I traveled with my daughter to Portaventura in September 2017 and stayed at the Gold River Hotel. One of the reasons that led me to choose this Hotel was to verify that the opinion of the customers was quite positive. We were impressed and our opinion is very favorable. As positive aspects: - The scenery and the decorations of the hotel takes us to the western, without a doubt, - The attractions during the day and at night in the hotel square, - The pool, - The cleanliness of the Hotel and the cleanliness of the rooms is quite good, - There are criticisms regarding the staff, however we have no reason to complain about the way we were treated during our stay. Staff were friendly, - The excellent organization to access meals (breakfast and dinner) and the huge space. - The variety of food, themed meals, options for lactose intolerant, vegetarian ... Very good. Full buffet. - Quick to have hot water and good water pressure to shower - Our room had a very quiet air conditioning, - Our room was on a quiet and silent floor, - The proximity to the park entrance (2-3 minute walk) - Hotel Bathroom Hygiene We did not have any waiting time to check in. We arrived at 12 noon and were attended promptly. There were more guests being served by other receivers. There was no line. For the breakfast, we never had to wait. We chose the 8am time. For dinner we also never waited. I've never seen queues during my stay for any meal. Aspects neither positive nor negative, but perhaps relevant to some people: - I traveled with my daughter and stayed in a room with a double bed, although we requested a room with two single beds. When we asked if we could change rooms, we did not see much openness in meeting the request. We preferred to have each one a bed, but I can not say that it bothered us much. Negative or less positive aspects: - Toiletries in the bathroom. As it was a 4 star hotel I did not bring shampoo, shower gel or softener, as these hotels are sure to provide this to guests, but I admit I was disappointed. There was a dispenser on the wall at the foot of the tub that had a 3-in-1 product (it worked for the hair, body and lotion). My hair felt a pity and my skin got dry. Collapse
Excellent Family Hotel despite minor gripes!

Having read reviews of this hotel, myself and family were rather pessimistic about what we would find. I had booked this as a 'family holiday' for myself, partner, daughter, her partner and three boys aged 13, 12 and 15 months. Here are the gripes - nothing major but hotel could do better. As warned in previous posts, the check-in was very long winded. This seems to be down to a) not enough staff b) everything is explained (which is great but adds to the delay) and c) we never saw the information desk open so not only do the staff have to deal with Check-In and Out but also general enquiries from guests. Another gripe was that neither safe worked - not a big problem as we just locked any valuables/cash etc. in our luggage. Gripe no. 3 - no tea or coffee making facilities are provided, usually as standard in a 4* hotel (although there is a fridge) . Now for the good bits - the staff were friendly, helpful and always did their best under the circumstances. The rooms (we booked two) were in the main hotel and were a good size with plenty of storage space. The bathroom was immaculate with plenty of towels which were added to daily. The bed was comfortable and clean linen was provided daily. Considering this was a busy hotel, the noise level was minimal and was never a problem. There are three pools, one of which was very shallow throughout, ideal for my little grandson to paddle about in. There is a 'no inflatable' rule which I suppose is down to 'health and safety' but little ones are allowed swimming aids. I would suggest lilos are used semi-inflated covered in a beach towel on the hard plastic sun loungers!! The restaurant was huge and the food on offer was varied and plentiful - there was a huge choice from the burger and chips to grilled fish and delicious salads - the mini desserts were a big success! The hotel and surrounding areas were immaculate and spotlessly clean. One of the main advantages is the location of the hotel in relation to the Portaventura Park - less than a 5 minute walk to the entrance, just produce the room key and no queues!! Overall, the Gold River Hotel does its best to cater for the whole family, OK it is not perfect but if you want a friendly, family hotel where kids are welcomed and catered for, I would recommend - if you are looking for peace and tranquillity with gourmet food, then perhaps not. The Gold Rivier Hotel is one of the hotels at the Portaventura amusement park in Salou. It offers a nice wild-west theme, which gives it a easy-going vibe. The rooms are spacious and comfortable of a standard 4-star level. The pools are large and there are enough sunbeds. Unfortunately, there are no slides. Breakfast is of good quality. If you want to eat on the terrace, come early and spaces outside are very limited. Collapse

Ive stayed here now 3 times, and its steadily getting tired. But what I didnt like is the way its looked after, staff could be more attentive to people. Q's seemed to be very long for Breakfast, for front desk and for park tickets. This is not acceptable. Like the free tickets and love the pool but. Really needs to be a bit better, and with the exchange rate its now quite expensive for us Brits. Collapse

This was my first stay a Hotel Gold River after much badgering from my boyfriend to stay here because its 'amazing with awesome themeing'. I can't really disagree with him because the hotel genuinely makes you feel like you're in the wild west once you leave the reception building. We bed was comfy and the room set at the perfect temperature for the hot July heat. It's a bit more of a walk to the park than the hotels like Hotel Portaventura but it's worth it for the themeing.
