This was our first trip to Rome, and must say it was fantastic from start to finish. We had a haste free journey from the moment we arrived at Gatwick airport until we left the airport in Rome. There were plenty of taxis outside the airport all displaying fares on the side of their cabs. The hotel was really nice although could have done with a little refurbishment. The hotel staff were really helpful and keen to please, room was very comfortable and very clean. The hotel was in the heart of the city of Rome and in walking distance of all the attractions we wanted to visit. Loads of restaurants to choose from and catered for all budgets. I would recommend this break to anyone wishing to do it. My only regret was not booking for longer than the 4 nights we had booked. The company SuperBreak are to be commended - could not fault them. I will most certainly be using them again. Collapse

Hotel Genio is probably in one of the best possible locations. On our visit, my wife and I were able to walk to all the usual tourist places. Position noisy but wonderful. The staff are very good, really good. The breakfasts on the top floor, with the opportunity of sitting outside with spectacular views, were lovely. The hotel itself was certainly not four star, three at the best, It is an old hotel that needs a great deal of money spent one it. From the rooms themselves, to the extremely noisy air conditioning, to the decoration, to the wonderful wooden staircase that had huge gouges in it. It all needs upgrading. To a bar that is not staffed. To a lift that grates and grinds and breaks down (that happens). Staff marvellous, hotel not so. Collapse
The Terrace Is Nice.

My husband and I stayed at the Genio for two nights 12/13 October. We were unlucky enough to get the room with the broken shower, as has been mentioned in other reviews. The safe was broken as well. A man was sent up to fix both, but it was obvious that neither could be fixed. We were told that they would be fixed in the morning, but after travelling all day we wanted to shower. We were told we had the best room available out of the remaining rooms, but my husband was shown another room and chose to take it. This room had a broken catch on the door and had to remain locked all the time to close it. The shower worked, but drainage was slow and the shower tray soon filled with water, so you had to turn the water off and wait for it to empty before resuming your shower. As mentioned by other travellers, the Wifi is very hit and miss. There are coffee making facilities in the room, but no milk. When my husband asked for some milk, he was told he could take a small jug up with him from breakfast and keep it in the minibar fridge. We chose to buy a small bottle from a supermarket, but unfortunately the coffee and sugar wasn't replenished during our stay. Breakfast was the usual continental you get in most hotels, but if we left our seats to get any food, they were usually taken by other guests, my advice is get there early if you want a relaxing breakfast. The terrace on the sixth floor is very nice, with beautiful views over Rome. The location is excellent for sightseeing. We had a late flight, and were able to keep our luggage at the hotel, and use the amenities while waiting for our taxi. We will be returning to Rome, but not to this hotel. Collapse

Returned last week from our 2nd visit to the Eternal city, staying 6 nights at the Hotel Genio. Agree with other comments on here that the location is what really sells this place. It is within walking distance of all the main attractions and is an excellent base for sightseeing. Our room whilst clean and comfy certainly could do with a little updating, although that said the shower was one of the best ever despite it looking very dated on first appearances! Breakfast is served from 7am but we found that if you went before 8 there was no scrambled eggs (the only hot option as it was) so agree with other comments made on here that a bit more choice on the hot food would be great. Another minor gripe was the lack of full tea;/coffee in the room. No milk was provided and I had to ask for some, even being given a cup by the guy on reception one day. I would expect at the very least for little pots of UHT to be available to guests in a four star hotel. Also we had to boil the kettle on the floor due to the lack of sockets, it was also somewhat alarming that the wiring leading into the TV was connected to an extension lead on the floor and appeared to be in need of some attention. There was no hotel information or indeed information on Rome itself in the room which I felt wasn't up to usual 4 star standard. The Wifi here was also very intermittent and you often had to keep signing in within the space of a few minutes. Seems a shame that there was also what looked to be a bar area downstairs by reception which was no longer in use which we would definitely have taken advantage of after a hard day's sightseeing! The roof terrace was nice but many other hotels in Rome also have this and also offer a bar service so I feel that the hotel is missing a trick here.Overall though the staff were extremely helpful and very friendly and if location is paramount to your stay in Rome. This is a lovely hotel just minutes from Piazza Navona Square and just 7 minutes from the Pantheon. It is also very easy to walk to castle saint Angelo and st peters basilica .Its a short walk to the Trevi Fountain and many other places It has the best roof terrace with views over Rome and over to the Vatican and can be used 24 hours with your own drink. Its a prime position with a prime price which is why you need to look for special deals here its well worth it.The hotel itself could do with some updating in regards to its air conditioning and showers which are not as good as some 3 star hotels i have stayed in but it clean and the staff are lovely. The breakfast has lovely pastries but serves terrible coffee and could serve more hot food and fruit. All that said i would stay here at heartbeat if i got it a the right price again. The hotel is beautiful and you will never tire of the roof terrace views or regret its central location Collapse

We have just got back from 5 days at the Genio Hotel. It is in a superb location within walking distance of most of the well known sights. The room was spotlessly clean. The building and decor is in the Classic style which some people may not like. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Continental breakfast on 6th floor had a choice of cereals, rolls, and cold cuts. We loved the rooftop terrace. We used it for breakfast, lunch and in the evenings. We would love to return soon.
