We were participating in the Dublin 10k road race and this was the preferred hotel for the event. We went to the restaurant for dinner on the Sat evening 12th Aug. There seemed to be a lot of confusion on what menu applied in each section of the restaurant. It seems that there are three dinner menus and each is applicable depending on where you sit in the vast open area. Once seated we had to wait a long time for service and all questions were greeted with a level of fatigue and confusion. This was the case throughout the evening and we dealt with many different staff members none of whom seemed to be communicating well. We waited 20 mins for desert only to have another waiter ask if we would like to see the desert menu!!! Getting out of there after dinner was a nightmare trying to get the tab and pay for the meal. We had a 10% food discount card issued by the hotel and they refused to return it to us. Front desk staff were appalled and issued us a new card. NEVER AGAIN WOULD WE GO THERE or so we thought. Due to heavy rain on Monday 14th Aug we decided to not go out and reluctantly try the restaurant again. This time it was beyond worse due to not near enough staff and a lot of people being very upset. There was overflow out into the hall seating area, menu confusion, anger at not being served and abuse of one waitress by a very angry customer. My wife ordered our wine directly from the bar and brought it to our table. There just wasn't anyone to bring drinks. Once again getting out of there was awful and once again they would not return the discount card. The whole experience is a tragedy because this is an otherwise great hotel. By all means stay there but be sure to take a look at the restaurant before actually taking a seat and having a similar experience. A and B Calgary Canada. Collapse

I stayed at Gibson Hotel two nights for the half Marathon. I had a quite interior room. I liked the cleanliness of the room and the bathroom. The hotel was very close to the start line and just in front of the hotel was the tram stop. what I didn't like was the long waiting line for the breakfast on Sunday morning. when I arrived in the bathroom was a strong smell of disinfectant. I think the room should smell fresh and not of chemicals. no safe in the room, no slippers Collapse

Located in the "new cultural hub" of Dublin, this hotel has a lot to offer. The "hub" is growing, but even so, right now, this is a great hotel. The Luas tram stops right outside the door (nearly) and is an easy ride into the city centre. There's a nice carpark for guests (although it will still cost you a discounted 14 euro/night) attached to the hotel. The hotel is very modern with some great cheeky signs. It has a very welcoming and relaxed atmosphere with very kind staff. Agatha was an absolute joy to speak with! The hotel/ our room was older with some cigarette burns in the curtains and stains on the carpet but overall the room was nice and clean. There were blackout curtains in the room as well. Our bathroom was large with a separate tub. Wifi was available for free, was reliable, and was a decent speed. Laundry service and room service were also available. The room was quiet at night. Shampoo, soap, lotion, etc was available along with a newspaper option for delivery. We upgraded to the sixth floor where we had a lovely-sized balcony and access to the gym and relaxation room. The copper tubs in the relaxation room were lovely to sit in when raining being situated outside and partially covered. The tubs, sauna, steam room and showers were well-kept and clean with cleaning schedule posted in plain site. I would only suggest creating a bit more of a barrier between the tub balcony and the adjoining room balcony for a bit more privacy. Towels and lotion were available. The gym was great and had kettle bells, multiple treadmills, ellipticals, and even two C2 rowers. It was clean with towels, water, and cool wash clothes available. Both the restaurant and bar had very kind and accommodating staff (Simone, Collin, Alise, and the other gentleman whose name, I believe, started with an "M" but I don't remember the rest...I'm sorry! But he was great as well! The hosts were great as well!). The food served was piping hot and very tasty. The breakfast buffet was large and very tasty as well. Of course, there was a large selection of drinks offered. The desserts were excellent! There is one suggestion I have regarding the bar and restaurant. For some reason, the restaurant was closed on our last night there. We, and everyone else, ended up eating in the bar. The bar was horribly understaffed that night. The kitchen seemed able to keep up with all the orders but there simply were not enough servers on the floor to properly attend to everyone. Many guests became irritated and some cancelled their order and walked out. No one could give us a reason why the restaurant had closed that evening but I'd imagine there will be several negative reviews because of it. It was just disappointing to witness as we had such great experiences with both the restaurant and the bar (there are few other places close to the hotel to eat at). On a side note, if looking at his hotel to book for the Dublin Rock and Roll Marathon, this hotel sits right at the start! Excellent location! Overall, we had a great stay at The Gibson and will book our stay here again on our next trip! Collapse

I've stayed at the Gibson a few times for conferences and its always lovely. Rooms are modern, comfortable and stylish. Staff are friendly and efficient. Breakfast is your typical buffet style breakfast.
