be a relaxing getaway for me and my partner, we wanted to obviously use the 5 star hotels ''facilities'', sauna and swimming pool. But upon check in they were like, sorry you can't use the facilities due to circumstances... Very disappointed they did NOT mention this online! Why are we paying you well over a hundred a night if you cannot even provide us with a) the bed we booked. b) the facilities we wanted to use c) polite service. Being the so called 5 star hotel it is, we hoped for the 5 star facilities. But not only were we disappointed by the staff's service, there was no compensation whatsoever. But to end the note on a positive note, we did order some food (from thuisbezorgd.nl) and the bell boy was kind enough to bring up the food to us? (or is that what a bell boy of a 5 star hotel is supposed to do?) *I must note during our stay we did not make a huge fuss of it, since the staff said what they had to say. And we were tired arriving in the evening, and wanted to enjoy our time together instead of putting energy in complaining to them. Hence, this review to warn everyone. Collapse
