This was my first time in Poland and we had two nice days. The Granary hotel is well positioned close to the historical center and we enjoyed walking around main squares. Wroclaw is a hidden jewel and worth discovering! Hotel itself has a little bit hidden entrance, own parking has to be paid separately. Rooms are well designed, spacious and decently furnished. I wouldn't think it is 5 star hotel if you would bring me there blindfolded, someone might call it understated luxury. For me personally it was too understated. Bed was very comfortable, but some things felt tired and in need of updating. Overall, not too bad for couple of nights. Service was caring and friendly, room price was very good. Collapse

We went for dinner at the restaurant in The Granary. The setting could be done a lot more cozy and there are lots of tiny things one would not find at a top restaurant starting with a running TV to cutlery cleaning waiters near by. BUT: the food was absolutely amazing. Presented exquisitely. Tickling the taste buds. A joy for the eyes, the nose, the taste buds and the belly. Highly recommend dining there! Collapse

It's always a delight to visit Wroclaw!, which is one of the (still) somehow hidden jewels, embodying the best Europe has to offer: eight centuries of history represented by outstandingly restored architecture, early romanesque happily co-existing with the finest modern projects, such as the new philharmonic hall, or the tastefully, luxurius shopping centres with fountains, shark aquarums (yes, really!). The Granary is housed in a beautifullly restored red brick building, just on the edge of old town. The location is perfect: 100meters from the main town area, but perfectly quiet - a rarity in a City with a lively night life, housing 300,000 students. My garden room had a beautiful vaulted ceiling made of red bricks, custom-made light oak furniture and a bathroom with a huge, corner bathtub. The whole hotel is designed along the lines of understated luxury, with simplicity and comfort in the foreground. One may seek in vain the obvious 5* requisits, until closer scrutiny reveals the elegant grain patterns woven into the carpet, the quilt made of camel-wool, anti-allergenic pillows in two firmness grades and some of the thickest bath-towels I've ever used. Indirect light from designer lamps create a cosy, homely atmosphere in the room, but big-city lights in the bathroom, helpful when shaving, or applying make-up. The Granary houses a restaurant (which some call "gourmet") and I make the distinction of calling it "top" restaurant, because one does not necessarily mean the other. For the price of a mediocre bistro meal in Frankfurt you will be treated to the finest, imaginative cuisine, using the best ingredients and a lot of love put into the preparation. My cream of artichokes soup was a poetic blend of tasty smoothness, which made me saviour every spoon. The creamy risotto was topped with a very generous shavings of black truffles. The white chocolate éclair melted in the mouth, it's sweetness perfectly offset by pomelo (like a very mild grapefruit) flavoured with Tonka beans. The restaurant is open until 11p.m. (!) and serves the dishes from the daily menu also in your room (besides the normal room-service menu available 24/7). The breakfast was a sheer delight, with carefully chosen cold cuts, cheeses, salads and various large bowls of cut, fresh fruits, such as kiwis and best quality pineapple. The choice of breads included fresh (real French) baguette and croissants and several other best cuts of bread and fresh poppy-seed rolls. You can choose between porridge, waffles, heavenly pancakes or any kind of eggs (including an awesome rendition of eggs benedict!) - made to order and included in the price. Freshly squeezed juices and one of the best ever cappuccinos round up the truly 5* offering. The waiters were attentive and well trained in table-service. The reception staff efficient, chatty and responsive when asked to (I travelled alone and liked to chat). Overall a good mix of friendly, but polite attention and efficiency all around. However the top marks have to be given to the friendly chamber maid, who found the Microsoft Tablet I've left on my room and had it waiting at the reception for me to pick up later on! Not a big surprise in Poland, where honesty is a normal occurrence - rather a comment on other European countries, with their chronic shortage of it... Word of advice: I personally loved The Granary, but if you're in town for the first time, looking for a true"room with a view" you're better off booking Monopol (opposite the Opera house), but please keep in mind that taking an apartment in the Old Town for a weekend stay will leave you with a little alternative, than going out and celebrating until 3 a.m. yourself, as the parties and/or party goers get quite loud. Another plus point for the Granary for me! P.S. I'm looking forward to staying at The Granary again in February and I can't wait... Collapse

Luxury stay in Wroclaw

I stayed in a premium suite for one night. Very clean and comfortable room with big bathtub. Hotel staff were very polite and helpful. The location is not close to the centre of the city but it is not a problem.
