We had originally booked to stay up in Midtown for our first trip to NYC but began to be put off by some of the reviews - large hotel, busy, service not great etc. As a result we went back to our tour operator and that's when we discovered Gild Hall was available as one of their alternate choices. Switching to the Gild Hall is the best decision we could have made. Our experience of the hotel was fantastic from start to finish - our only regret is probably that we made so little use of the hotel, we were up and out early each day and not back until late in the evening. The accommodation itself was great, we opted for a suite and were situated up on the 9th floor and we were blown away by the size of the room. The bed is the most comfortable I've ever experienced in any hotel - we both had wonderful nights' sleeps despite us both being notoriously light sleepers in "strange" beds. There was no traffic noise at all. The bathroom was excellent too. Don't assume (as we did initially) that you need to be in the thick of things by staying up in Midtown. We found getting around to be an absolute breeze - no more than 5 mins walk from the hotel to Fulton Street subway and no more than 15 mins or so on the frequent subway trains and you're up in Times Square. We can't speak for the restaurant, Felice, as we tended to eat out every day but it looked fantastic. I can't recommend the hotel enough. Collapse

My wife and I stayed here on a Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary. The hotel has a small lobby with games (chess, checkers, tic tac toe) and books set out that you can enjoy. There is an Italian restaurant connected to the hotel that looks really nice, although we didn't get a chance to eat there. The room has great modern décor that my wife especially loved. The décor is so modern that you can even see through the bathroom door (just barely blurred). So if you are staying with someone else and like privacy while using the restroom then this may be a bit of a nuisance for you. Otherwise, there was nothing else we had to complain about the entire weekend at this great hotel. The most important thing to me is the bed and it was a very comfortable king size bed. The duvet was the perfect size... I'm picky about that and sometimes they are too thick and hot for me, but the one at Gild Hall is perfect so that we weren't getting too hot during the night. Overall, a fantastic place to stay and great price on the Saturday night that we stayed there as well! Collapse
Surprisingly nice for the area and the price

Gild Hall is a nice boutique-style hotel in the Financial district, down a quiet, unassuming street close to the 9/11 Memorial, Wall Street and a short walk to Tribeca or Battery Park. Rooms are surprisingly big (for New York), decorated in hipster style, quiet and clean. Staff were friendly. The Italian wine bar and restaurant in the lobby is quite good. Collapse

This hotel is well priced for New York if you want to stay in the Financial District. We wanted to stay near family who live near here but otherwise would recommend staying further uptown, with more nightlife etc. That being said, this hotel is great. Trendy, helpful staff, decent room size (for a New York hotel). The welcome champagne was a nice touch too! I would definitely recommend this hotel - or others from the Thompson chain (having stayed at another one of their hotels in Mexico). No complaints at all! Collapse

Only stayed at this hotel due to a cracking deal at the time of booking. Having previously visited New York and stayed near Times Square I was weary of being some distance from the main tourist hub but found this to be no issue. On arrival myself and the girlfriend were given complimentary prosecco (she had mine too!) and as our room wasn't ready were given complimentary drinks vouchers. We had to rush out prior to using them as we had a Mets game to catch (they won!) so used them for more prosecco from reception on our return. The hotel is 20 minutes by subway from Times Square - close enough to be an easy commute on the 2/3 trains but far enough to get away from the hustle and bustle and annoying street vendors. In fact this hotel was more ideal for the Brooklyn Bridge, World Trade Centre, Statue of Liberty and other attractions at the south end of Manhattan. The room we booked was massive for New York standards with separate living and bed room, large walk in showers and his'n'hers sinks. The kitchenette was basic but usable. The room has it's quirks - there is no minibar - but items are left lying around the room with a single price card in the kitchen! The cleaning staff were fantastic - a few mornings we were late heading out and they didn't mind coming back later in the day. They also thoughtfully arranged the girlfriends beauty products on the 'make up' table and provided extra flannels for her. The included breakfast vouchers were only valid up until 11am despite it being available until 2pm on weekends, this wasn't mentioned on the vouchers and therefore our plan for brunch was foiled on the second day but subsequent mornings were set up with a good American breakfast of sesame seed bread toast, fantastic scrambled egg and bacon. Checkout was just as easy and the concierge/doorman was great in grabbing us a yellow cab cable of taking 2 people + 4 suitcases to LGA - saved us over $50 compared to an Uber/Town Car. Definitely stay again if the price was right - keep an eye out for deals on the booking sites! Collapse
