This was our first trip to Rome, and must say it was fantastic from start to finish. We had a haste free journey from the moment we arrived at Gatwick airport until we left the airport in Rome. There were plenty of taxis outside the airport all displaying fares on the side of their cabs. The hotel was really nice although could have done with a little refurbishment. The hotel staff were really helpful and keen to please, room was very comfortable and very clean. The hotel was in the heart of the city of Rome and in walking distance of all the attractions we wanted to visit. Loads of restaurants to choose from and catered for all budgets. I would recommend this break to anyone wishing to do it. My only regret was not booking for longer than the 4 nights we had booked. The company SuperBreak are to be commended - could not fault them. I will most certainly be using them again. Collapse

I've read the reviews and all I can say is the people who put negative comments either had a grudge which they cannot get over, got out of bed the wrong side or will only be happy if they're getting top quality for nothing - or they're resided never to be happy. Don't listen or take notice. If you want a hotel that's clean, professional, perfect location for everything and great value for money this is it. The rooms and furniture aren't brand new and things are a little tired, but if they were the price would easily be trebled. It all adds interest to the visit. Staff were pleasant, polite and courteous. Nothing was a problem if you asked them anything. We had a room with a bath - water was nice and hot but took a while to fill - not a problem just give a few minutes more to run. TV was a good size with channels for every age all in Italian but you're in Rome and there's always MTV. Toiletries and tea refilled daily with a safe at no extra cost. Been to Rome several time and have stayed in more luxurious hotels, but for location and value for money the Hotel Genio will be my return city break of choice. Collapse

Much More then I was expecting, as I read a lot of negative reviews prior to visiting. The hotel is very central, the room was cleaned well, breakfast was good, pastries, jam, cereal, bread, scrambled egg, the norm in Italy in general. A little incident for which is why I don't give 5 stars, I was waiting with my toddler in puschair for the lift for some time, the lift stopped and there was the maid with her trolley filled with laundry in, the lift continued its way up,no problem there, I keep waiting for the lift, the maid in the meantime took the stairs back down, the lift never stopped, another few minutes pass, finally the lift opens with the same maid loaded with laundry, no space for me.But she had seen me waiting twice already! Never mind customer first! I called my husband and he came back up by stairs and we both carried the puschair downstairs Collapse

I chose this hotel based on the lovation and the price. The room is very small, but this is the standard in downtown Rome especially for older hotels The hotel is very classic traditional and would need a renovation pretty soon. It has a charm of its own, but feels too old sometimes Staff is kind and helpful at the check in I am not sure i would be back as it looks and feels very old, unless they renovate it. Collapse

Not a 4 star. Staff not that happy/willing to talk to you. Lift is tiny, had to help staff into it with her trolly, as it didn't go in or out without a fight. Lift interior scratched to bits all over. Bannister has been scratched with sharp object from the top floor to bottom. Walls in hallway dirty. Room, Toilet seat & lid don't stay up unless leaning on your back, shelf built in the way of it staying open/up, very difficult for the men. Empty loo roll left all week. Carpet filthy. Bed 2x metal camping type frames put together, not a proper bed, if you sit on the edge it pings up. Sheets didn't fit properly. No mattress protectors. Chipped cup, not changed all week even after use 1st day, had to rinse out in loo and re use it. Dirty room. Breakfast room above, chairs constantly scraping floor from 7am onwards, so no lie in. Doors banging open & shut at 1-2am in the morning keeping you awake. Breakfast poor. Mainly sweet stuff, there were meats & cheese but rolls were sweet, We don't eat sweet things for breakfast. A couple we met said they had egg bacon options in the hotel they were in, not here !The Hotel bar was not open once in the week we were there. Only good thing was it was in a great location. Will not stay here again ever. Collapse

By all means do not reserve "single room" in this hotel. They are as small as a bird case and do not worth the price. I recently reserved a room a single room, which by the way the term can be confusing if you're not Italian, at Hotel Genio via amomabookingcompany--another poor service company I do not recommend, thinking I was reserving a regular room as I'm accustomed to. I arrived at the hotel around 6:00 pm local time. The front desk clerk greeted me, checked me in and gave me the key to my room. I walked up the stairs--no elevator here--found the room and entered. WOW ... I was shocked. My face fell to the floor from disappointment and dismay. A mosquito could not squeeze in. I just could not stay in that horribly small room. I just could bring myself to live in such confines--I would go insane from claustrophobia. With suitcase in hand and carry-on on shoulder, I turned around just as soon as I examined the room and went to the front desk. The front desk attendant was kind, apologetic and compassionate to my predicament. He agreed with me about the size of the room. I requested if I could have a larger room available but it was explained that the hotel was full. I explained to the clerk that it's impossible for me to stay in that tiny room and that I was going to look for another hotel in the immediate vicinity. By now it was getting dark. I left the hotel and went to this lovely and charming restaurant, Ristorante Passetto and asked if I could sit there and use their WIFI to search for a hotel. The owner was very understanding with my situation and allowed me to stay. As I was doing my search, his lovely wife came over to me and said there is a boutique hotel two buildings next to Genio Hotel on Via Guiseppe Zanardelli. Antica Dimora Delle Cinque Lune, is a charming hotel and the rooms are very specious, quaint and romantic. I was lucky because although the hotel was fully booked, there was a cancellation the last minute. Voila! My problem solved. Genio Hotel is rated four star hotel but I rate them 2 star hotel. I contacted amomabookingcompany to request a full refund and I was told that the hotel was charging me a one night's fee for no-show. amomabookingcompany did not try to help me in this situation and I was forced to take the matter up with my bank and dispute the charges. So NO MORE amomabookingcompany and hope for anyone who may had the opportunity to read this review. Hope you can makeout the booking company because: per tripadvisor:- We can't accept reviews that mention one of our competitors. Please rewrite. Collapse
