Hotel was lovely, room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated. Food was good and there was entertainment every night. Staff were very friendly and helpful and even put us up an extra night free of charge because of the heavy snow.

Stayed here recently with my wife. I had booked the room through the hotel's own website. On check in, I dealt with a man. There were two other women on duty as well. He asked whether I wanted to pay there and then or on checkout, so I choose checkout. Then he said no, you have to pay now. I said I'll pay on checkout like every other hotel, at which point one of the other female check in staff, decided to add her opinion (even though she was in the middle of checking in other people), saying it was standard policy on a lot of hotels. I named off the hotel's I had stayed in Killarney before, all of which don't look for payment until checkout, including the Brehon, which is a sister hotel of this property. This was the point she decided to continue serving her customers! The man then said it was hotel policy. I asked him why this "policy" wasn't written anywhere on their website or on the confirmation email I had received. He said it was, but when asked to point it out he couldn't! Then the other female staff member started talking across me and she was quite loud (also while dealing with customers), so I decided I wasn't going to get any satisfaction from these people and asked the man who I had been dealing with if I could speak to the manager at which point he pointed to the loud woman next to him and said that she was the manager. Well I already knew from her rudeness that it would be a waste of time speaking with her, so I just paid. Then the man serving me undercharged me by a fiver, not sure why possibly due to the fact that he was incompetent! Telling a customer to pay up front (especially after giving them the option to pay on departure), insinuates that they don't trust them and believe their not going to pay at all. Then we went to our room. The hotel looks like it was built in stages as there are different blocks and they are not connected. The walls are paper thin both between the other rooms and especially the corridor. At one point during the night, there were two guys chatting in the corridor and I got out of the bed and turned on the light as I thought they were actually in the room!!! There was a sign in the bathroom saying "Don't think the water", (There is no problem with drinking the water in Killarney - whatever the problem, it's unique to this hotel) yet there are two glasses and no bottled water! We were staying in one of the new refurbished rooms. As you can see from the pictures, everything that looks like wood is plastic, what looks like tiles, is actually wallpaper and the 'marble' is MDF. And what looks like velvet over the bed is plastic. Surprisingly the porcelain is actually porcelain. Had a drink in the bar which was ok. The bar itself seems pretty old with a very limited selection of drinks. And very dark (just the actual bar) for some reason. If you like rude staff and crap furnishings in a paper thin box, then Gleneagle is the place for you. But Killarney is full of hotels. Don't make the same mistake we did, pay a few bob extra and get a better place. Collapse

Arrived at Gleneagles Monday Afternoon having traveled on an Ulsterbus tour from Belfast. The hotel is big with lots of anti rooms with comfy chairs and an open fire where I could have sat all day relaxing. Rooms spacey and everything you will need including an excellent shower. The staff were genuinely friendly and so pleased to help any at every opportunity. They have smiles to die for. Dining was breakfast and evening meal again top quality. There is also additional dining in the bar. We did take advantage of the enormous leisure centre and had the olympic sized pool to ourselves on occasions. Evening entertainment was great craic. Due to the heavy snow the hotel allowed us to stay for an additional day all inclusive and no charge whatsoever. I have never come across such genuine hospitality anywhere before.Thank you Gleneagles. Gleneagles is withdoube a top Hotel which I genuinely recommend as a superb location for short and long term stays. I wish them every success and we look forward to another visit soon. Collapse
