I was recently at my second wedding in the last few yrs here. Can't believe I forgot how bad the last experience was. An age between courses and when I asked the waitress what was the veggie option, she looked at me like I had two heads. All they give us was potato and veg. Disgraceful. 5* hotel? What a joke. From the minute you drive through the magnificent gates you know that you have arrived at a very special place. Glenlo Abbey was built in 1750 and it is now a 5 star hotel complete with a 9 hole golf course, a driving range, and even a falconer. Ben, the falcon, is amazing! His handler stood behind me, called to Ben, and Ben sailed inches over my head landing on the falconer's arm.Really magical. The public and private spaces are exquisite, lots of room, beautifully decorated, with gorgeous marble bathrooms. A full breakfast is included, as are night time treats with turndown service. Have dinner one night in the Pullman Restaurant, composed of original train cars from the Orient Express. Delicious and beautifully presented. In the afternoon, a pianist plays in the front lounge; a great way to relax with tea or a drink. The staff is warm, friendly, attentive and delightful. They made a beautiful place a warm welcoming respite. Collapse

I called in a favour and booked dinner on the pullman restaraunt. OMG was it such a unique place. Id been to the abbey once before but not on the pullman. Everything from the setting to the food to the service was exceptional. Im a chef myself so am sort of difficult to please. This place plesased both me and my fiancee with a fair bit to spare. The amuse bouche to start all the way through to the desert was nothing short of stunning. I also want to single out the highly educated waitress who served us such a polite and knowledgeable young lady i really could not recommend this place highly enough. Collapse
